Run 54:03 [3] 7.77 mi (6:57 / mi)
Baker 2 Vegas Relay. Leg 17 which was about 2.5% net downhill.
Out to Vegas Saturday afternoon, chilled in the hotel room, tried to sleep from 1900-0000 and got a little. Met the rest of my squad around 0200 at the host hotel and drove into the desert for my leg.
Took the hand off at almost exactly 0330. Spent the first 5k just trying not to overcook the downhill and shred the legs. Staying right around tempo TT effort (LTHR -10) for the middle section. Gobbling up slower teams like pacman. Anaheim PD got by me pretty early. Dude had this LONG lopey stride and I was sure he'd gas and come back to me...nope.
No one else came around, and I think I caught RSO somewhere, but I'm not sure. Tried pushing, but any pace too deep under 7 mins and the HR would spike. One gear. *shrug*
Handed off to Rzab and checked the watch. Honest effort, this was all I had on the day. Team wound up 6th in open and 6th overall between Anaheim PD and RSO; a heartbreaking 5:39 behind 5th. Ouch.
Team ran 14 hrs 15 (7:07 pace) so at least my pace was under the team average, if just barely.
Team photo, silver bullets at 0630 (no thanks!) back to the hotel and passed out until lunch. Lounged around in the hotel room, because when do we ever get to do nothing for a day? Came home Monday in less traffic, but still shitty.
Looking forward to PCT 50. Lots of work still to do.
