| Running race 19:31 [5] 5 km (3:54 / km) vdot: 51.3 | ||
| Ran the Kyle Reid Memorial 5K in Hamburg. Ran the first mile with Nate, we went thru in 6:09. I was fading a bit, so he pulled ahead during mile 2 - I ran 6:20, he was about 6:15. I caught up to him and a couple of other guys at about 2.5, and kept pushing but Nate couldn't go with me, so I got him by 14 seconds with a 6:22 pace last 1.1 miles. He was not feeling well after the race. It was quite warm - the 11am start was not good for Nate. Not that I particularly liked it either. | ||

| Running warm up/down 20:00 [2] 0 mi ( / mi) | ||
| Did some warming up with Nate before the race. Afterwards, jogged back and caught the last few minutes with Walt, who managed to go safely under 9 minute pace. | ||

| Easy run around Main-South-Inner Loop-Monroe-East area. Trying to get myself ready for tomorrow's showdown with Nate. I think I've forgotten how to race, but we'll see. | ||

| GTA (route) with Scott, Frank, Erik, Vinny, JV, DV, Leo. Alexis and Shannon were also there to run with Sue (GTA for Women?). With the 5K vs. Nate coming up on Saturday, I wanted to take it easy - and I thought it would be, since the V-bros are running the Corp Challenge tonight. But it was Leo that pushed the early pace below 7 minutes. I stayed close for 25 minutes or so, then I slowed to nearly 8-min pace for the last 2 miles, in an attempt to save some legs for Saturday. | ||

| 49. Much more of this and this will certainly be my last year of golf until the pending college costs are under control. | ||

| Up the river to the UR ped bridge and back the other side. Did 7 x 1 min quicker stride drills (avg 165/min) on the way back.
5:04, 13:40, 21:41, 24:47, 32:20, 40:52 (still a detour on the west side of the Troup-Howell bridge), 46:37. | ||

| Easy run during the less interesting part of the Frosh-Soph meet at Aquinas. Ran a little longer than planned. Started out running with a google map of the area, but when I got to Maplewood Park, I hopped onto a trail that ran down the gorge and went N along the river, about to the Vetran's Bridge. Didn't see a sign of an upcoming way out, and I was out of time, so I went back. | ||

| Golfing 27:00 [1] | ||

| Great way to spend a day. Got out for 18 holes in the AM: 46-44-90, thanks to a 7 on #17 (well, that and 4 doubles on the front). Caught a nap after lunch. Then the guys went out for 9 holes before dinner. I was in the zone, and was 2-over after 8 holes. Had visions of another bogey to card a PR, 38. Instead, I choked, and it snowed (hence the snowman), which left me with a 41. Nate, Zach and Luke all had a good time. Nate hadn't played in a couple of years - he can actually hit the ball pretty far now. Zach crushed a couple of drives 115-120 yards, which is pretty good considering the length of his driver. We kept Luke's golfing confined to the greens for now. | ||

| Event: ROC - Webster Park - W/Y/O, Sprint | ||

| ROC Meet at Webster Park - Orange Course. Blew C2 to the tune of about 3 minutes - very depressing. I totally misread the map and was looking for the control before I got to the stream. Did better the rest of the way, but lost time on a couple of legs due to Swamp-a-phobia. I've had bad luck cutting thru swamps here, so I was running around, even though it was clearly not the best option.

| ROC Meet at Webster Park - Sprint Course. I really didn't have much left in my legs for this. Ran around on the road to get to C1, which wasn't worth it. Rest of the course was pretty clean - I was just slow.

| ROC Meet at Webster Park - Yellow course. Since there was a category for Orange + Sprint + Yellow, I decided to go out on Yellow, too. Felt a little better than during the Sprint, but was still 2 minutes slower than feet. And he didn't look like he was pushing too hard, so I've got some fitness work to do, in addition to improving my navigation (note to self: step one - learn what those squiggly brown lines mean - Nate tells me they are useful). | ||
| Running warm up/down 7:00 [2] | ||
| Did some jogging before the first course. | ||
