| Orienteering Meet race 21:52 [4] *** 2.3 km (9:30 / km) | ||
| spiked:6/8c | ||
| First sprint at Poplar Creek. After some decent sleep i am still sore and sloe. The humidity was bad and the grass waist high and wet. I did get there early to get out early. The controls were low so when I did get to the first one and could not see it i wondered around a bit. Nice courses with a riveer crossing. I forgot my O shoes and ran in a pari of old racing flats.
I guess I was around 6th place.
| Orienteering Meet race 22:56 [5] *** 2.4 km (9:33 / km) | ||
| spiked:9/10c | ||
| Srint 2 and I felt much better. One big mistak on no.3 as I went straight to a masrh and saw a control 50 meters to the south ooops not mine. After the thr right control, I took the trail to 4 and 6 to avoid marshs and high grass. Same type of placement.I should of gone right to the bike O after the first sprint,. | ||
| Orienteering Meet race 21:58 [5] *** 3.5 mi (6:16 / mi) | ||
| spiked:7/8c | ||
| Bike O, this looked to be a real fun bike and I started out fast and feeling great. After the 2nd control bad weather looked to be coming with lightening. There were lots of open areas and when the rain poured down, my glasses were real wet and my map looking soggy. The course looped back to the start so I bagged it just as more lightening was all around.
The stormed stopped quickly and Michael Collins said another storm was going to be there in 15 minutes. Others did go out in the storm, I am not sure that was a good idea.

| Running race 50:34 [5] 6.49 mi (7:46 / mi) vdot: 41.7 | ||
| Leg 2 of the Madison to Chitown relay. This run began about 1:00am. This was leg 18 and this was run on all city type of streets. Not my favorite type of run (all concrete) but I believe the race organizers tried to keep a lot of the night stuff on roads. This route changed from last year as I did not run through this dark area where cars would drive through at 2 in the morning. That is scary. Not running in the dark. Anyway there was no one to pass so i did not have any competitive drive in the run. After this leg we also had 4 hour to try to rest and get to the next Transition area.
I slept about 1 hour on a wet muggy area in my sleeping bag. I was beat going into my next leg at about 10:00am
| Running race 1:03:51 [5] 7.76 mi (8:14 / mi) vdot: 39.6 | ||
| Leg 3 of the M to C relay. Head wind and lots of heat and humidity. Luckely I ran as early as I did. I saw some ugly stuff with other racers.
I did pass a few people and I worked real hard to be able to hit 8 minute miles. Same as last year. This was a trail run, not much shade either. From WI to IL. I was also real luckey that some guy was handing out water bottles (cold) that really helped me. I also never made it to the finish as I took a train home early before seeing the team finish at Montrose harbor.
Friday Jun 6 | ||
| Running race 40:27 [5] 5.5 mi (7:20 / mi) vdot: 44.1 | ||
| My first leg of the Madison to Chicago 203 mile relay.
I started about 5:20pm and was the 6th leg. This was my same leg as last year. The heat and humidity took some its toll, but the tail/side wind was good. Not much shade either on this taril run on the Glaical-Drumund trail network.
Wednesday Jun 4 | ||
| Running 30:00 [4] 4.0 mi (7:30 / mi) | ||
| My usual down the road 2 miles warmup and try to tempo back in a time...well todays 2 were 14:41. I still seem sore somewhat and still a little tired from all my hard landscape/garden type work. | ||
| C • you need to log that 5 | ||
| Road Riding 45:00 [3] 10.6 mi (4:14 / mi) | ||
| Easy ride with tired legs on the 10 mile loop from home. | ||
Monday Jun 2 | ||
| Cross Biking Rd/Trail 1:24:00 [4] 21.6 mi (3:53 / mi) | ||
| Road ride and some new trail to work for the last time?????????
Nice addition to the forest preserve area of Lake county
| Cross Biking Rd/Trail 1:28:00 [3] 20.6 mi (4:15 / mi) | ||
| Ride back home and I had a little south wind. Nice, but as my last official day as a full time PE Teacher it was sort of sad. But I did get a standing ovation today that felt really good. Not sure if i ever had one before.
It was 27 years of teaching PE at Allendale school and I can only guess in August if it really sets in that I don't go in anymore. I hope I can get out for a number of trips that i would not take in the fall, that I couldnt or would not take because of school. Only time will tell........
