Sunday Aug 31 | ||
| Running race 20:35 [5] 5 km (4:07 / km) vdot: 48.2 | ||
| I was ready for this event for a week or so. $50 first place in all age groups in both the 5K and 10K. It always impresses my Dad when I can actually make some money in a sporting event. Well there were no new people in my age group from last year and all I had to do was beat 21:45.
I probably could of won in the 10k based on the times I saw. I never could do this event before because I was never around on Labor Day Weekend. I also ran into my track star from 10 years ago who placed 12 in the long jump at state. She had her baby with her and she walked the race.
| C • Another good reason for golf... 3 | ||
| C • nice run. pretty good pay f... 6 | ||
| Orienteering Related 2:45:00 [2] ** 8.0 mi (20:37 / mi) | ||
| Out setting the sprint courses for the Big Blue O fest 08. The area should be great for most of the courses. Some high grass to plow through on the western sprint. It did start to get somewhat hot out there, in 2 weeks it will be great. | ||
Saturday Aug 30 | ||
| Road Riding 2:18:00 [3] 33.0 mi (4:11 / mi) | ||
| Nice day and I tried to stay on as quiet roads as possible. I did ride the new paved conector from Pets, pass the Parkside track to the limestone trail of Kenosha, now if only the limestone trail was paved..... or they just made limestone the connector. | ||
Friday Aug 29 | ||
| Running 30:00 [4] 4.0 mi (7:30 / mi) | ||
| Back down the road again for a 2 mile time of 13:47, 6 seconds slower than wed. Need for speed work (track) will begin next week. | ||
| Road Riding 33:00 [3] 7.0 mi (4:43 / mi) | ||
| Test ride a cervelo expensive road bike ($5000) ouch, very responsive but the rear gears were kinda messed up. No buy until I win the lottery. | ||

Tuesday Aug 26 | ||
| Running tempo 30:00 [4] 4.0 mi (7:30 / mi) | ||
| Great Morning for a run. Finally hit a decent tempo on way back. 14:17 for last 2 miles and I had to slow down and talk to a guy who was looking for a store. | ||
Monday Aug 25 | ||
| Road Riding 1:32:00 [3] 22.0 mi (4:11 / mi) | ||
| Nice easy ride to drop off mail at post office, nice weather and I spent all time in middle ring of the triple. Legs still sore after tough weekend. | ||
Sunday Aug 24 | ||
| trail bike ride 4:00:00 [3] 57.5 mi (4:11 / mi) | ||
| Des Plaines Trail from Russel Road to past Lincolnshire 28.5 miles one way. 1:54 to the turn around and 2:06 back, maybe some head winds.
The weather was perfect!! I wanted a long ride but did not to pay $25 for an organized century or did I want to get up that early either. Watching the Olympics late last night was awesome.
Saturday Aug 23 | ||
| Running race 43:16 [5] 10 km (4:20 / km) vdot: 47.4 | ||
| Dekalb 10K, A CARA Circut race. This had loads of comp, and this was my first road race in my new 55-59 age group. 2nd place and about 5th or 6th in my CARA age group. It was so humid you could cut it with a knife, but the temps were only 75 or so. I really felt pretty good for not running 6 miles much. Legs and heel were no problem. | ||
Friday Aug 22 | ||
| Road Riding warm up/down 20:00 [1] 4.0 mi (4:59 / mi) | ||
| Road Riding tempo 19:35 [5] 6.5 mi (3:00 / mi) | ||
| Well it started to rain and on the way home (2 miles) The sun came out and i just wanted a short workout since I have a race 10K tomorow.
I avg 20.1 mph. I think I can go 22 mpg in a week or so.

Tuesday Aug 19 | ||
| trail bike ride 3:38:00 [3] 47.5 mi (4:35 / mi) | ||
| Day 2 of retirement.... Not bored yet :)
I met Dave B to ride an hour with him and I was pretty tired on the way home. I rode my 7.7 FX hybrid. The odometer finally reads right due to getting it higher on th fork so it can read the wireless.

| C • Soupman, what can you tell ... 11 | ||
Monday Aug 18 | ||
| Road Riding tempo 1:06:30 [4] 20.0 mi (3:19 / mi) | ||
| I did not really attempt to go super hard and thoughts about 1 biker killed and one injured in Kenosha county in a hit and run always brings you down and more paranoid about cars. I think I will have to go to more trails and less road. I did avg 18.1 mph. | ||
| C • Relax... 1 | ||
Sunday Aug 17 | ||
| Road Riding 1:15:00 [3] 18.0 mi (4:09 / mi) | ||
| After getting up and more unloading of vehicle, I wanted to get to the award cermony for the Pleasant P Triathlon. I missed it and as I was getting there most people were leaving. | ||

