Monday Mar 27

Note
(injured) (rest day)
Getting better. Ankle seems better, sligtly painful, but I think it's going to be allright. Knees seem to be OK.

Sunday Mar 26

Orienteering race (night, scout) 5:28:00 [4] ***** 11.2 km (29:17 / km) +700m 22:19 / km
ahr:152 max:219 spiked:12/12c (injured)
This was non-human today. One of the biggest and best organised scout orienteering events in Slovenia - NOT. Orienteering was difficult - large fields of tiny depressions, from 0 to 75cm of snow, stony terrain, lots of wood, covered with snow ... One of the hardest races I ever did ... It was mind-killing, running in the REALLY slow terrain after 3 hours of intense physical activity ... In the end - feeling is great, of course. Tomorow will definitely be a rest day. :)

Oh, yes. And 1:25000 map was used.

Results: Two slightly swollen ankles, sore knees and sore every other muscle in my body. ;) I hope knees recover well.

Sunday Mar 19

Running warm up/down 8:00 [1]
Running 58:00 [4] 10.5 km (5:31 / km) +150m 5:09 / km
ahr:162 max:180
Running in Lamek with Jazbar ... A bit tired from yesterday, so I had a little bit of difficulty catching up the pace ... I have been running in orienteering shoes, which - as it seems - is not too good for my knees, I felt them quite a lot yesterday ...

Saturday Mar 18

Orienteering 1:36:00 [3] ** 10 km (9:36 / km) +550m 7:32 / km
ahr:164 max:186
Run on the Rajda 2 map, mostly on trails. From Cerkno to the top of the map (500m of ascent), I have been checking the terrain on the top of the map where next OLP league race could be set, then I did a moderate downhill to the bottom of the map, following some line object, crossing the slope, checking the terrain. It is not that simple as it looks from the map and I guess the race could be nice.

At the 650m a.s.l. there is still quite some snow and it was difficult to run on trails ...

Wednesday Mar 15

Running 26:37 [5] 6.02 km (4:25 / km) +20m 4:21 / km
ahr:178 max:192 shoes: New Balance 1022
Whoa ... This was fast ... For me, of course. I figured it was late and I couldn't run 2 laps, so I did one at partly full speed. The time is together with warm up ... It is a bit cold, a few snowflakes in the air, snow is not totaly frozen and it was partly hard to run ... So, the time is great, I guess ... Maybe a measure for my future fartlek improvement of the speed. ;)

Tuesday Mar 14

Note
(rest day)
To train or to study? To study! Have been in the library till 10pm, no energy to run after that ...

Monday Mar 13

Note
(rest day)
Resting after hard weekend. The weather is cold anyway ... Not too appealing for running outside. ;) Am I a pussy? ;)

Sunday Mar 12

Running warm up/down 15:00 [3]
Do I really have to warm up before 8.4km?! ;-) Looks like I have.
Orienteering race 1:34:11 [4] **** 8.38 km (11:14 / km) +185m 10:07 / km
spiked:21/21c
Today I didn't want to leave anything to random. I ran - glued to the map - a bit reserved and slower, but - my map reading was perfect. I did a bit of a mistake to the first control but after that I mostly ran a clear race. It was supposed to be the most difficult race I've ever ran, but it wasn't. The kilometers I ran during the winter start to pay off ... But - I am in a great lack of technique ... And maybe also running technique. My map reading is slow, I have to stop too often, I don't thrust my memory, etc.

The race was difficult. Course setting and following the route required quite some concentration. I enjoyed but - I was dissapointed since my technique can not really follow my physical fittness and besides ... I do not have speed. I should start with intervals as soon as possible.

