Very frustrating day. I had been looking forward to going out mountain biking (especially since I'd been looking after sick kids) but my knee seems to be hurting all the time and when I set off for my ride my knee was hurting with every pedal stroke so I turned round and came home after 5 mins. I have no idea why it is seeming so much worse at the moment but anyhoo. Then I thought I'd walk to the pool but that hurt too, so ended up driving to AIS to swim and have a spa. Of course the 50m pool was closed for a swim meet, so had a not-so-fun swim in the 25m pool. Too hot, too crowded and my head hurt from my swimming cap! Humph. Not happy today!

Swam 30 laps. Was actually quite nice swimming with the morning sun streaming in through the windows! Knee not good today though - hurt climbing out of pool and hurt riding home.

Cranked out another 1km in the pool this morning. Shoulders a bit sore from Tuesday but didn't feel too bad once I got going. Felt much less of a novice today because earplug only came out once and I even passed someone.

Note

Went to see Cathy today and she suggested I could try running for 10 mins. I managed 7 mins before my knee hurt so just physio exercises, swimming and a bit of riding for me for another week!

Desperate times calls for desperate measures.... I went swimming! Managed 20 laps with only a couple of stops to fix earplugs. Was actually quite nice going for a swim before work.

Mountain bike ride with Emily and Cathy while she was still up in Canberra, yay! Went over to Bruce Ridge and rode fun tracks. Really fun!

Capital Punishment 50km. Started at arboretum and went through Green Hills and Stromlo. It was really fun, good mix of fire trail and singletrack. It wasn't an epic but was fun, and knee was fine :).

Went for a short jog to try and practice running style that Lex helping with. It was hard to do (had to concentrate whole way!) and of course it will take a while to get used to. The big bummer was that my knee hurt the whole time and I've decided I'm going to bail on the marathon. I feel really disappointed but I know it's the best thing to do. Have to get my ITB/knee better, then try for another mara later in the year.

Met Lex the running guru today which was great. I went to see him on Cathy's recommendation to see if there was something that I could work on that might help with my ITB. I know I have a pretty bad running style and was sure that there would be many things I could improve and it seems the main problem is I rotate a lot and swing my left arm around! Got a couple of tips and seemed to be able to run a lot better (on the short run-throughs) so now I just have to work on that and see how I go.... ! It was really good to understand a few things about running technique so I'll practice and hopefully it will take pressure off my knee.

Road ride this morning up Mt Stromlo and back. It was pretty spectacular as I got to the top of Stromlo just as the sun was rising, then on the way back I rode past all the balloons taking off from Stromlo forest park (not sure why they were there, but anyhoo!).

Intervals on the oval - was planning to do 20 x 30" (30" jog) but knee got sore pretty quick and I quit after 15. Jogged home slowly :(

Mountain bike ride in the blue mtns. Was such a scenic fun ride from Katoomba to Narrow Neck and back then out to Leura and Mt Hay and back. Really enjoyed it! (except for when I saw a snake). Knee was fine. Pretty hilly ride and really fun.

Pretty slow run around cliff tops walk at Katoomba. Knee started hurting at last 5 mins but otherwise a very nice run and good to get out.

5 x 1km (90" standing recovery) around Gossan Hill. Longer warm up than planned as had to change route choice based on large barking dogs with no owner! Was just planning to do as much as knee could cope with and it just started hurting during last int.

Stupid idea to go for run as knew I shouldn't really, and annoyingly knee hurt most of the way. Ran on bike path through bruce ridge, clunies ross st and home up bike path around aranda hill.

Note

Went to physio today - have overdone running after cortisone and knee is sore and back to square 1... and now under instructions to only run if not sore.

10 x 500m (1' standing recovery) on bike path around Black mtn peninsula. Felt good and pushed hard, knee was good after being sore yesterday - was thinking it wouldn't be good. Just a bit sore by the end. Really enjoyed it.

Women and Girls fun run at stage 88. Felt really good and could push hard the whole way - only really felt like a bit of a struggle in last km (when it was up hill and i was tired!) so i was really happy. My time was good - first time broke 21 mins for a year and knee didn't hurt so it was great!

Long run after fun run - ran from stage 88 to top of ainslie, then up majura and home through dickson/o'connor/bruce ridge. Knee got a bit sore (possibly worse after the hills) and then the last 25 mins was a real struggle - I was so tired and my legs were starting to cramp! Was very happy to make it home! Knee not great...
