Running (Beach and Bush) 58:00 [4] 6.0 km (9:40 / km)
First leg of the Anaconda familiarisation weekend, and I discover that I really really hate beach running. Stuck at the back with the sweepers for most of the run, and the on the bush half of the leg got lost with a sweeper and another runner, those little tags on the bushes weren't visible enough. Second half of the leg was much easier than the first half, got a lot of beach training to do.
Paddling 40:00 [3] 5.0 km (8:00 / km)
Because the cut had no water in it the race organisers decided that the mini kayakers were going to stay in the river. Quite windy the entire way up to the river mouth but absolutely hellish on the way back. Balance was never a problem but boy was it a tough paddle. Had to stop a couple of times because the pedals kept falling out of their position as i pushed on them. And the still broken rudder from when peter used it on the Avon Decent didn't help either.
Swimming (Ocean swimming) 20:00 [4] 0.75 km (26:40 / km)
Because the swimmers for the mini and the main anaconda were starting together, rather than doing the exact course that we'll do on the day, we walked part the way down the beach towards the cut, hopped in the water and swam from roughly 750m from our finish point. first time wearing my own wet suit and discover that hair and velcro do not mix. Ripped half my hair out every time i turned to breathe. And had a really crappy pair of goggles so could actually see where i was going the whole time, eventually took them off and did some backstroke. Also got to see a sting ray during the swim, there are some advantages to doing this stuff :-)
Cycling (Mountain bike) 47:00 [3] 11.0 km (4:16 / km)
really disappointed with how i went with this leg. I was tire because it was the last leg of the day, but discovered and short way in that my seat was way too low but peter had tightened the seat so much that i couldn't do much about it. Could not get the power in my legs with the seat so low, so was not very happy. On a funny note came in and discovered only about a half dozen riders for the mini leg had arrived the rest, including my friend Leigh decided it was fun to get lost and do the main 32km course. She managed to fit in the giant hill before she discovered she was going the wrong way.
