Easy Running 34:55 [3] 5.14 mi (6:48 / mi)
slept:8.0

Was up most of the night with really bad toothache, so went a little later than normal. Did a lap of Wintersett reservoir nice and easy. Felt ok, but every time I opened my mouth the cold hurt my little tooth.

Leg felt ok but I'm high as a kite on painkillers so that doesn't mean much

Fab Abs and T-shirt arms (Core 3 January week 1) 25:00 [3]

8 PM

Session intervals 20:23 [5] 4.38 mi (4:39 / mi)

Having done 400s last week and also having realised the South Leeds stadium is 25 mins from my house (Don Valley is 50), I decided to mix things up and go train with Leeds city AC.

Session was 1k, 400 off 200 jog and 1 lap jog. After the first rep I realised that the guys I was expecting to be working alongside were having tough sessions and I was isolated bridging the gap between two groups. So, I tried to stay with the lead group for as long as I could and make it hurt. Im starting to realise that it may be this kind of session that I lack as I can't sustain hard fast paces, I just blow up.

I tended to lose contact at about 600m but their times were quite sporadic, between 2.45 and 2.52. But it was a good session for me. Times not earth shattering, considering the recoveries, but the hip did ok which is the main thing

2.59, 69
2.55,67
2.55,67
2.57,,68
2.58, 68

Spent most of the evening wondering how PaulF would cope with their sessions, they start warming up at 7 and we finished at 9, try sleeping after that bad boy!

Easy Running warm up/down 41:45 [3] 5.5 mi (7:35 / mi)

Slightly worried about this toothache its not even touched by a days worth of ibuprofen and paracetamol, so painful, particularly with the cold air. Hope its not something that will require intervention

Accelerun 59:15 [4] 10.0 mi (5:56 / mi)
ahr:146 rhr:36 slept:9.0

Set off easy at relaxed along the TPT at manvers, slowly winding it up from 6.40-6.15 then on the turnaround ran to a heart rate of 158-160.

Despite being disappointed in races, some fitness is coming as that was quicker than the tempo session I did with hatts, with recoveries and felt comfortable, with HR 14 beats lower. Must be patient.

Glut tight

7 5:28.2 158

Legs bums and tums (Strength 2 Feb Week 1) 50:00 [3]

Newly re-jigged strength regime. Done sonto try and optimise recovery. Had to waiver my hard days are hard days philosophy for the next 3 weeks due to work commitments and my dad goin in to
Hosp. But after this month hopefully training will be a little more on my terms
1 PM

Fab Abs and T-shirt arms (Core 1 Feb Week 1) 20:00 [3]

5 PM

Easy Running 32:55 [3] 5.0 mi (6:35 / mi)

Was gonna drive to birmingham tonight and stay for a few nights but got a bit delayed in Sheff and would have got there at 9pm without tea. So sacked it off.

Ran from Gym up queens/abbeydale

Leg fine throughout, a little tight, but has tightened up quite a bit since I got home, which is irritating

At one point, I was miles away, listening to Take That "Shine" when a woman walking with her fella actually stuck her leg out to trip me up. I searched my extensive vocabulary and carefully selected an appropriate response. I think in this situation dropping the "C-bomb" was entirely vindicated. The stupid "cow" I'm glad I was "blunt".

Easy Running long 1:55:33 [3] 16.32 mi (7:05 / mi)
slept:6.0

Headed over to Honley and did a run with Matt Pierson, DAve Turnbull and a few of the Holmfirth younger kids. Decided to do this as they were doing loops to allow the younger kids to stop at 8,10,12 miles Matt was shooting for 16 and Dave 24.

This gave me the option to drop of if I had any probs, I had 18 down but decided to play it by ear. Bum was tight and sore through out but I didn't feel like I was risking anything so did 16. I decided against going on to 18, although I don't the ink it would have been a problem, as we had been out a long time anyway.

The route took in 4 big climbs of about 1 mile each so was a fairly slow run.

Other than my bum the legs felt surprisingly good from yesterday, particularly calves. Had another poo moment, which was unfortunate as this meant that last nights curry burnt my bum for 8 miles

Note

Woke up with radiating leg pain and bad back ache. Debating...
3 PM

Easy Running warm up/down 38:00 [3] 4.75 mi (8:00 / mi)

Laps of the course

Race race 43:37 [5] 8.0 mi (5:27 / mi)

57th. Grrrr. I spent all morning stretching and mob-ing my hip and it felt ok on the warm up but the tight bit was very tight and I'm aware of it all the time. A good result for us to get 6th though I think.

