| 11 kilometers did not seem that long after a very satisfying performance on the training camps; also the terrain was not that difficult, what I knew from the day before.
Anyway - I started reserved, had not enough power for the race. Made a bit of mistake (and was slow!!!) to the first. Nailed second. Got mislead to 3rd, when I saw another similar control up the hill (Andraz made the same mistake - and quite some other similar mistakes this race). First long distance to the 4th was OK. Helped some lost guy on the way - lost 1 minute there. To the 5th was funny. I came too low and then mixed up control code with 6th. I lost approx 5 minutes, I think. Then I went on well. I had some problems with distance, but ... Then - to the 10th I fell on the rocks. My knee is swollen and sore, my compas is almost broken, my hands are cut ... From 8th to 15th there was a new kind of butterfly/loop implemented. OK experience, but it had no point for me. The long lek to 17th was great ... I used 8:40 for 1.2km. Jure used 4:40!!! And it was some uphill too! To 21st I followed some Suiss guys when I got cut off the map for a while. To 22nd I ended up in a steep rocky long downhill. I lost a lot of time there! I should have taken the leg on the road! From then on I went on quite smooth, but I was very tired and I was also thinking (not only running) slow. Had to stop a lot. Andraz 88', Jure 96', Daniel 106', Guergieu 60'. This guy is phenomenal!!!

| It was freezingly cold in the plateau of Gestoso at the first day of POM 2007 (1100m a.s.l.), From the car I ran to the start and then managed to run until the start to stay warm. I also did a litle bit of stretching.
After finish I ran straight back to the car. Before going to warm up I managed to catch a glympse of Mr. Thierry Guergieu. It's a funny feeling to be such a fan. :)

| 228 men in elite category. The fullest race I ever did. Starts in elite were per 1 minute; next days it will be different.
I did a solid race in the open and extremely rocky terrain. I was not fast, but I was fairly accurate, noticing again my technique has been my advantage today. I made 3'20" of mistakes, which is OK for this type of race and 25 CP's. Though I was slow. Again mostly due to many fears about my technique and making bigger mistakes. To the CP1 I have been caught by Fabien from the Belgian team, who started 1 minute behind. I had him in sight until CP3. Then I think I did it OK and by myself until CP10. I made a mistake there and got overtaken by some finnish runner, who I followed up to 15 or 16 - though I was quite familiar with the map and did orienteering by myself, using the runner in front of me for a control. I made a mistake to 18th and got overtaken by some fast and inaccurate runners. Got caught up in the group and made a few mistakes with them. To the 23rd I have been overtaken by Mathias Karlson - for a few steeps it seemed simple to follow him, but then ... Felt fresh in the finish anyway, but my legs hurt.

| Transfer from Mira to Sao Pedro de Sul, registration, new accomodation.
I managed to put flyers for our competition (Slovenia Open) to the basic competitors kit. It was the only promotional material there. So - many thanks to Ori-Estarreja. The feeling is good, landscape changed from sandy dunes to magmatic mountains. Nice!

| TRAINING 20
The worst race I had in a while. I don't know what the problem was, but ... I really sucked. Made for 22 minutes of mistakes - turned my map for 180 degrees for 2 or 3 times, made a 90 degrees mistake and many more ... Impossible! The race was organised by the Austrian team for all the members of the training camp. I guess - I was the last. I didn't even read my SI. Terrain was the same as for farsta race.

| Running second loop in TRAINING 21. Got completely out of touch in a semi-open areas with lots of greens. Made for 12 minutes of mistakes! I skipped the last loop. 2 controls have been set by the ocean ... Took a few moments to enjoy the sunny clear view, which is quite a rare thing around here. | ||

| TRAINING 22: Took the training easy. It was a nice course set through the other half of the map, used in the morning. Got distracted 2 times on the terrain. Once it was a paralel mistake and once azimuth mistake. Alltogether for around 6 minutes of mistakes. I made many smaller mistakes - 15 secs, when looking for controls when being a few meters around.
I took the track easier though I did run some pretty fast intervals.

| We ran TRAINING 18 today ... Us and ... Czech team, Austrian team, Nylands club and a few of other people. It was a mass start organized by the Austrians and it was a farsta type of race. Relay, but with one leg only. Running in the forrest with around 40 guys was fun. Of course, I have been one of the worst men so ... After CP8 I lost contact with the others and to the CP9 (made a mistake presumably to some bad mapping) I was already overtaken by Marianne Andersen and Dana Brozkova (women started a few minutes behind us). Until the finish I ran with a Czech and Austrian girl ... I was surprised, that I ran technically better.
It was acctually my first mass start in a relay type of race and it felt great. We should do more farsta races at home! Jaka ran 27', Jure ran around 47'. I made 3:30 of mistakes. I am getting a bit tired so I am planning to skip afternoons training. I can also feel my right knee and my back. Some recovery might be allright. Anyway. We have experienced all the types of the terrain around here, we still need to go to S. Pedro maps to the south, which are situated near the ocean and some CP's are set on the dunes at the beach. This shall be fun. :)

| TRAINING 2 - middle distance on a nice terrain. Typical Portugese terrain with some undergrowth. Orienteering was pretty simple and ... when there was no undergrowth, there was some nice english grass on a soft surface. :) Quite different feeling. I made 1:35 of mistakes. Got tired after 3km and could only run on 80% from then on. Seems like I am getting tired.
My Polar is still quite poor in batteries so ... It is not catching all the heartbeat data.
| Note | ||
| Jaka is healthy ... And Andraz got ill today.
In the race, Jaka ran 30' (I had the same speed in the middle part of the course and got a few legs better that he did), Jure ran 31'.

| Ran TRAINING 2 in the afternoon. The map was fast runnable with some english lawn. :) It was lovely. I made quite a few mistakes: 13 minutes alltogether - the worst mistake was to CP1 when I misjudged my direction for 20 degrees and ... Them nade a vast parallel mistake which I could not solve. Anyway - I have seen clearly that I have been turning to the right almost every control ... It might be something about my compass or the technique how I look at it, because I have noticed that the needle always makes a 30 degree dance when I turn the compass up and face it ... I guess, I need to buy Silva JET SPECTRA ASAP. | ||
