I missed any festivities after the race and made almost perfect timing to the aeroport. I missed seeing Clark run as I hustled the 10 minute jog to my vehicle. Next time we ride and hit some good beer and food after.

| Orienteering Meet race 3:31:00 [5] ***** 13.5 km (15:38 / km) +800m 12:03 / km | ||
| Wow what an event. The course started climbing a down hill ski area. Than some complex terrain with some steep stuff. We than headed down the ski hill chased by horseflys the whole way. Into an area where it was lots of trails (xc trails), On the way to 10 I tried to simplfy the rout and run through the streets of a residential area. To the butterfly of more difficult area to a flatter section where there was a rootstock that gave me fits in a flat swampy area. Back up to hill section, over 2 3/4 hours at this point and hot. I maintained and finished somewhat strong. Now to the drive back home ouch!! | ||
Saturday Jun 16 | ||
| Orienteering Meet 1:21:00 [5] ***** 5.4 km (15:00 / km) | ||
| spiked:12/16c | ||
| Middle distance and a pretty poor showing. I lost mega time on 4 of the 16 controls. It was a pretty tough course for me. Lots of green areas and lot of confusinfg trails. | ||
| Orienteering Meet race 17:00 [5] *** 2.3 km (7:23 / km) | ||
| spiked:14/15c | ||
| Nothing like a sprint to get the legs back to working order. I ran in a pair of running shoes. We had seen a number of the simple controls by the lake.First you had to climb a big hill to the campground, than down to the lake area, back up the hill and finish by the lake. Fun and fast.

| Running long 30:37 [5] 4.36 mi (7:01 / mi) | ||
| Leg 18 of the GMR. This was a pretty run as I recieved the handoff at 1:45 AM and ran on a conntry road to Layton ave in Milwaukee. Luckley at this time there was little traffic and plenty of street lights. This road is usually a pretty busy 4 lane road with bussiness lined up side to side the whole way. I started about 1 minute behind another team and could see his red blinkey light most of the run. We turned off and headed east under a major freeway 894 and dropped onto the root river parkway. Some major streets had to be crossed as the parkway continued. There were some lone cars driving on this road and I just closed my eyes if anything got thrown at me beer bottles or eggs etc After this run it on to a church for some noisey rest as this was a major TA for all the teams. I did not sleep but 20-30 minutes tops. At 5:30 am I just got up and started looking for my other team mates. 6:30 our legs began and it was a nice sunny day. | ||
| Running race 58:51 [5] 7.6 mi (7:45 / mi) vdot: 42.5 | ||
| Last leg of the GMR. It is now about 9:30 am. I ran from Anderson Park in Kenosha to the Zion public Library. 95% of this run was on the Kenosha County trail and turned in the Robert Mclory trail when I crossed the IL border. It was flat and farily boring. I could not go any faster than an 8 minute mile no matter how hard I tried. I was also a little wobbly. Our team finished in just under 24 hours. It was a fun experience. At the finish at Montrose harbor in Chicago Jim Gordon handed me a beer and KB and Maricel were there. It was really fun event and I hope I get asked to be a Fossil next year. | ||

| GMR or Great Midwest Relay from Madison to Chicago. 190 miles 36 legs, team of 12.
Fossil Velocity all over 50 and some great runners and new friends. My first leg was on the Glacial Drummond Trail., I was leg 6 of 36. This was all trail, flat and at the pace I was running, percieved sub 7 pace and a chase of the runner ahead of me, with a great kick at the end, not sure of the real length of this leg. This leg started at approxmently 6:50. On to hotel for some rest till we left hotel at 10:00pm to start the next legs 13-18.

| Orienteering Meet race 1:05:37 [5] **** 7 km (9:22 / km) | ||
| spiked:18/20c | ||
| The course was Clark's Iron Butterfly with a Box thrown in. It was pretty clean excet the controls were hung soooo looow. They were hard to spot unless you were on top of them . well that's really a control stand issue. Kevin caught to me a couple of times and when at one control kevin sprinted to the control and went so fast he fell and missed the dobber, I landed on him and held him down so Anna could punch before us. Anna after had some interesting comments about that, and I really did not give it a 2nd thought about it happening, all in good fun and orienteering with Kevin. | ||