Set off and was just behind Andy and Joe and I felt really good, I thought it was going to be my day. Without trying I ended up in front of them but then started to feel laborious around the start of the second lap, i then became aware of my hip and really lost concentration.

At the start of the second lap I had a word and got back onto a decent pace but my hip got tighter and tighter and i could feel it in my hamstring so i just went as hard as I could trying to catch Ben Ridell, as it stands I didn't get to him and finished a few secs behind Rob.

In all honesty I thought I would have dropped out today before I left, so i'm please I finished and things weren't a catastrophe, would have been nice to have iced it higher up though

Really pleased for Lizzie and the younger kids though!

Easy Running 36:02 [3] 5.12 mi (7:02 / mi)
slept:8.0 weight:150lbs

After rest day, decent massage and lots of stretching, I was surprised and frankly fucked off when I woke up this morning and couldn't straighten my leg. Things had been much improved and were localised to a dull ache in my arse, but this morning the prob was back.

I stretched it out and went to work, stretched again at lunch and it felt ok as I jogged to the car so I met Hilly and Lockwood at New Miller dam in Waki for a plod around the flat lakeside trail. But Hilly brought his bloody dog and didn't want to go near roads so we instead took a hilly, muddy route which aggravated my leg. So i was a grumpy git the whole way round.

I need to stick to my philosophy of running alone so i can run where suits me when I'm having problems. My back is also really sore.

But the cold has gone in record time! Really hoping I can have a decent run tomorrow without the leg flaring up more. I thought things were just coming together, still optimistic, its looking like my dream conditions tomorrow, so looking forward to it, if the leg holds up.

Thursday Jan 26, 2012 #

Note
slept:6.0 weight:153lbs (rest day)

Decided to take advantage of a re - jigged week to get some really deep soft tissue work on my glut last night. It's bloody sore now, hopefully it will help as got three big weeks planned

Cold much better, hopefully backing off has done the trick. Slept poo last night tho

Wednesday Jan 25, 2012 #

Note
slept:9.5

Ive been taking a care free "fuel your training" approach to eating. Eating plenty, but no shit. I just had a cheeky weigh in out of interest- and got a nasty shock! Think I might have to reign it in a bit, can never get the diet right
11 AM

Session intervals 12:00 [5] 2.49 mi (4:49 / mi)

Bit of a wasted trip down to Brum as I missed the session yest. Was good to get away from the house though.

Have re-jigged my week an decided on a small session today, this week is a write off but hopefully if this cold goes I can put a good hard race effort in, to compensate for lack of training

Stopped off at "Conkers" to investigate potential running venues to break up the drive from Brum to Home/Sheff in future.

Verdict: it's ok by u have to go back on yourself a lot to get decent volume in. I was hopin Sherwood pines was closer but it's a bit of a detour.

Found a perfect sized field an did 12x 1 minute off a minute. Was just a case of gettin it done, nothing special. Right hip is a bother again, so annoying

Easy Running warm up/down 50:51 [3] 7.15 mi (7:07 / mi)

Around the trails and canal at Conkers
3 PM

Fab Abs and T-shirt arms (Core 2 Jan Week 4) 25:00 [3]

And basically spent the afternoon stretching, Killing time between second run then massage.

Trigger pointed the hell out of bum
4 PM

Easy Running 31:26 [3] 5.0 mi (6:17 / mi)

If I didnt feel a bit grotty an my hip wasn't a bit site I would say I felt good on this run, I certainly enjoyed it.

Gluts responded well to the earlier TLC but were tight again after. Ran from gym up Queens/abbeydale roaf, boring, flat, but convenient

slept:10.0

Morning run and session binned. Will just do an easy one and maybe a session tomorrow. Dam it
4 PM

Easy Running 1:02:12 [3] 9.36 mi (6:39 / mi)

Spent most of the day sleeping and feeling shit and almost took a rest day, but decided to just get an hour done nice and easy. Feel ok so far afterwards

Damn right leg is still a problem though

Monday Jan 23, 2012 #

Note

Reluctantly, having just touched down in Birmingham Ive decided to bin run number two. Was ummin and arring about how much to taper for northerns, but feeling a bit worse than this morning, soothe decision has been made for me! I don't like missing training, but hopefully I'm being sensible and not a puff.

