Wednesday Jul 27

Orienteering race 59:58 [4] *** 6 km (10:00 / km)
spiked:13/16c
Score-O at Ellison Park. Got 16 of 20 controls - should have been able to get 18. Messed up badly on C8 - it was all trail but I way underestimated the distance (back to 1:10K for this score-O) and searched diligently around the wrong hill - felt REALLY stupid when the bag was right on the trail.

Also had long delay on C5 - this was as much a mapping issue as my problem - there were a lot more trees and a lot less clearing in real life, but I should have been able to adjust more quickly.

Had to run very hard the last 8 minutes to get back under the wire (just grabbing 1 control on the way in).

spiked:21/24c (injured)
Still can't go at high speed, but slow and steady was good enough for this score-o at Cobbs Hill Park. 16 was not on the path indicated, so I didn't find it during the first pass. I had time to go back and find it on the wrong path before the 60 minutes expired (of course, it was the control farthest from the start).

spiked:18/20c (injured)
Re-ran last July's score-o course at Irondequoit Bay East. Ran clockwise versus counter-clockwise during the event (only 17 controls in 1 hour).

Hamstring only gave hints of problem. Will find out on Wednesday whether the injury or fitness is now my limitation.

Advanced perm course at Hickory Run. Blew the first control due to nasty fern undergrowth. Splits:

Saturday Jul 2

Friday Jul 1

Orienteering 2:00:00 [3] ****
(injured)
Ran on map from June '05 Hickory Run Score-O that Rob from DVOA was kind enough to send. Took extra time to verify locations where the bags used to be.

Continuing tradition, first control on an out-of-town course was particularly difficult as I figured out what's mapped / not mapped. Other excuses: terrain more subtle than I am used to, and the map was 1:15K.
