Back Stretches 20:00 [3]

11 AM

Orienteering 55:28 [3] 2.31 mi (24:01 / mi) +190ft 22:16 / mi
shoes: Salomon Speedcross 3

Chilly! Glad I did the Brown course today with the intention of walking; anything else would have been too much what with the amount of time I spent trying not to trip or get poked in the eye.

That said, my carpooling coach (hughmac4) had some good advice for me that stuck with me about always thinking ahead, never stopping, and trying to stay smooth.

I didn't make many mistakes except on the way to 7: I got confused by a trail looking instead like a ditch, and had to circle back just to make sure I was in the right spot. My intuition knew I was right, but I was over-thinking things. Took a safer, slower route choice on the way to 9 choosing trail over woods just because I thought it would be more pleasant to use the trail.

Went slow enough that I knew exactly where I was most of the time by feature, which was helpful since just using compass would have been iffy on a few where you had to change your path so much b/c of the downed trees etc.

I hit my goals of staying smooth, having a relatively pleasant time, and not injuring myself. Check off the first meet of the season!

Great turnout today as far as I could tell. Thanks for the company bro!

After seeing AP splits: interesting. I made 3+min of mistakes! That is very low for me. Something to keep working on!

Walk/Jog 50:46 [3] 4.14 mi (12:16 / mi) +397ft 11:14 / mi

Combination streets and trails (only a little trail.) Mostly 50 paces jog / 50 paces walk. Never looked at my per mile pace the entire time, just did what my body wanted to do, and that felt good! I think that might be my motto for the year. Just do what my body wants to do, don't force myself too much mentally.

Here comes the sun! I might make this a new route. I liked it...a bit more climb than my usual round town route.

A bit of O at Ridley on last years Green Course, bailed early on after I just wasn't enjoying myself - ticks AND briars AND snow at the same time?? Also the footing was very iffy and I wasn't wearing my best shoes for traction. I'm glad I didn't force myself to do it when I wasn't into it. I am excited for Hibernia, though.

But -- this was good in terms of a 'reality check' for me - I need to set my goals really low this season, at least at the beginning. Not only am I really out of shape; I need to be super careful not to fall / re-injure my back. So I'm thinking that I should really just be walking Browns for a little bit.

Something is better than nothing!

PS BRIAR PATCH WAS MAILED OUT TODAY