Shame cos it's a lovely evening here. Gonna make a mega hot curry and sweat it out like a man (korma)
9 AM

Easy Running 59:50 [3] 9.31 mi (6:26 / mi)
slept:9.0

Checked out the opposite direction of the TPT at
manvers until I got to one of those bits where a sign points to the road and u can never quite find it again.

Looking forward to doing a tempo session on the other direction as it's a fab stretch of running.

Wanted to accelerhn but still feelin a bit cack, so today was mainl about de-snotting. No poo today

9 AM

Easy Running 1:30:00 [3] 13.25 mi (6:48 / mi)

Woke up feeling bunged up and grotty and could not be arsed with this wind! Just plodded and got 90 mins in. Don't wanna force it and make this cold worse.

In the most built up area of the run I needed a poo so bad I had to walk. I couldn't get to a field so had to go in a garden and shit in a small bush. It's a fairly rough area so once i got out of the bush I legged it to the nearest trail.

Once on the trail I trod in a massive dog turd. I thought this was fair

Easy Running warm up/down 45:00 [3] 6.0 mi (7:30 / mi)

11 AM

Session intervals 22:30 [5] 4.47 mi (5:02 / mi)
slept:8.0

North of England training squad session at Roundhay.
Great group, nice mix of abilities and great to see the Hallamshire Robs could attend.

Session of 2(6mins/3mins,3x45s/45)/3mins, 6mins
6min efforts @ 10k pace and 45s at 1500
Although the 6mins efforts were much more like 5k pace!

A windy day,but the 45s efforts were done in an ampitheatre/cricket pitch so we were sheltered. Roundhay was a great venue and I really enjoyed the session. I was pleased with my consistency as after the first 6 mins I thought "oh, shit"

6min 1.14 5:15
45s 0.17 4:24
45s 0.18 4:10
45s 0.17 4:24
6min 1.15 5:13
45s 0.17 4:24
45s 0.17 4:24
45s 0.17 4:24
6min 1.15 5:13

Bum got tight but was never an issue. The session was a bit shorter than I would normally do, but thats not necessarily a bad thing. The guys at the sharp end made sure we made up for it any way. Times on long reps don't look amazing but it was a much harder effort, running around 4.44 with wind behind for 3 mins then about 5.50s into the wind!

Be great to fill a car for the next session in Manchester
1 PM

Legs bums and tums 50:00 [3]

I've decides to revert back to my previous philosophy, that hard days should be hard and easy, easy.

This was previously swayed by the logic of others, leading to me doing weights/ circuits on easy days.

I personally can't recover from weights in time for sessions, so from now on my lifting session is either Thursday or saturday (ideally thurs with Friday being a rest day)
3 PM

Easy Running 34:43 [3] 5.15 mi (6:44 / mi)

Bit closer to the session than I would normally like, but was on way home from gym in Leeds and past the place I was planning on running anyway, so figured Id get it done, bloody windy but the route managed to shelter me for most of the run which was fortunate, legs felt good which means they will prob hurt tomorrow!

Cant decide where to run tomorrow, decisions, decisions

Leg feels ok this morning, fingers crossed
Im ready for the rest dauy though

Got all the work done early so headed gym and did some core and foam rolling
5 PM

Easy Running warm up/down 53:10 [3] 7.25 mi (7:20 / mi)

Tescos to hillsborough, plus some of recovery jogging as it was at a decent clip

Incidentally I had another poo related incident afterwards, the last few reps were touch(ing cloth) and go
6 PM

Session tempo 20:00 [5] 3.71 mi (5:23 / mi)
slept:8.5

Session of hills/tempo with Andy T (tempo) and the group for hills.

We made a boo boo with setting off time and would have had too long to stand around so we did a set before everyone arrived, it kind of worked well with timings tho ultimately

Very windy running out, we also nearly got hit by a tram on the way back, but I think we got the effort about right and still managed some decent hills.

Second one actually felt easier and was quicker which is crazy, although the wind had died down

Session hills 13:19 [5] 2.47 mi (5:23 / mi)

1 1:01.9 0.18 5:36
2 1:17.6 0.23 5:36
3 1:06.3 0.20 5:30
1 1:03.1 0.19 5:29
2 1:13.9 0.23 5:28
3 1:01.0 0.19 5:17
1 1:02.6 0.19 5:24
2 1:15.0 0.23 5:24
3 1:03.1 0.20 5:22
1 1:02.8 0.19 5:37
2 1:15.9 0.24 5:20
3 1:01.4 0.20 5:05

Felt better than expected really, and leg held up, (truth will come out in the morning though.) Enjoyed it tonight and a great group in attendance too

Just wanted to say thank you to those who took time to get in touch this week. Really kind of you and greatly appreciated. I feel privelidged to have such good mates! Sorry for bein a mizzo, will hopefully be an air or positivity soon.

