Note
(rest day)

Pretty knackered today. Knee a bit grumbly. Fingers crossed that single days work. Gonna be hard reducing my calorie intake though!!

Cool to see my three peaks number today. Field looks stacked and there's a number of tasty looking foreigners. Be interesting to know how good they all are. But a little researchs suggests at least 3 of them are bloody good!

Running 1:36:24 [3] 8.8 mi (10:57 / mi)

4 x Win Hill at conversation pace with Pete just to give the legs one last reminder of steep climbs and descents.

Saved Parkin for last and disappointingly I was SO shit. Totally lost Pete. Not afraid of it just couldn't physically organise a quicker descent.

Pleasingly though I found myself on the Strava leaderboard on one of the other descents!

I'm certainly miles better than l used to be, but sadly in the scheme of things thats still crap.

Enjoyed it a lot. Last double day today before proper taper and I am ready (to back off!)

Cycling 1:02:49 [3] 19.0 mi (18.1 mph)

Cycled back from the fantastic Endcliffe Park duck race. A lovely idea and a brilliant family day out, the park brimming with happy families. Decent pace considering a slow climb to ringinglow in traffic.

Double days done.

Running 1:04:51 [3] 9.0 mi (7:12 / mi)
ahr:128

Decided to try and get the longer run done before the rain.

Knee a little stiff on waking- not to bad for the first 2 miles then sore for the second half of the run.

Hmmm..hoping to do a bit on win hill tomorrow- hope it settles.

Tempted to go for a two massages a week strategy till the race, but don't really have any more cash to spunk on it!

Running 36:28 [3] 5.1 mi (7:09 / mi)

HFW
Feeling flat and looking forward to properly backing off from Wednesday

Knee ok initially but sore towards the end. Appears a bit swollen which is troubling..

Hmmph...

Couldn't be arsed this morning, quite tired but only had one window. Was a bit unsure what to do after yesterday and partly dictated by not very flexible training plans next week..

Opted for 8 x 5 mins on Beeley/roll down rec. Normally on rep 7 I don't roll down and perform rep 8 on the second half of the climb…except I got my maths wrong and ended up doing rep 8 on the flat at the top! Doh!

Just rode within tired legs so HR was a bit cack but decent strength training for the quads.

Knee pretty sore this morning as to be expected. Just hope i can get it right from now. Just one more planned cycle and the rest of the taper is planned to be running, but only if I'm on the right side of the knee pain.

Really cold wind this morning and had 50 mins cold headwind on the warm up which wasn't fun! Give me running and day!!

Ave HR for efforts a meagre 134
5 PM

Running 35:51 [3] 5.0 mi (7:10 / mi)
ahr:120

Needed to keep in touch with running but knee too sore to go hilly so headed out on the Monsal Trail.

After a freezing cold bike ride this AM and a cold, windy Easter Egg hunt fail at Longshaw I have not stopped eating all day. Grrr.. so operation racing weight will have to start tomorrow.

Knee sore but improved as the day went on. Generally niggly as hell though so very much looking forward to the final taper before a break!

Taper time now. Bit disappointed I haven't done thhe training I had planned, as I had a few cool things lined up that I hoped would really benefit the 3 peaks race. Much of it involved decent paced stuff on terrain and working on descending. So its a big shame I missed most of it (and the bits that I did achieve were very early on in the block).

But hey-ho, Im at a point now where I'll genuinely just be happy if I can get round with minimal knee pain and have a fun race with those around me.

We had such a great time in Malham on the recce weekend that I'm really excited about going back (but not as much as Sophie, who keeps going on about it!)

Running long 2:47:10 [3] 22.15 mi (7:33 / mi)
ahr:137

A final return to the Grindleford loop. Need to have a long run in the legs or no point turning up at the race, so a calculated risk.

Had a few pints with a mate last night so a little thick headed and still very niggly from Tuesdays session. But pleasingly the knee wasn't sore on waking or walking downstairs for the first time in 4 weeks.

Pretty grim day with fog and drizzle, but in fairness conditions were nice for a long run and it was good to practice descending on slippy rock. The only shitty bit was the boring bit from Eyam to Great Longstone.

Deliberately tried to keep the run as constant as possible, not stopping the watch for stiles/ cattle grids to try and practice getting over them quickly.

Contemplated doing 4 x 15 mins but it was pretty evident in the first mile that I'm the niggliest man in niggletown, so just ran it easy but tried to run well over anything "technical" and the descents.

Despite not being a scaredy cat today it highlighted that my decision making and foot placement are pretty crap, so as I've said before I just need to accept this on race day and concentrate on getting down "fast for me"

Great to get it done. Niggles came on at 9 miles which is a great improvement. Last 5 weren't comfortable but hopefully with some TLC now I can at least toe the line and enjoy the weekend.

Just got to see how I feel tomorrow and get through a planned easy one on Win Hill on Monday and a few tick over sessions.

IW.
Knee killing, but mainly where it was massaged last night so I'm not too worried. Wasn't fun though.

More concerning was the high HR for the effort as people in my team are dropping like flies with a sickness bug.

Feel fine myself but tired from a decent week
4 PM

Running 1:05:26 [3] 9.0 mi (7:16 / mi)
ahr:123

HFW.

A weird cold/not cold temp and a windy grey run. Felt tired and a bit lethargic too!

Knee ok initially a bit sore but no where near as a bad as recently.

Tummy dodge when I got back…but HR ok. 2 people went home today!

Attempting the last long run tomorrow. Fingers crossed

Fortunately theres a newish cycle shop across the road from the hospital..very lucky! But not the delay I needed when I wa hoping to race home to get a run in, see Soph and get out for a message. Bloody cycling!

Headwind all thhe way and HR so low I might as well not have bothered! Hopefully good for recovery though!!
