Running race 20:58 [5] 5.0 km (4:12 / km)
shoes: Adidas racers

XC at Stromlo. It was the first time I'd run on the grass track there and it was great! Bit windy but really nice. Thought I might've started a bit hard but managed to push whole way and surprised myself by doing a 5km pb!! Very happy about that! Split at halfway was 10:23 so didn't lose too much on second lap. Really fun

Felt like one the of the slowest runs I've ever done. Didn't really feel terrible or anything, just really flat and even slowed to a walk a couple of times. Probably just tired from orroral and not getting heaps of sleep camping at the weekend.

Easy jog at coast, including 10 mins along beach barefoot. Legs felt ok going up hill but sore running down!

Orroral Valley Classic 20km. Such a beautiful run, definitely my favourite long off-road race. I loved it. I wanted to run a good pace but didn't want to go out too hard, so just went steady for first part along the valley, then a good pace up the big hill and tried to keep a good steady pace out to the turn-around. I was feeling pretty good up the hills so pushed it a bit harder coming back - its only very gentle up hill but pretty steady back to the top of the saddle, then I knew it was mostly downhill and only small hills back, so I just went as hard as I could. At about 1.5km to go I realised the 4th place woman was gaining on me and decided that I wasn't going to let her pass me at that stage of the race so I had to sprint the last km. I was completely stuffed at the end but it was great. Food note for future reference - I think I'll just stick to a banana pre-race though. I had a weetbick and milk as well as a banana, it wasn't too bad but my tummy was feeling a bit funny, and was a bit gurgly after the water during the race. Gel went well at halfway mark though.

Long run with Susie, Annetta, Bronwyn and Jane. Was really nice, ran at a good pace up Majura. Headed back to do 90 mins (didn't want to go much longer before Orroral race).

Running intervals 50:00 [5]

Did Gossan Hill 8 min loop x 2 with no rest, trying to do a steady pace so same time for both laps. Did 15:37 (7:47 split) so was happy with that and felt liked I'd run well. Then jogged back to far end of loop and did 2 x hills to the sign at track junction at top (51 and 50 secs) then 2 x high knees to the big tree at the top of the steep bit (about 1 min each). Was stuffed by the end!

Rode to work and Y and then to orienteering at Goorooyaroo. It was such an awful ride there along northborne and horsepark drive - can't say i enjoyed it one bit!

Running (Black Mtn Run Up) 45:00 [5]

Black Mtn Run up - 16:16. First time I'd done the black mtn run up and it was pretty tough that's for sure! It felt really hot (alhtough i think it was only about 26) and it was hard to keep pushing at the end but was pleased with how I ran. Also ran back to work.

Rode to work - twice! Unfortunately that's required when you forget all your clothes. At least it was a nice morning, although I did end being pretty late.

Running intervals 50:00 [5]

Did pyramid type ints (1, 2, 3, 4, 3, 2, 1 mins with 1 min recovery jog after each, 2 mins after the 4 min int) around Aranda and black mtn. Was great to get out for a run after Jase was away all weekend! :)
Shoes felt awful though - was wearing my asics with my orthotics and they felt too big and worn out, and i'm a bit over running in orthotics anyway. Felt a bit lethargic at start of run which is pretty usual for me running in the arvo but then got into it.

Long run with Susie, Bronwyn and Kate around Aranda and Black Mtn. Was a nice run. I decided today to try a long run without orthotics so ran in my Nike Lunar Glides. It was fine! Absolutely no probs - bunyan not sore and glute just the same or less sore than usual for a long run. Happy with that, will see how I pull up. Am keen to switch to running without them.

Fartlek session except not quite the true sense of fartlek in that I did exactly what Shannon suggested rather than just going with how I feel! (I'm sure if I did that I would probably just end up going pretty slow - maybe I'll try next time!). Was really fun - ran around undulating tracks around Black Mtn and Aranda. Fartlek bit was 33 mins (2 x 4 mins, 8 x 30 secs, 1 x 6', 1 x 2' and 5 x 20" with different rests). Was a bit tired at start but then really warmed up to it.

Intervals at lunch with Susie around Lennox Gardens where there are 200m markings on the bike path. 8 x 400m (first 4 with a 200m float recovery, second 4 on a 2'30'' cycle) then 2 x 30" sprints. Ran hard and felt pretty strong.

Ran around Aranda oval 4 x 4min (90sec jog recovery). Was really nice, and was able to push hard on middle 2 (first is usually a bit slower!). Did the last one barefoot, but the ground is starting to feel a bit hard and I think I prefer just doing a barefoot jog to intervals. Was fun though and enjoyed my run. Love my shoes.

Hill intervals - on a mostly uphill route (was a couple of downhill ints):
4 x 2' (1' float), 4 x 1' (1' jog), 4 x 30" (30" walk), 4 x 15" (15" standing rest). Last few reps were up Black Mtn and were really tough! Nikes were great! I love my new shoes (although glute still a bit sore - resolved to dig out physio exercises to do) and bunyan hurt later in day so probably related to no orthotics. BUt no biggy, still very happy with my shoes :)

Long run with Susie around Black Mtn and Aranda Hill. Went early before it got too hot and it was really nice. Ran the last 15mins at a bit more of a "tempo" speed.
