| Running 35:00 [3] 4.0 mi (8:44 / mi) | ||
| welcome heat and humidity, my running hinder partner. Boy does this stuff suck. I guess a person should just bike in this. very slow pace even when I tried to pick it up. | ||

| Running 21:33 [4] 2.8 mi (7:41 / mi) | ||
| This run is a tradition event. I run from the campground to the lake. The kids i take camping relay against me by hoping in and out of the van. It was close this year and hot. | ||
Sunday Jun 22 | ||
| Orienteering Meet race 55:44 [5] **** 5 km (11:09 / km) +75m 10:22 / km | ||
| spiked:9/10c | ||
| Faster than the middle distance day. Good concentration except the 10 minutes I lost on #6 control. I was running well with great confidence so I shot straight and went low on the rockey hill. I could of taken the trail bend and suffered some hill climb to attack the control from a good spot and i didn't. Great weekend except all the bingo controls especailly on the brown course, which was bingo city. | ||
Saturday Jun 21 | ||
| Orienteering Meet race 57:13 [5] ***** 4.3 km (13:18 / km) +80m 12:10 / km | ||
| spiked:5/9c | ||
| Middle distance at Burton Creek. Oh did I not focus right from the beginining. I was not using attachpoints, some of the controls were vague little clearings. Not too many were happy with the courses at Burton Creek. I did have a couple of fast controls,,,, but I did have lots of lost concentration. there were some issues at home that I am not sure if they affected me or not. Clark and i did find a great microbrewery in truckee. | ||
Friday Jun 20 | ||
| Event: Tahoe 3 Day | ||
| Orienteering Meet race 19:44 [5] **** 2.2 km (8:58 / km) +50m 8:03 / km | ||
| spiked:11/13c | ||
| Northstar Sprint.
What a nice day and passing a bike race on way to meet was way cool. This was up the ski hill about 1k And it worked its way around down the hill to the village. I really botched #3 when I hit the downhill ski trail and I never saw the open yellow area, so I drifted downhill oops. After that 90+ second error I just made mini mistakes and used this as a warmup for the weekend, not a great start.
Wednesday Jun 18 | ||
| Running 32:00 [3] 4.0 mi (7:59 / mi) | ||
| I needed to run and to save gas, ran down the`road instead of Parkside's trail. I had low turnover on the 2 mile tempo run back. Oh well | ||
| C • Fin 5 11 | ||
| Cross Biking Rd/Trail 3:10:00 [3] 45.0 mi (4:12 / mi) | ||
| I rode to get a massage for sicata and get adjusted by chriopactor. Both were`good as the usual chrio dude was not there, and I always better adjustment when he is not there and he has some hot replacement :)
It was a good day till the wind shifted in my face.
Tuesday Jun 17 | ||
| Road Riding 1:20:00 [3] 20.2 mi (3:58 / mi) | ||
| Great day for a ride, just a bit of wind but not bad. usual 20 loop. | ||
Saturday Jun 14 | ||
| Running race 1:52:56 [5] 25 km (4:31 / km) vdot: 48.3 | ||
| 25K Trail Run Run for Youth in Marquette Mi. This trail run was on the Nokie Ski trail and was the actual 1/2 race that I never do i do the full 50 K.
The weather was perfect and only about 30 people ran this. My tenant who is on Northern's ski team took off at the start and was never seen till the end. he won the race. How is that Landlord and tenant lined up together at the start of a trail run and we both finish in the top ten. :) I am really sore after and today. Lots of downhills that hurt the legs lots of up hill to slow the pace. I was in a cool pack that I ended up taking most of them.
| C • Great Race 3 | ||
Friday Jun 13 | ||
| Road Riding 50:00 [3] 10.0 mi (4:59 / mi) | ||
| Ride from Twoheys to see roof job and than around Presque Isle. Road ride and just try to stay loose for tomorow. | ||
Thursday Jun 12 | ||
| Mt. Biking 1:35:00 [5] 15.0 mi (6:19 / mi) | ||
| Marquette, MI Some of the best Mt. Bike anywhere.
From Twhohey's house to the south Marquette Nokie trails. Excellent stuff after an 8 minute hill climb on Benson Grade. Mike seems to know way more trails than are on the maps and really knows how to makea ride flow. The trails are just a blast and tough too.
Wednesday Jun 11 | ||
| Running 1:01:00 [2] 5.0 mi (12:12 / mi) | ||
| Run from Towheys house to the Nokie trail and back. I felt real slow and could not get moving.
I ran to the old spot where we use to smelt fish in college. It brought back some old memories. Like the time I took a date there and we were somewhat drunk ,and smelt fishing .and it is said you must bite the head off the first smelt you catch for a good harvest. I think that was the last date I had with her.
