Walk (streets) 59:33 [3] 4.0 mi (14:53 / mi)
shoes: nike lunarglide +3 minty

an easy walk to stretch things out. yesterday i pulled my back slightly, after the running at myrick and some lifting of flower pots at home...gotta take it easy for a bit. sometimes i forget that i had back surgery in 2006 and was basically told i should never even consider running.

Orienteering race 32:20 [4] 2.1 km (15:24 / km)
weight:112.4lbs shoes: Salomon XA Comp 5 GTX

Myrick Relays, where I would have come in 2nd in the Easy Leg but for one huge error on my way to #9: sun glinting in my eyes, map turned around, something happened - one path became another...I'm so mad at myself. I was in the lead by almost 5 minutes before I slipped into the alternate reality.

Still, it was a good lesson - always check the compass against the lines pointing north, even if you're practically hyperventilating. I'm really glad I went today, beautiful day with Pops and Sandy F; thanks to Sandy for the inspiration! She is our inspiration, always. Maybe our team did okay after the handicap points...we'll see.

Orienteering 1:17:03 [3] 3.92 mi (19:39 / mi) +509ft 17:30 / mi
shoes: Salomon XA Comp 5 GTX

ORANGE course from 12/5/10 at Ridley - with Dad's help, marked the circles on an old Ridley map. Since there were no controls, I'm not 100% sure I got every one, but I'm pretty sure I did okay. #2 was the hardest for me - the most off trail (spider web city.) And something funky happened on the way to #7 where I thought I was farther along on the map than I really was. All in all, this was just at the edge of my ability..so I'm just glad I made it! I would have come in 12th according to my time, but in some cases I didn't physically go to the feature off the trail - just identified and moved on. So add another 5 min probably. This was very valuable exercise for me and I'll definitely do it again. Thanks for the idea, hughmac3. My GPS reads that I went 3.92 miles, course was 4.8 km long. Not sure which number I should use here.
