Note
(rest day)

Grrr. I got progressively more ill as the evening went on and woke up this morning feeling achey and viral. Defo no running today

Very annoyed with myself but yesterday my symptoms were very mild and had built up since Monday when i felt knackered- so I assumed I was almost over it.

Plenty of people on Strava trying to "run their cold off' and not making it worse so can't be too hard on myself but it has to be lesson learned for next time. Would have been pretty lucky to survive this winter without a cold, theres loads flying around!

Bit frustrated as training was just starting to click and I was really looking forward to sefton next week, not so sure its worth trekking all that way now. Could do with a race soon though..

Note

Got dressed for run number two, having left work early (Annual leave) due to my nose constantly streaming.

Feel well in myself but realised I was being a dick so got changed again and drove home. Shame not to hit 100 for the week but pointless chasing numbers.

I didn't expect it to get worse but I think this mornings session was the catalyst
7 AM

Running warm up/down 29:31 [3] 4.1 mi (7:12 / mi)

Running intervals 1:03:25 [5] 10.38 mi (6:07 / mi)

Took a few hours of annual leave for a day light XC sesh. Woke up with the cold a bit worse, but remains a head cold with RHR normal.

After some deliberating I decided to get the session done. I'd been looking forward to it all week.

It took place in a few rutted dog walking fields behind a local school which I run through on most of my Linacre routes. I've been wanting to do a session here since I was injured for that long period of time. There are a few back fields and then a sloping, exactly 400m grass loop with mud, rough grass and a few "kicker" lumps to get over- great XC training. I geekily created a strava segment for it entitled "field of dreams".

Anyway, session was 15mins M effort/2mins, 8 x 800 Hard/75s, 15mins M.

Soon into the session the weather turned to freezing and driving sleet/wind so it wasn't pleasant. I'd be lying if I said I smashed it, merely "got through it".
I changed direction on the 800m reps (performed on the field of dreams) every 2 reps and its interesting what an effect it had on times.

HR all about 157

I'm actually pretty pleased with that in hindsight as i couldn't really get going with cold legs. Just need to get this cold shifted now

Morning Linacre plod, nice morning but nippy
5 PM

Running 1:13:04 [3] 10.12 mi (7:13 / mi)
ahr:125

Linacre plod with 20 secs effort every time I hit an incline.

Lovely evening, but frustratingly I've got a cold so feel a bit cack. Explains the tiredness earlier in the week though

Running 41:58 [3] 5.92 mi (7:05 / mi)

IW better than expected but feel a bit knackered and run down

Running 1:13:03 [3] 10.06 mi (7:16 / mi)

HFW

Feeling pretty tired and under the weather, with a very minor head cold but enough to make me feel cack.

An enjoyable run though-legs a lot better than i expected post track. Fields starting to get very muddy.

HR very low. Maybe need to put a bit more effort in, or could be part of being a bit tired

7 AM

Running 38:31 [3] 5.25 mi (7:20 / mi)
ahr:130

Morning Linacre plod glut sore and feeling thick headed
5 PM

Running warm up/down 44:55 [3] 6.0 mi (7:29 / mi)

Falling asleep at the wheel on the way down to track after a fairly shitty day at work.

Worse still, I got totally blanked by Paul F as he ran past. Its ok though, turns out he'd been ignoring his wife and kids' calls again too...
6 PM

Running intervals 54:09 [5] 7.65 mi (7:05 / mi)
ahr:152

Session of 1 mile M pace, 20 x 400/60s, 1 mile M pace

A get through session for a number of reasons (thick head, knackered and a tight hammy and glut.)

Fortunately it was a seemingly fast night conditions wise and a group was smashing it so the sessions ticked along nicely and a felt controlled running decent times. I'd like to have been closer to the front and a few seconds quicker but I can't grumble in such a talented group

Running tempo 1:50:38 [5] 18.0 mi (6:09 / mi)
ahr:142

Session of 4 x 15mins/0.5mile easy.
Up most of the night with a screaming Sophie, so a bit dazed

Ideally at marathon pace, but I'm just not hitting it atm. Unbelievable morning for it.

One positive was that HR wasn't near marathon effort, but thats also a little frustrating, body just not willing to go deep atm. Feel great in myself though