Thanks to the lurkers on here too, who I never realised came on!
9 AM

Easy Running 34:10 [3] 5.0 mi (6:50 / mi)
slept:8.0

Decided to check out nearby Nostell Priory a local National trust estate. It looked stunning in the frost and its just like being on the set of a period drama. I stubbled to find any decent routes so just ran in tractor tracks through the fields, will explore further at some point.

I never used to to run when at home, never realised how many cool places there are near my folks' house!

Legs a bit sore from weights but hammy fine, bum a little tight (but I'm just showing off)
5 PM

Fab Abs and T-shirt arms (Core 2) 25:00 [3]

6 PM

Session intervals 30:09 [5] 6.0 mi (5:02 / mi)

Was dreading/really looking forward to this. Everyone running well form the club so was pleased to see Andy C, Tom, Rob et al down at the track.
6 x 1600/60s

First few reps I felt ace and got an immediate confidence boost, however plan was always to just get through this session. Then halfway round rep 3 I needed a poo so bad that I knew I'd have to go (despite having 4 in the hour before the session. I kept nearly jumping out of the rep, but then had to at 1500m.

Unfortunately, even with a token wipe I missed the start of the next rep so I did a 1400m rep, which felt a lot harder than the first three which felt good. Then on the the final rep Lizzy Adams was on my case and ultimately dropped me. This was bittersweet as its great thats she's running well, but I don't wanna be getting beat by no girl...fool.

Im going to lay this down now..if she runs Lizzy will win the Northerns (and i don't mean that in a patronising way just cos she had me in a session)

So.. theres a long way to go, but the hammy felt good so bring it on.

4.59 4.58,4.38 (1500, needed a poo),4.20, (1400), 5.06, 5.08, 57 (an anal 300 to get the miles in)

Leg felt good, the weather and venue were stunning (Manvers boating club and onto TPT) Decided to run easy and not look at pace until 5 miles, then turn round. If leg felt ok then I planned to run fairly steady, again not looking at watch.

7 5:40.0 1.00 5:40

Survived unscathed, leg fine although I would still be scared if I had to run flat out. I am so pleased I am getting to run in this weather its absolutely awesome

Legs bums and tums (January week 2) 1:00:00 [3]

I have now omitted the Romanian Deadlift as I fairly sure it/ and poor technique were contributing if not causing my prob. I have replaced it with two other exercise in the injury prevention regime.
4 PM

Easy Running 40:17 [3] 6.25 mi (6:27 / mi)

On the way back from Sheffield stopped of at the boating lake, ran along the TPT until the sun was fully set then got on the road.

The sunset was majestic. looking forward to training with the lads tomorrow, should everything continue to be ok in the morning

Hammy pretty tight when I woke up, spent an hour warming it with hot water bottle and decided against planned 18 miles. Instead headed to Winterset lake and planned to do a lap easy to see how the leg felt and bin it if any probs. Asit was, I could feel it but it eased as the blood got flowing so I headed of 5 miles out on the trails, back a slightly different way for variety and did 2 laps of the lake at a slightly quicker pace. No deterioration of the leg during but bum a bit tight.

Legs fine other than that post session. A stunning frosty morning! Very busy trails with walkers. This is my favourite running weather, cod with no wind and no majorly dangerous ice.

Session was at Bodington playing fields as part of the “London marathon training squad” initiative. There were approx. 30 people of varying abilities and a good number of girls too, incl Susan Partridge. The group consisted of Leeds AC/Leeds uni guys plus people who travelled incluing a few Holmfirth guys. great to see Tom Edwards

The weather was bloody amazing and I really enjoyed the session. My hammy certainly tightened up but at no point did I feel I should stop. I’m just going to take it one day at a time now and see how I feel each day. I’m certainly going to keep Keiths words in my head and not be scared to just run/do a steady/marathon paced effort if a session feels like a bad idea. But I think it may be ok if I just listen to my body.

