O-Related (mapping) 30:00 [3]

Updating Adler map with all the junk they've cleared and burned. It's an even better sprint map now. Prepped it for some practice tomorrow too.

Wednesday Apr 28, 2010 #

Bike (mtn) 1:00:00 [3] 13.4 mi (4:29 / mi)

to 31:00 / from 29:00 work.
Hurrying home via roads to get to K's track meet.

Run (path & road) 1:01:30 [3] 6.4 mi (9:37 / mi)
shoes: Mizuno WR 10

Adler Lap.
Tight & sluggish at beginning and then finally loosened-up in the last couple miles.

Tuesday Apr 27, 2010 #

Bike (mtn) 1:10:00 [3] 13.4 mi (5:13 / mi)

to/from work.

Monday Apr 26, 2010 #

Bike (mtn) 1:15:00 [3] 16.0 mi (4:41 / mi)

DRT ride to Grand & back. Path is well marked with extra mileage markers so I knew exactly how far I'd come and gone from IG.
Into the wind tough on the way out but a breeze coming back. Felt decent.

Orienteer 1:00:00 [3] ***** 5.95 km (10:05 / km)
shoes: Icebug MR2 910

Hepcat Training
After good breakfast (waffles) and another jacuzz, we geared-up for morning training session that Maricel set for us. It had a competitive aspect but the storms kinda washed that idea out and we just pushed through it hard to ward off the cold. Such a treat to be further indulged by this epic terrain. Headed quickly over to the shelter to get started on the race ASAP.

Orienteer race 1:07:27 [4] ***** 6.4 km (10:32 / km) +180m 9:14 / km
shoes: Icebug MR2 910

Cat's Meow Race
I went into the weekend out of shape and fully expecting to be cashed by Sunday afternoon. No problem, this was a technical training weekend and I had no race aspirations, but, of course, that all changed when I got my map and the clock ticked down to the start. After last fall, I consider Cat's Meow my "back yard" so it was time to lay down the best race I had left, so I did. I was in control of the map and, even with the tough course, didn't lose much time to mistakes. I just don't have the legs to drag my ass up the steep stuff so my GPS track shows me walking all the uphills and going around depressions that I probably should have blasted through. Regardless, I am pleased with my nav and effort.
Finished it all off with a marvelous grilled steak & chicken dinner at Mary & Charlie's. Such a fitting end to an Awesome Weekend !!

Orienteer 1:05:00 [3] ***** 4.8 km (13:32 / km)
shoes: Montrail Vitesse 712

Cat's Agenda Training
Flagging controls on northern area of Cat's Agenda. My training section was a memory-o so I picked legs that progressively pushed one's memory & navigation ability. Was a great visualization exercise to do even as I was setting; only boomed one control. Cool & rainy but AWESOME !!
1 PM

Orienteer 2:00:00 [3] ***** 9.5 km (12:38 / km)
shoes: Montrail Vitesse 712

Cat's Agenda Training
Svo, Glad, Maricel, Charlie and I all copied the other's training courses onto our map and agreed on the order we would take them and who would pick up the flagging tape as the last one through. It was all choreographed perfectly and we all got in a ton of excellent practice.
I tried to take all of the controls by memory (memorizing a single leg at a time) and discovered that this pushed my skills in unforeseen ways. I resolved to do more as it can make an easy map much more difficult and blow your mind in a place like Cat's.
New ski shelter was an excellent place to strip off the wet layers and warm by the fire. We had the whole place to ourselves until people started to arrive with potluck dishes. Turns out the Greenbush ski club had a meeting there so we got to meet the folks who "built" the place. Great group, a few knew of and were interested in our orienteering. Although they were very polite and willing to share the shelter, we cleared-out as soon as their meeting started.
Motel was spartan but had the two crucial ingredients, hot tub and hot breakfast. After beers in the jacuzz we went to a Sheboygan microbrewery for a few pitchers & pub games. Good fun with good group. Then down the street to Thai restaurant. We were a bit concerned because the place was empty but they came through with some excellent, authentic food. Yum!!

Run (path & road) 1:04:00 [3] 6.4 mi (10:00 / mi)
shoes: Mizuno WR 10

Adler Lap, been a while. Took it easy in advance of the weekend.
Felt pretty good.

Wednesday Apr 21, 2010 #

Bike (mtn) 1:25:00 [3] 15.0 mi (5:40 / mi)

to/from work & to/from track meet.

Tuesday Apr 20, 2010 #

Bike (mtn) 1:35:00 [3] 17.5 mi (5:26 / mi)

Rode to watch Katie's track meet... she won her hurdles event when her close competition bit it hard (and cried hard). So it was a bittersweet victory for her because she was more concerned with her injured teammate.
Then rode the DRT to 22 and back... very nice evening. Felt ok.

Orienteer race 1:12:56 [4] *** 6.75 km (10:48 / km) +100m 10:04 / km
shoes: Icebug MR2 910

CAOC Meet at Palos North
Got to visit the NW part of the map for a change for some nice open woods & complex terrain (and some green crap too). Good course by relative newcomer Chris G.
Run was was about as expected... technically sound but physically weak. A real treat to be out again. I feel inspired to get back in shape and I better start soon !!

O-Related (control pickup) 30:00 [2] *** 1.8 km (16:40 / km)
shoes: Icebug MR2 910

Got 4 controls and a bunch of water bottles. Not sure why we went with 12oz bottles instead of gallons & cups. It's too much to drink at one stop and no one wants to drink from a half full bottle (but I had to since I ran late and that's all that was left, yuck!!).

Saturday Apr 17, 2010 #

Run (path & road) 55:00 [3] 5.6 mi (9:49 / mi)
shoes: Mizuno WR 10

Ran over to the track to see Joseph's track meet... then on to the EW and another Carmel Lap. I would be getting bored of it but it feels so much better every time that it's a treat.

Friday Apr 16, 2010 #

Bike long (road) 2:20:00 [3] 33.0 mi (4:15 / mi) +200m 4:10 / mi