Monday Jun 9 | ||
| Mt. Biking 1:00:00 [5] 10.0 mi (6:00 / mi) | ||
| Marquette MI, I thought we would go out for an easy ride around presque isle. No Twohey had decided to to up and over Mt Marquette from Lake level. This was one hell fo a climb, 13 minutes straight up in granny. After a 5 minute view from the top and a rest, we headed down and hit some really nice technical trails that were a blast.. So much for an easy day. | ||
| C • MTB on a real mountain? 3 | ||
Sunday Jun 8 | ||
| Orienteering Meet race 21:52 [4] *** 2.3 km (9:30 / km) | ||
| spiked:6/8c | ||
| First sprint at Poplar Creek. After some decent sleep i am still sore and sloe. The humidity was bad and the grass waist high and wet. I did get there early to get out early. The controls were low so when I did get to the first one and could not see it i wondered around a bit. Nice courses with a riveer crossing. I forgot my O shoes and ran in a pari of old racing flats.
I guess I was around 6th place.
| Orienteering Meet race 22:56 [5] *** 2.4 km (9:33 / km) | ||
| spiked:9/10c | ||
| Srint 2 and I felt much better. One big mistak on no.3 as I went straight to a masrh and saw a control 50 meters to the south ooops not mine. After the thr right control, I took the trail to 4 and 6 to avoid marshs and high grass. Same type of placement.I should of gone right to the bike O after the first sprint,. | ||
| Orienteering Meet race 21:58 [5] *** 3.5 mi (6:16 / mi) | ||
| spiked:7/8c | ||
| Bike O, this looked to be a real fun bike and I started out fast and feeling great. After the 2nd control bad weather looked to be coming with lightening. There were lots of open areas and when the rain poured down, my glasses were real wet and my map looking soggy. The course looped back to the start so I bagged it just as more lightening was all around.
The stormed stopped quickly and Michael Collins said another storm was going to be there in 15 minutes. Others did go out in the storm, I am not sure that was a good idea.
Saturday Jun 7 | ||
| Running race 50:34 [5] 6.49 mi (7:46 / mi) vdot: 41.7 | ||
| Leg 2 of the Madison to Chitown relay. This run began about 1:00am. This was leg 18 and this was run on all city type of streets. Not my favorite type of run (all concrete) but I believe the race organizers tried to keep a lot of the night stuff on roads. This route changed from last year as I did not run through this dark area where cars would drive through at 2 in the morning. That is scary. Not running in the dark. Anyway there was no one to pass so i did not have any competitive drive in the run. After this leg we also had 4 hour to try to rest and get to the next Transition area.
I slept about 1 hour on a wet muggy area in my sleeping bag. I was beat going into my next leg at about 10:00am
| Running race 1:03:51 [5] 7.76 mi (8:14 / mi) vdot: 39.6 | ||
| Leg 3 of the M to C relay. Head wind and lots of heat and humidity. Luckely I ran as early as I did. I saw some ugly stuff with other racers.
I did pass a few people and I worked real hard to be able to hit 8 minute miles. Same as last year. This was a trail run, not much shade either. From WI to IL. I was also real luckey that some guy was handing out water bottles (cold) that really helped me. I also never made it to the finish as I took a train home early before seeing the team finish at Montrose harbor.
Friday Jun 6 | ||
| Running race 40:27 [5] 5.5 mi (7:20 / mi) vdot: 44.1 | ||
| My first leg of the Madison to Chicago 203 mile relay.
I started about 5:20pm and was the 6th leg. This was my same leg as last year. The heat and humidity took some its toll, but the tail/side wind was good. Not much shade either on this taril run on the Glaical-Drumund trail network.
Wednesday Jun 4 | ||
| Running 30:00 [4] 4.0 mi (7:30 / mi) | ||
| My usual down the road 2 miles warmup and try to tempo back in a time...well todays 2 were 14:41. I still seem sore somewhat and still a little tired from all my hard landscape/garden type work. | ||
| C • you need to log that 5 | ||
| Road Riding 45:00 [3] 10.6 mi (4:14 / mi) | ||
| Easy ride with tired legs on the 10 mile loop from home. | ||
Monday Jun 2 | ||
| Cross Biking Rd/Trail 1:24:00 [4] 21.6 mi (3:53 / mi) | ||
| Road ride and some new trail to work for the last time?????????
Nice addition to the forest preserve area of Lake county
| Cross Biking Rd/Trail 1:28:00 [3] 20.6 mi (4:15 / mi) | ||
| Ride back home and I had a little south wind. Nice, but as my last official day as a full time PE Teacher it was sort of sad. But I did get a standing ovation today that felt really good. Not sure if i ever had one before.
It was 27 years of teaching PE at Allendale school and I can only guess in August if it really sets in that I don't go in anymore. I hope I can get out for a number of trips that i would not take in the fall, that I couldnt or would not take because of school. Only time will tell........
| C • Wow! Congrats!? 7 | ||
Sunday Jun 1 | ||
| Running race 20:16 [5] 5 km (4:03 / km) vdot: 49.0 | ||
| Run For The Roses 5K on the CARA Circuit. I felt sort of shabby from fridays drinking affair. I felt not too bad at the start and ran the 2nd and 3rd miles in both 6:41. I did pick up 9 cara points, but my calf muscle was sore, so i need to get on my bike for a while and ride it out. | ||
| C • Nice 5k PR 1 | ||
| Road Riding 2:18:00 [3] 33.3 mi (4:09 / mi) | ||
| Post 5k run and I needed some LSD on the bike. It felt good and was a nice day except windy. | ||
