Note
(rest day)

Deserved a day off, so I just put the runners thru their last real workout of the season.

Orienteering race 2:03:23 [4] *** 12.5 km (9:52 / km) +400m 8:31 / km
spiked:18/24c slept:8.0

My first Billygoat. Not too bad, but I ran most of the course alone. Wanted to find someone consistent to chase, but got stuck having to go right at the start, since the mob was to my left. Ross got way ahead going up the hill. Still rejoined the pack ahead of the Saegers, but fell behind when I followed someone into the woods too early. Going up to C2, I knew they made the right decision, going left, but since everyone else went right, I did, too. Big mistake - had to skirt some nasty stuff and come into the control backwards, seeing the Saegers well on their way out. But I really lost most of my time on 5-6-7, with some horrible route choices, some difficulty finding 5, and having to unload stones from my shoe on the way to 6. It would have helped to have been with a group (or someone) thru this section. Things got much better for awhile, and I was moving fairly nicely along the trails. But I had a poorly executed skip of 22, and went from a minute ahead of Brendan before our skips (he skipped 23) to a minute behind him afterwards.

This was a great deal of fun, and I hope it fits in the schedule next year.

Running warm up/down 8:00 [2] 0.8 mi (10:00 / mi)

Just a little jogging at times before the start. Wanted to be ready to move quickly, if necessary.

Event: Billygoat

Orienteering race 16:04 [4] *** 2.28 km (7:03 / km)
spiked:6/8c

Sprint-2 Course at Camp Pinnacle. Ran "2" first. Call it a tempo effort, didn't want to wear myself out before tomorrow. Missed a couple of trail shortcuts, not being used to a 1:5 map. Used trails most of the time between controls, as they were plentiful and the woods seemed a bit on the slow side.

Orienteering race 18:21 [4] *** 2.22 km (8:16 / km)
spiked:7/8c

Sprint-1 at Camp Pinnacle. Didn't take much recovery time after the first course, since I wanted to hustle down to Smitty's in Voorheesville for the Sabres game (what a disappointment that was). I walked in several spots on this course, although I did try to pick it up a bit when Ross passed me, but I was not good on the downhill thru the brush running. Surprisingly, I seem to have finished one place higher on this course than on the other.

Running 48:43 [3] 6.56 mi (7:26 / mi)
slept:5.5

GTA - good turnout: Scott, Frank, Erik & Lawrence (both back from Bulgaria - I didn't get to stick around to hear some of the stories), JV, DV, Vinny, Jim O, Darren. Annual tour of the Lilac Festival site. Stayed with the group until we left the park, then I coasted, while they went back to 6:30 or so pace, to save something for the sprints and Goat this weekend.

I would not have made it out this AM, if the Sabres had lost last night.

Running 33:00 [2] 4.0 mi (8:15 / mi)
slept:7.5 weight:165.5lbs

Easy running during track practice - bike path loop and around the track while timing Marc's workout. He did the "4-minute mile" workout, running 4x400 in a total of 3:50 (54.2 on the first, 57.1 on the last).

Running 1:03:30 [2] 7.88 mi (8:03 / mi)
rhr:45 slept:7.0

River loop up to the GV Park ped bridge and back the other side. Waited until the T'storm passed to head to the Y. Quite windy for the run. Brooks Landing construction is still mostly destruction. But the Troup-Howell bridge reconstruction is winding down. It looks like the west side riverpath detour will be gone in the near future.

A little sore from yesterday's undocumented "strides" while actively watching the track races.