Saturday Mar 11

Running warm up/down 20:00 [2]
Warm up before first start in WRE ... Ever. ;-) These WRE events are getting so damn public. And being the first to start is not really very nice thing ... The guy that commented the whole thing hoped to have some real elite in front of him, but I wasn't. ;) My best hope was to break the limit of the bottom third, and my real hope was not to be the last.
Orienteering race 1:16:00 [4] **** 5.7 km (13:20 / km) +165m 11:39 / km
spiked:16/16c
The start itself was a disaster. I fell in front of a huge (for orienteering) public in the start area, everybody watching. It was fun anyway and it didn't distract me too much. I tried to fold the map and find the start triangle for the whole distance to the start flag, but I couldn't. Anyway - my first leg was fantastic, fast and focused. Second leg was also nice, then it started to get a bit more complicated. Map was not perfect and I got distracted a few times, but I managed it ok to the 5th control. Then I boomed MAJOR to the 6th. I got distracted for 90 degrees and ran almost half a kilometer not knowing it. Later some nice orienteer showed me where I was and I was frustrated. Got to 7th with difficulty and my self confidence dropped immensly. I boomed again to the 8th - it was huge, but on a 'micro-level'. Then I got back to my senses and made an OK race to the finsih line. 20 minutes of mistakes ... Bad, very bad. This time - 0 WRE points for me, I guess. :)

Otherwise - Lipica Open was amazing. Beautiful terrain, ok map, lots of folks ... Really one of the best races I've been to.

Monday Mar 6

Note
(rest day)
Well, rest day after difficult weekend is allright I suppose. ;-) Besides - there are tons of melting snow around here so, it's not too nice to run around.

Sunday Mar 5

Running warm up/down 45:00 [3]
It was a long way to start today ... 2.4km of direct distance and 250m of climb. And 1km of distance from finish to the competition center ...
Orienteering race 1:02:56 [4] *** 4.63 km (13:36 / km) +50m 12:54 / km
ahr:173 max:190 spiked:21/21c
Start of the race was nice ... First 4 CP on fast and not so detailed terrain, then most of the race on detailed stony slope - not very nice, but I enjoyed. Did plenty of little mistakes and produced 3 bigger booms (loosing 7:30 alltogether). First - I didn't see the path trough the extremely stony are, second - lost perception of distance on slow terrain and got mistaken by similarities of the terrain on 100m interval, and third - I got lost for a while (also because of helping another begginer) on a open terrain (quite a problem of mine). Overall - nice race; it was raining like yesterday. I was still behind my competition in the M21E, but today for only 3 tiny seconds. And I also managed to beat 2 other runners. ;-) I still have quite a gap to reach slovenian elite level (which we all know, is not that elite). ;-)

Saturday Mar 4

Orienteering race 1:13:25 [4] *** 4.43 km (16:34 / km) +245m 12:59 / km
ahr:176 max:198 spiked:18/18c slept:4.0
Finally! First real race after long and snowy winter! I have been waiting for this day for quite a while. Weather was cold and it was raining, otherwise it was nice race at OO.cup/spring at Ajdovscina. I felt good about my physical shape. I produced 3 major booms and a series of smaller. The biggest boom happened at 150m leg with 30m climb. I found the control instantly, but the code was wrong (I was running Elite for the first time today and controls were supposed to be in order ... 31, 32 ... but they were not), at leas I thought so. I wasn't so sure about the distance and climb on the leg and found out I was probably too far ... 15 minutes ... Disaster. Anyway - I enjoyed the rest of the race, but nevertheless ... I finished 19 mintes behind all other competitors. ;-) Not a great debut. C'est la vie. Next chance - tomorrow!

Oh yes ... Terrain was not so great. Too much climb and the map was not so great either.
Running warm up/down 20:00 [3]

Thursday Mar 2

Running 1:00:00 [3] 12 km (5:00 / km) +30m 4:56 / km
ahr:176 max:190 shoes: New Balance 1022
Finally running again!!! Outside. Night. Snow. Clear sky. No moon. Nice. Ran pretty fast, no problems with being tired. A bit heavier legs in the 2nd lap, but no big problem.

Wednesday Mar 1
