Equipment fail day: road flats were the wrong choice (didn't anticipate quite so much sogginess) and lens fell out of my glasses when i tried to clear them, so running blind for 2/3rds of the course.
Not paying attention off the start and almost missed #1, #2 OK then round the road to #3 but slipped over coming out of it so decided i was just going to take it steady - lots more soggy tracks to #6 but navigating ok, then glasses failed in the woods. #7 & #8 ok but missed the short cut to #9 (+10s). Didn't see the better (slightly longer but hard surface) route to #10, then on my arse again on the way to #11, which i spent 4 mins looking for (it was in the wrong place but even so I should've found it quicker :-) ). Bit half-hearted after that - overran the entrance to #13 (+10s) and then #14 (+20s), slow through #15 and almost missed #18 altogether - was heading straight to #19 until the last moment so route was a bit crap. Bimbled round the last loop and missed the shortcut to #25 (+20s)
3rd (with splits around #11 removed) 1.37 behind Ray, 1.15 behind Mark Johnston, just ahead of Jason