I was pleased with the session, I felt strong and the only thing stopping me running harder was caution. The Brownlees were also training at the same time, great to see them operate. They were going to join us but had to start 30 mins earlier so that they could do a 4 hour bike ride after!

Easy Running 40:44 [3] 6.13 mi (6:39 / mi)

Stunning evening timed it so I got the sunset. Headed to Winterset lake and decided just to do laps to watch the sunset. Leg eased up as run went on. Today has been a pleasure, really enjoyed it, just wishj the leg would totally chill now.

Pretty tight afterwards, will see what two days of easy runs does for it.
Struggling to fit core etc. in due to chores at home

Note
(rest day)

I didn't realise Keith Whitelam perused my attack point from time to time. Had I known, I would have cleaned up my language and lessened the poo stories.

So to Keith and anyone else who I respect, admire and generally don't wish to appear foul mouthed and filthy to, I apologise for my potty mouth.

The rest of you can just fuck off ;)

Session tempo 18:50 [5] 3.47 mi (5:26 / mi)

Planned 4 x 11 mins tempo/ 2 mins at 164 HR.
Set off on the planned loop which is 1.75 miles straight. Directly into the wind. Ran out of road so called it 4 x 10 mins
On the turn around I felt a sharp pain in my hamstring and that was it. I couldn't do any more hard running.

I'm so, so frustrated. I'm unfit- I could only manage HM pace running to HR zones for 1 mile with ridiculous wind behind me. I keep succumbing to this hamstring problem. Ive tried total rest, cross training, easy running, strengthening, massage, stretching and it still comes back with no warning.

For various reasons this year has been a total disaster. Im so annoyed with myself for giving up work, its the most stupid decision I ever made. I can't even go away and support Hatts as I've got to stay and listen to my old man shitting himself and moaning all day long. obviously I want to be there for him too but its brining me down even more! So much for pursuing fucking dreams.

Im going to have a little break from attack point for a bit until I've got it sorted or I will just end up using it to moan constantly

Easy Running warm up/down 43:00 [3] 6.0 mi (7:10 / mi)

Managed 3 mile after wards. Leg really tight Its not torn it just balls up so much that running h=any harder feels like its gonna cause it to snap

Its blatantly coming from my back
5 PM

Easy Running 41:39 [3] 6.03 mi (6:54 / mi)

Stunning sunset tonight, just about missed running in it as took old man for a pint post birdwatching. He had two and I had a softy, was half listening to him half thinking “I want to run in that”

Both hammys are now sore, my back is really tight. It is defo coming from there. It didn’t get any worse, it’s the hard running that is a problem. Rest day and massage tomorrow, hopefully that will let me do the session on sat. If not, I’m talking myself up for another rest period

I can confirm the leg pain is back FFS
9 AM

Steady running long 1:25:49 [3] 13.5 mi (6:21 / mi)
slept:7.0

Headed down to Woodbank park from Buds. Decided that once I hit the park I would hit a steady pace which I maintained for the 4 mile out and back section in the park. I then finished with a lap of the golf course outside Buds.

Fel a bit shagged after the steady, particularly on hills. Also, my hip/ hamstring tightened again which is worrying

Had a bit of a lie in this morning as feeling a little jaded for various reasons.

Tried to shakeout very stiff lower back and hamstrings, partly from weights partly from the race. It's been a long time since my legs felt good on a run! Can't wait until it all clicks

Session intervals 26:53 [5] 5.64 mi (4:46 / mi)

Session at metchley, which is everyone at Brum uni's favourite training venue. It is good and even though it is basiacally three rugby ptiches the sessions are never boring. But I personally prefer Raddlebarn or Senneleys.

There was a big group today as the uni were back whihc is great, but at the same time it was confusing as people kept dropping out then jumping back in, so people who were behind me would then be in front, then drop off again- I didnt realise this at first and was really worried that Id popped! As it stands I think I had a good session, consistently bridging the gap between the front group of three and the chase group. I cant seem to up my game on faster reps at the moment but I'm ok at tempo.

Bud doing my head in a bit as he seems to keep forgetting I've had 6weeks out and asking if I need to see a psychologist and asking whether I think I'm over cautious.Bit annoying really. He's not really set any of my training for over 6 months now for one reason or another, I'm hoping he might have alook this time as I look to get back into it. Anyway, I digest..

