National RR.

Was dreading this with the "return to training DOMs", but wanted to get back into the groove with the RRs.

Sadly, after a promising start we had a glitch on leg 3 with Gav missing Connor complete his leg…leaving us right down in the doldrums. I couldn't decide whether to use this as an excuse to run very casually round, so as to allow myself to ease back in to hard running.

But, there was a definite carrot being dangled with Rotherham Harriers B team 7 places ahead. I don't really care about local rivalries, in fact I really like the fact that local clubs keep getting stronger. But its nice to have a local vest to chase.

So I went out conservatively to the top of the hill (my usual RR tactic, then pushed as hard as I could. Initially I looked down to see 4.59 milling and was chuffed to bits that some form from all the hard work had been retained…sadly this pace gradually dwindled and I completed the course at slower than pb HM pace, feeling like I'd raced a 3k. Lungs on fire, but I did catch Rotherham B!

So…bittersweet. Pleased no niggles/injuries gained, but very Domsy, still sore on my left leg (but no worse), also pleased that I feel unfit rather than knackered, a sign that the rest was restful and fitness was lost. But at the same time sad that the hard earned fitness has now left the building.

For the same HR the last time I was one minute quicker..
Interestingly this was off bugger all mileage, cycling and regular 12 x 400 sessions…food for thought