| Sprint at Silver Springs St Park. This was a warm-up for the night O. Had trouble with the first control getting the scale of the map and some close by feature to make sense. | ||
| Road Riding 1:23:00 [2] 15.0 mi (5:31 / mi) | ||
| Slow ride with Gary G, nice Stauton IL roads. Had a long ass drive yesterday and did not feel like driving down to the St Louis O meet. | ||
| Orienteering Meet race 1:01:41 [5] *** 6.8 km (9:04 / km) | ||
| spiked:21/23c | ||
| Night O at Silver Springs St Park, small map, but good night course. I took 2nd to Maricel. Small bobble on 11 and 21 was real trickey. The map seems to have some trail not marked but it was a fine time and I got home at 1:00am | ||
Thursday Aug 14 | ||
| Running 1:10:00 [3] 8.0 mi (8:44 / mi) | ||
| Ok it was really the same run as yesterday but it was up the Midland bike trail not thw Whipple trail as thought. It seemed easier today climbing up. I looked for a different trail down but could not find it so, it was just extra running on top. | ||
| Mt. Biking 2:03:00 [4] 17 km (7:14 / km) | ||
| Leadville CO, with Orlyn and Jim M.
This was real MOUNTAIN BIKING, complete with falls, rocks, views, grunts etc. This was tough most of the spots and some really cool riding on Jim's M trail he developed for 4 miles and than he said others continued the trail. Did I say rocks, yes this is the rockey Mts.
Wednesday Aug 13 | ||
| Running 54:00 [3] 5.0 mi (10:48 / mi) | ||
| I needed a run so I was not sure what or where I was going, so in Beuna Vista i crossed the river and ran the whipple trail in about 12 minutes which I believe is about 1 mile and 800 ft climb.
Nice views. | ||

Sunday Aug 10 | ||
| Orienteering Meet race 57:10 [5] *** 6.5 km (8:48 / km) | ||
| spiked:15/17c | ||
| Day 2 US Champs. I needed a big day to catch up, but the rocks on control 3 messed me up again. I was running around like a chicken with my head cut off trying to make sense of the rocks, probably a bit of panic and no common sense and it made it worse. The rest of the meet went fine except a bit of a drift off to NO. 4. | ||
Saturday Aug 9 | ||
| Orienteering Meet race 55:31 [5] *** 5.8 km (9:34 / km) | ||
| spiked:13/15c | ||
| Day 1 US Champs. Things felt good after yesterday and a nice night sleep and great salmon dinner on the grill. The weather great and off I went first 3 controls short and easy, next one in the rock area a mistake coming down the wrong reentrant. So a small 1-2 minute error, now the the 5th control and it was in the middle of a long line of rocks. It was a bottom of a small cliff, I passed it high and than again. I ran into Glen T who said his control circles were off, the course will be thrown out. I did well after this control with just a slight bobble on 13. I guess I ended up 3rd or 4th. Hopefully the course will be thrown out and tomorow is a new day. | ||
| C • Thrown out? 6 | ||
Friday Aug 8 | ||
| Orienteering Related 22:00 [3] *** 2.5 km (8:48 / km) | ||
| spiked:9/10c | ||
| I decided to use the sprint course as a warmup or workout, not sure.
Well I botched a couple of controls and decided that the green course I will run hard and forget the afternoon training.
| Orienteering Meet race 41:30 [5] *** 5.4 km (7:41 / km) | ||
| spiked:12/13c | ||
| Green course and I was mad that I screwed up the sprint. So I had to ingore all others out there and race myself. It was supposed to be close to the actual US Champ meet. So I went hard like I was racing to see what I could do. Not too bad but I still could of made a couple of better route choices. | ||
Thursday Aug 7 | ||
| Orienteering Meet tempo 1:20:00 [4] *** 6.9 km (11:36 / km) | ||
| spiked:16/18c | ||
| Happy Jack map. Once again i did the red course and did pretty well, just taking my time because my legs are getting tired, so I think I will take it super easy tomorow. | ||

| Orienteering Related 2:00:00 [2] 5.0 mi (24:00 / mi) | ||
| Bisbe Hill and there was training and there was Eric B. course for Juniors. Jon and I did a no compass course and just picked most of the controls. He shadowed me on a long leg over a big hill, and i botched it 100 meters to the right. | ||

| Ride from my house to Senator Bonds house for family stuff.
I rode my hybrid and once again had to adjust the computer to get to record right.
| Road Riding tempo 1:15:00 [5] 22.0 mi (3:24 / mi) | ||
| Well I did not know what I was in store for. The Bond brothers have a 2.5mile criterum loop at P Crossings. Ronnie dropped after 4 loops. Michael and I continued to do 8 ,plus show me this loop where they are going to have a race next weekend.. The 20 hard miles for me on my hybrid were in 67 minutes. or 18.5 MPH avg. My legs had energy cause I had to stand up on the pedals to stay in contact a lot. I thinkmy seat was too low for that HARD OF RIDING. Next time I am bringing my road bike, show them. | ||

| Road Riding 1:25:00 [3] 21.0 mi (4:03 / mi) | ||
| Back to pick up car, this time rode my hybrid bike. They were decent road
untill close to Gurnee. The Mt. bike in the AM had poor air pressure, so it was hard to tell which bike would be faster still.
