Thursday Aug 30

Road Riding 1:10:00 [4] 20.0 mi (3:29 / mi)
I thought I was going to push the pace and started out strong on 20 mile loop, only to have the wind play games with my pace and just settle into a normal ride of 17.6 MPH

Wednesday Aug 29

Note
Today my pet problems have gotten worse. Critter is doing excellent after her 2nd surgery last week. Now the bad news. My little dog Louie has been having some problems ever since coming back from CO. He has been up at night whinning some and doing some vomiting. At times his stomach seems to be making loud noises. I took him yesterday for the vet to look at since I was taking Critter to get her drain out. The vet did some blood work and took some X-rays and said his spleen didn't look good. His red blood cell was low also. He stayed overnight and was going for an ultra sound today. The results was to remove the spleen, however his stomach was full of cancer and my decision was to put him down while he was out instead of sewing him up to say goodbye. Sad day. Good bye Louie 13 years of good times and now it time to visit Spikie.

Mt. Biking 1:18:00 [3] 17.6 mi (4:25 / mi)
I had this planned and do feel that I needed to drain off some energy and sadness with a trail ride after work at Grant Forest preserve. All lime stone trail, except for the short road ride from work/school.

Tuesday Aug 28

Running intervals 1:00:00 [5] 3.5 mi (17:08 / mi)
Hot, HUMID and 5 X 800 meter repeats. I did have a partner for 3 of them and than he was done. 2:58, 3:00, 2:57, 2:58, and 3:05. Did I mention HUMID. All day long for me with no relief all day. Cool down walk 1 mile.
C • Nice... 3

Sunday Aug 26

Road Riding 3:02:00 [3] 47.6 mi (3:50 / mi)
A great day weather wise and actually a different route with Bike Don.
Legs were somewhat tired from yesterday, but we did some pickup sprints in this ride.

Saturday Aug 25

Road Riding 2:15:00 [3] 33.0 mi (4:06 / mi)
Acutally 2 rides, first one being 11 miles to pick up a car from the train station in Racine on my cross bike and the second 23 miles on my road bike.
Orienteering Meet race 43:46 [5] *** 5.4 km (8:06 / km)
spiked:14/15c
CAOC annual night O at Veterans Acres Park. Lots of bugs and higher than normal water everywhere in the state. The course seems to have much more trail running than normal, with some route choices. My only bobble was on No.4 where I overshot the control since I did not see the first trail. Also I was somewhat turned around on a minor trail on way to No. 7 so i decided to do an out and back from No.8 control. Lots of the small trails were hard to see, so use of all the bigger trails was wise.
Great time and a nice turnout. I was only 2 seconds unoffically back of Maricel, but 16 seconds offically. I stopped in Richmond for the blues and bike fest, had 2 beers fast and heard one song.
C • 8 minute km's...at night!!! 2

Thursday Aug 23

Running tempo 30:00 [4] 4.0 mi (7:30 / mi)
Hard to get out for workout due to weather, so quick 4 mile road run with of course tempo 2 mile back in 14:16 into the wind.

Wednesday Aug 22

Road Riding tempo 1:00:00 [4] 18.0 mi (3:19 / mi)
ahr:144 max:177
This ride had 6.5 mile tt in 19:25 for a 20.4 MPH ave. The rest was warmup and cool down ride till an ugly storm brewing made me cut it short.

Tuesday Aug 21

Running intervals 1:00:00 [5] 4.5 mi (13:19 / mi)
weight:153lbs
Even though I knew nobody might show up for the 800 repeats I still went and did 6X800 at slow times. It was super humid, but the temps were 70's.
This was the first fall track workout, I was expecting faster times even by my self. 3:10,3:11, 3:10, 3:06, 3:06, and 3:06. I was going to quit at 4 till my 4th one was fastest, so I said if the next one is faster keep going if slower quit. I said nothing about a tie so i went again. I only have to wonder if anyone else showed up what would of been the time difference.

Monday Aug 20

Running 29:37 [4] 4.0 mi (7:24 / mi)
Ok Tried a 2 mile tempo run and could only hit 13:47. See what happens tomorow at the track.
Note
Critter has 2-3 gapping holes in her that need to be sewed up tomorow.

2 of them were from the drain pasta that was taken out sat. The other ???

Any way back in for surgery tomorow and actually except for those holes she is doing fairly well. Not sure if she will go out and meet a vehicle again, but I did put up a Stop sign and need another caution sign to go with it for drivers coming into my driveway.

Sunday Aug 19

Road Riding 1:20:00 [3] 18.0 mi (4:27 / mi)
Well I slacked and got up a little late, when I was done watching the rain and getting my critter set, I was late for the transition close time. So I went back to bed. I did ride over to return my chip 18 miles in the rain. Riding in the rain is no reason ever not ot do a race. I also found out they delayed the start by 40 minutes. So I had plenty of time to get there. So wasted $75 for entry fee, but this is minor to the $$$ spent on my hurt dog.

Friday Aug 17

Road Riding 1:03:52 [4] 20.0 mi (3:11 / mi)
Last tune up for the Tri Sunday. 18.8 mph pace. Felt good and good my dog survived a day home alone.

