Cycling from the shore to the middle of Istra ... Beautiful path by the shore, nice trail up the hill, lovely secenery in the highland. Lot's of stops with Spela and Meti. Deciding to go alone for next 30 kilometers to the car and go back to take them home.
Cycling 1:02:48 [4] ** 31.5 km (2:00 / km) +160m 1:57 / km
ahr:159 max:180 shoes: New Balance 765
Riding my bike through Vodnjan to Rovinj. I have been fast ... Map was not good at one point, lost a few minutes and kolometers there, then took the main road. Quite some uphill. Got tired and it felt good.

Orienteering race 2:14:53 [4] **** 10.3 km (13:06 / km) +625m 10:03 / km
ahr:178 max:215 spiked:25/25c slept:0.5 weight:87kg shoes: VJ Lops
Well - a disasterous race ... I have only slept half an hour during the night, but this is usually not the problem for my bad performance. I've done 29:40 of mistakes - but I would still have been quite bad without them ...

I was inaccurate with the map, often missed direction, once I completely lost contact ... Besides, after 8 kilometers (and 600m of altitude) I had been worn out. Why? I have had power to run much longer races ...

Simon and Samo ran 2:04 ... So, 10 minutes behind them, which is not that bad after all ...

SOL race in Vrba (Velden) in Austria/Koroska. Very, very simple orienteering, fast map. It was fun anyway. Sometimes it is nice to run. Been 20 minutes behind the winner, 14 minutes behind Legac, 2.5 minutes ahead of Samo.

Met Cesare, spoke to him about the WRE in NC long next year on May 13th. Spoke to him about renewing our maps. Samo had 3-regions meeting (Italy/Koroska/Slovenija) and it was concluded, that our NC in relay (14th of May) would be a 3-regions race. Nice!!

Before the race ...
Note
I feel the hip today still, but I had no problems during the race. I can still feel the hip in the morning or when sleeping on that side.

Note
12th out of 30 runners on Zagreb Open, 582 WRE points. WRE leader in OK Azimut is Simon with 599 points, followed by Drago with 592 points. A few seconds to beat them. ;)

I participated in Zagreb Open, city/park/forrest race in the Zagreb. Unique terrain - special mixture - but very unusual for the WRE event. Also very unusual map for the WRE event (not ISOM/ISSOM though organiser claimed it was). Some other minuses - no sport ident, very poor perforators on the CP's (we user better equipment for our local races!!!), very poor start area/corridor, no microlocations as promised, clock delay from start to finish (38 seconds!), etc.

Anyway - I enjoyed the race. I was not feeling very good before the race. I have eaten too much the previous day and I was short of sleep. I used some extra time before the start for warm up. Did a few laps in the park, ran to the start area, did a few laps there.

During the race. I was quite fast in the flat city area and then very poor on the uphill. In the forrest I ran Herwig Allwingers tempo (but he had an operation recently, so he ran very reserved!), then I accelerated in the end (flat area again!).

I was not very good in reading the map. I made a series of small mistakes in the forrest (Herwig was perfect on the map), which prevented me to be faster, but loss of time was not big. 1:40 alltogether.

I finished in the top half of the M21 category, which gives me hopes for two things: beating my WRE record which is embarassingly low at the moment and getting status of national level sportsman - but more about that some other time.

Note
I may seem strange to some people, writing this log - and in English. Oh, well ... There are a few advantages of writing down all the statistics. It shows up after a few years.

I have been browsing my competition logs from 2004, 2005 and 2006. I extracted only one data - kilometer time.

My average time per kilometer was:
In 2004 - 15:28
In 2005 - 13:22 (average mistake 9:50)
9 of 28 competitions with really big booms
In 2006 - 10:59 (average mistake 9:23)
However - in M21E tracks are 20 - 100% longer!
6 of 32 competitions with really big booms.

Well - to most of orienteers these times might sound as a disaster, however you should consider slovenian terrains with really difficult karst and/or really steep slopes.

Compared with world champs I am 1.9-2 times slower on long/middle and 1.3-1.5 times slower on sprints.

I have competed agains many aces this season: Marco Seppi (many times in Slovenia), Chris Terkelsen (on a sprint N.C. in Italy), Pijak brothers (on OO.cup in Slovenia) and half of the world elite on WUOC (Michal Smola, Simon Krepsta and O. Kvaal Osterbo have been the winners).

Headed for training on Rajda map, although still feeling my loungs, breathing heavily and coughing ... It was a tough training with quite some altitude. I couldn't make it faster. My average heart rate at 180 shows I was pushing as hard as I could.

Anyway - did for around 4 minutes of mistakes. Lots of small mistakes on the slope and one major mistake when misreading the map. It was an OK race.

Sunday Oct 1

Running 41:35 [3] 7.6 km (5:28 / km) +79m 5:12 / km
ahr:160 max:175 shoes: New Balance 765
Running on Ro~nik with Tina. Remeasured the lap with the footpad. It said 7.6km. Which is closer to what I have measured on the orienteering map than what has been measured with the bike (8.0km). I need to check the lap with the bike.

I feel really weak today. I don't know why. Maybe it is because of my illness. Running was good though - tempo much better than usual and a record for Tina. We were extremely slow in the uphill though.
Cycling 45:00 [3] 12.5 km (3:36 / km)
Cycling to Tina and back.