Session was:
4 small laps (.24) / 40s
2 full laps (.58) / 90
4 half laps (.35) / 70s
2 full laps/ 90
4 small laps/ 40

Times were:
66,66,65,65 (4.40 pace)
2.45, 2.47 (4.43 )
1.38, 1.40, 1.37, 1.40 (4.39)
2.48, 2.49 (4.53)
62, 65, 66, 66 ( 4.40)

I was fairly pleased with the session. But as you can see, it was all very one paced. I know my weakness is speed, but Bud has not got me thinking, is it my speed, or is it my head? I managed a 62 on the first of the lst block of fast ones, maybe I need more bollocks when doing shorter stuff.

I was definately scared of blowing up and wanted to finish the sesison as a priority. Only 3 of us actually did the whole thing in fairness. Maybe next time I'll take a risk i a session and make it hurt a bit more.

Sorry- I know I'm boring :)

After the race yesterday I took my old man for a pint an a pep talk, then headed over to Tom and Michelles for a takeaway. Tom is having a month off the booze so I took us a box of alcohol free becks and we enjoyed a curry. I had 2 alcohol free becks and a lemonade. This morning I got up, went to church...and had a hangover. Ridiculous.

Legs were ok today, both hamstrings a bit tight/sore but just post race soreness-not injury sore.

Just took it easy today, enjoying lovely running conditions, but feeling cack. Did, wha is fast becoming our post church ritual, a lap of the reservoirs. It's close by, pretty and means hatts can't get lost and I can do a minimum of 15 on road or hills without worrying about her.

She goes to Kenya tomorrow and as I mentioned, I'm no longer going. But I've sat down and planned a great months training for myself and will make the most of having just me (and the old bugger) to worry about.

My plans include a week with the Hallamshire posse next week which I'm excited about. If anyone fancies tempo before and after the hills session a week on thursday with me and Tom, come get involved!

Man that hurt. I'll be honest I thought I night have run a little better, but it's a start. It also is in my top 3 runs at the Yorkshires.(23rd) Leg felt pretty much fine throughout, could feel it but never enough to worry.

My chest was quite tight though for some reason which made it blooming rough going, I did the best I could on the day. Fingers crossed the leg is ok.

Was ace to see so many Hallamshire guys today and with that in mind I was pleased to be a team counter as our strength in depth is pretty unrivalled at the moment. Had a real good time with everyone.

Was particularly pleased for RobB who is getting fit quickly and ran well despite some big training recently! But I don't think anyone had a bad run.

It's game on now. I'm determined to make this my year and hit my targets. I'm gonna work majorly hard.
5 PM

Note

The hard work will have to start tomorrow though as I set off on a 5 miler when I got home and my leg felt a bit sore. I argued with myself for a bit and realise I was only really doing the run as I wanted a curry for tea, and that is not angood enough reason to make an injury worse.

I'm gonna have a curry anyway, and try not to worry about it

Easy Running 30:00 [3] 4.25 mi (7:04 / mi)

Isn't this weather lovely! The crazy thing is I'd rather be doin 90mins in it than 30, it takes that long to warm up.

Did a plod with hatts on a nice trail that I found by accident. Did a few strides and a few drills to try and get some flexibility back in my hammys- I spent ages on this last year but with the injury I'm back to square one.

I still have DOMS, particularly in my quads, but touchwood, the injury seems to have settled. I'll be toeing the line for yet another Yorkshires disappointment I'm gonna race it as best I can though!

I'd be lying if I said I enjoyed any part of this run, legs very "DOMSy", but no worse than yesterday. No niggles though which is good. Ran on the canals/disused railway in brum with Hatt. The highlight being her stepping in some dog/human shit which completely engulfed her shoe.

I laughed until I realised the next 50 minutes would be spent smelling poo, with sore legs

Easy Running 41:22 [3] 5.75 mi (7:12 / mi)

Worst run ever with sore legs, in the pissing rain and wind, was supposed to do 30 but I got fucking lost.

Except, it actually wasn't that bad, as using my amazing orienteering skills I pulled it back from the brink of disaster and actually found a decent loop from the gym.

I jsut plodded and aside from aching legs and a bit of a panic it was fairly pleasurable.

It was marred by seeing 2 fire engines, ambulance, 3 police cars and a hundred arse holes with mobile phones (taking pictures) tending to some poor bugger who was trapped underneatth a double decker bus. Not a promising prognosis, it looked pretty grizzly

Session intervals (Grass) 34:54 [3] 6.95 mi (5:01 / mi)

A touch session at a park in Brum called "Rabblebarn" Chris (the lad who Tom and I trained with in Oxford was the only other male attendee, the rest were all girls, so we cracked on and worked pretty well together.