Thursday Aug 16

Running 30:00 [3] 4.0 mi (7:30 / mi)
Just trying to get out of a funk with my hurt/sick dog. Anyway I lost focus in my tempo 2 mile on the last 1/2 mile of it.
C • Oh no... 7
Road Riding tempo 1:02:25 [4] 20.0 mi (3:06 / mi)
ahr:140 max:159
Late afternoon ride and I felt tired. But motivated to ride fast as there is just 3 more days before I enter my only tri of Int. distance. No swimming yet this year so it should be interesting. I avg 19.2 MPH, still I can't focus and maintain a higher heart rate for an hour. Oh well maybe Sunday with people riding all around and women in tight suits will help the motivation :)

Wednesday Aug 15

Orienteering Meet race 32:55 [4] *** 4 km (8:14 / km)
spiked:15/18c
2 wed night sprints at Miami Woods. Map at 1:7500 scale. First sprint I had a hard time adjusting to the scale and inaccurate map (11 years old).
It toook me 16:56 for 1.8k The 2nd sprint was 2.2 K and untill the 8 th control should of had the fastest time. Fun time and than the rain hit for 10 minutes before picking up controls.

Tuesday Aug 14

Road Riding 1:09:00 [4] 20.0 mi (3:27 / mi)
20 loop in an avgf of 17.5 mph. Felt strong, just can't concentrate that long on a ride.

Sunday Aug 12

Orienteering Meet race 15:59 [5] *** 2.4 km (6:40 / km)
spiked:10/11c
Sprint Relay . Well not really ready to get going after a great dinner and Margerita's last night. Had to clear and check 30 seconds before the start. I did not know there was lots of forking. So my second control was a lone tree, and even though I was heading for the right one, I saw the tree with a control and headed to that one, oops wrong, went to the next one, wrong again, finally the third one was a winnner. The rest was fun fast moving. Now the long drive home. Goodbye Colorado and one long ass drive to WI

Saturday Aug 11

Orienteering Meet race 1:38:00 [5] ***** 9.3 km (10:32 / km) +300m 9:04 / km
spiked:8/10c
US Long O Champs at Salor Park 9000 + feet . Started out pretty poor, and on a 1/15000 map I was about 2-3 hundred meters off before I worked my way towards the control. After that I had some of the fastest splits till No.6. I cut east too much and lost 4-6 minutes finding the control. I should of stayed with the pack but they were moving too slow down the reentrant. I than still had the fastest split on a tough no 8 control that I went direct at, and it was really hilly. Anyway I ended up third overall on green and third in M-50, so a 3rd place medal is not so bad.

Friday Aug 10

Orienteering Meet race 28:51 [5] **** 3.7 km (7:48 / km) +125m 6:40 / km
spiked:9/9c
US Short O champs. Manitou Lake CO. Now I have been at Manitou Lake before, but they had a new map of a new southern section. I started late and heard that lots of mistakes were being made and times looked somewhat slow. I though here I go again. I had to copy clues on a new sheet because they ran out. Thanks to Mark P coming out to pick up his water bottle and I bumed his clue card. Off i went to one of the best runsI have had in a year. Yes, one of those once a year runs where the map looks and runs like it was nothing. Talking to others wondering how they could have problems??? Anyway a First Place in the Short/Middle? O champs.
C • Awesome race. 1

Wednesday Aug 8

Hiking 1:00:00 [3] 5.0 mi (11:59 / mi)
Hiking near Browns Creek with the dogs and Tony. Its great to see the dogs run like dogs should.
C • Night O...up to #7 1
Orienteering Related 58:31 [4] ** 5.0 mi (11:41 / mi)
spiked:12/12c
Mt. Bike O at PVR in CO. This was a non-competitive event with a score course format. Not much route choice, but my map/compass system works great except I need a new compass for it as the air shakes up real bad.
Orienteering Meet race 1:00:00 [5] *** 5.5 km (10:55 / km)
spiked:10/11c
US Night O champs. I was going along real well untilll No. 7 and an extra 7-10 minutes llost cost. It seem as the rocks were not mapped well and I was way short of the control. After much relocation I found the control. Oh well where is the beer and the next event.
C • OK...US Champion! 1
C • Happy Birthday! 1

Tuesday Aug 7

Mt. Biking 30:00 [3] 3.0 mi (10:00 / mi)
Started to ride from Tony's house to the Midland trail. I crossed the bridge and headed up on some single track about 5 minutes into climbing up my chain broke. So I coasted down and used my bike as a scooter to get back. All of this in the rain.

Monday Aug 6

Road Riding 1:30:00 [3] 21.0 mi (4:17 / mi)
Road ride on Mt Bike in Buena Vista up the road along Ark River. Super fast on way back. Stop at Bongo Billies for coffee and hustle home to beat the rain.
C • Rain? 2

Sunday Aug 5

Orienteering Meet race 54:07 [5] *** 6.6 km (8:12 / km) +155m 7:20 / km
ahr:162 max:182 spiked:12/13c
Day 2,Much better run and only one real mistake when I dropped down too eaely on the way to no.6 and was in the wrong creek system. This cost about 3 min. Also on way to No.9 I took a poor route keeping to the open instead of dropping down into the woods sooner. Overall 5th fasted time on Green 2.
Orienteering Related 18:46 [5] ** 3.3 km (5:41 / km)
ahr:158 max:170 spiked:9/9c
Yellow course Jon and I raced against each other for a sprint workout. It was fun and fast.

Saturday Aug 4

Orienteering Meet race 1:01:00 [5] *** 6.5 km (9:23 / km)
spiked:10/12c
Day 1 of the Rocky MT 1000 day. Peacefull Valley. The area looked nice and lots of open. I had 2 problems that cost 5 min. each and when oothers make zero mistakes, you are out of it. The first one was a control between 2 boulders on a ridge that had lots of boulders. I overshot and had to come back after climbing to high. It was also 1st run at the higher attitude and I seemed slow and tired. The 2nd mistake was near the end and should of been an easy control but I mistaked another rock cliff and went out of my way again.

Friday Aug 3

This was supposed to be the first of 2 workouts. But had to skip the evening sprint to focus on trip to CO in the early am.
