Orienteering Meet race 19:23 [5] *** 1.97 km (9:50 / km)
spiked:9/10c

Camp Ripley weekend B meet.

If you missed this event you missed a great one!

First of 3 event today a Sprint. Very nice map and course. I just missed a bit on one control and had to climb a big hill to get there. One step next to a marsh and it sucked you down.
2 PM

Orienteering Meet race 52:21 [5] *** 3.79 km (13:49 / km)
spiked:11/14c

Mid Distance and really cool terrain. I was not too clean on some but after the first control was a lot better till the 2nd to the last where I drifted off to the east.
7 PM

Orienteering Meet race 40:34 [5] *** 3.0 km (13:31 / km)
spiked:7/10c

Night O and a mass score O. I was good till I went off by myself and mis read my timing. I started my watch 2 minutes early so i would not be late. So after 2 controls I thought that I was going slow. I changed plans and missed the 3rd control. I was off by 100 meters OUCH!
I decided to get to the south part of the map for denser controls and better readability. But I was short of controls and 5 minutes to spare. Oh well.

Cross Biking Rd/Trail 1:05:00 [3] 10.5 mi (6:11 / mi)

Nice ride around Kennsington Park west Detroit area. Nice looking O terraine in parts.

Cross Biking Rd/Trail 2:35:00 [3] 33.5 mi (4:38 / mi)

Met an old college buddy for biking on the Clinton River and Painted Creek trails by Rochester Michigan. Nice pace and we were passed by a guy on a single speed and on the way back he was stopped at a light and we all started talking and riding. Interesting that he was from Marquette Michigan...small world and we had some talk about marquette, etc.

Orienteering Meet race 1:23:01 [5] *** 5.6 km (14:49 / km) +195m 12:38 / km
spiked:6/13c

US champs...One of the nicest scenery hikes to a start I have had. Well that was probably the best part of my race. Not really, and I had a nice time in the woods. I guess I did not reallly connect with the map, even though I loved it and will go back in a heartbeat. My problem was too much of the map looked the same and no confidence in navigation. I really had a hard time reading the trails in the rock ledges.
I mean on a 40 second leg I missed and took 5 minutes to no.7
Overall great week of orienteering and ended with a challanging US Champs, that was of a high quality event.

Looking at the results it seems some others either could either get into the map or it just busted them. Better navigators did well. Time to try stronger reading glasses in more complex terraine.