He kicked my arrse last week but this week I was more than a match which is encouraging, hee beat me considerably on the first three reps but from thereon in we were toe to toe, or I was slightly in front. Very windy conditions.

He's in shape atm, but normally I'm a bit in front of him in reps, but in terms of progress, this is defo good news. However, less encouraging is the fact that my legs were absolutely killing with DOMS this am and throughout the session prob from the Sunday run and weights which, foolishly I thought I'd got away with. Therefore I'm gonna plod now to hopefully give a good account of where I am on Sat.

Session was:
(3 x small laps/ 60s)/ 90s
2 big laps continuous/ 90s
(3 x small laps/ 60s)/ 90s
2 x 1 big lap/ 90s
(3 x small laps/ 60s)/ 90s

Easy Running 30:00 [3] 4.11 mi (7:18 / mi)

Easy to the gym, where I planned to do core but spent 30mins on the phone to my dad, then took ages stretching and ran out of time. Recovery was of the essence, which is why I stopped at 30, I think slow running on sore legs can sometimes make them worse

I'm cancelling my trip to Kenya, my Dad saw the consultant today who said he needs the op this month but didn't give a date. Therefore in order to be around an to end the stress of "is it possible to go after the op" I've decided not to go.

I'm gutted as I love the place, it's Hattis birthday while she's out there and it's also cheaper to be out there than farting about driving between brum and Sheffield. But life comes first

Easy Running 55:57 [3] 8.5 mi (6:35 / mi)

I decided to finally check out an area near my folks that I've had my eye on for a while for running. It is called the manvers boating lake near Wath on Dearne and links up with a local RSVB site and the trans pennine trail, so bags of potential. It is also the starting point for the South Yorks HM that a few of the lads did last year.

Hatts did 35 mins with me then I pushed on, a beautiful morning and Ivan confirm that it's a fab venue for easy running and there is also a great cycle path for tempo. The only downer is that in the last 3 minutes I got properly bitten by a dog on my right leg, precisely where it already hurts!

It was a quite a painful bite at the time, but total fine now. I just feel really guilty for swearing at the owne who was a lady aged about 65. I didn't go mental but I did say "your dog actually just Fucking bit me!" immediately I wantedto apologise, but I didnt

Note

I've quite enjoyed reading peoples new year goals. Seeing as though I have recently re-thought my goals for 2012 due to injury, I thought I might put up what I hope to achieve this year.

I wasn't sure how transparent to be with my goals but I decided I'd put down what I really hope to get and then I will put my money where my mouth is and go for it. (this is all assuming I can start proper running now and with no further interruptions):

National XC Champs: Top 60
Trafford 10k: 30:50
Reading Half Marathon: 67:20
Great Manchester Run: 30:30

Summer: Track pb assault: 3k 8:30, 5k 14:40 10k 30:30
Bristol Half 6659

Autumn Marathon: ?? I have too much respect for the marathon to speculate what I think I can get, I hope it will prove to be my distance, but I would like to get under 2:30

I'm not saying I WILL achieve these times but I think there are many things I haven't bit yet tried in my training which leads me to believe that with a bit of luck (and a following wind), they are reasonably realistic. So let's see...

I've promised to pace Hatti's key sessions in Font Romeu in the summer, hopefully it will fit in with training, if not it may slightly affect my training, but I doubt it and it's worth it
2 PM

Steady running long 1:33:12 [3] 15.5 mi (6:01 / mi)
slept:8.0

Did a lap of the reservoirs, post church and lunch in Hathersage. Fuelled by girly drinks last night served by "spunky" Dr. Thake, I decided I would run as hard as the leg allowed and stop if it was sore.

It held up pretty well, I could always feel tightness but never anything which cause concern. I refrained from posting yesterday as I was on a huge downer and didn't wanna bring anyone down, but i was almost in tears at Graves, I really wanna crack on but can't an in getting really frustrated and can't stop thinking about what might be.

I'm really glad I decided not to run though as I would defo have done some damage. I'm only doing the yorkshires if I know I can survive it unscathed- the leg just doesn't seem to like running on grass.

I feel a lot more positive after a great run today, I really enjoyed it. So far the leg feels fine so hopefully I can session Monday or tues.

Happy New Year everyone, let's do something big with our running!
