Skiing (Skating) 30:00 [3] 3.0 mi (10:00 / mi)
slept:6.0

Time is a guestimate; distance is totally random.

Went down to Harriet Hollister to see Nate's XC Ski Sectional meet. He had a very nice race - finally seems to be getting the hang of classic skiing - and placed 22nd. He was 3rd for Webster, behind two seniors. HF-L totally dominated again, with all 8 of their entrants placing in the top 11.

I was able to ski down and up to the rest room area before the race started, but then had to take the skis off to check out the course and then effectively watch. It's not as easy to be a good spectator as with XC running - the snow depth in the woods really precludes shortcuts. After the boys race, I skiied back to watch the girls start, then did the loop near the road - it was fun going down the hill, but it was ungroomed and a real challenge to get back up.

Running 53:46 [2] 6.55 mi (8:12 / mi)

Drove from Harriet up to the Webster rink, where Zach would be playing soccer. My legs were pretty heavy - not sure how much was the skiing (followed by the drive) versus the Tuesday/Thursday efforts this week. So, my goal had been to be out for at least an hour, but I left it a bit short.

I ran this route.

I turned around on Klem when I ran into Adrian. I ran with him back to the 104 bike path, or as it is better known today, the 104 ice path. I was right about 10-minute pace for that 2/3 of a mile, as it was tough going.

Zach's team dominated the Doug Miller team, who, although a year younger, is a regional team that beat them before. It must have been about 8 to 1.

Note

ATTENTION WEBSTER SCHROEDER RUNNERS!

Please check out the blog entry from Wednesday and spread the word. I'd like to bring an Orienteering team to the US Interscholastic Championships at West Point in April.

Swimming 37:49 [3] 1.14 mi (33:10 / mi)
rhr:43 slept:7.0

3:57/7:50
1:23,29,32,31,29,29,31,28,29 (on 1:40)
3:16,14 (on 3:45)

Had a very tight timeline, so I cut the workout a bit short. The first 100 was too fast, and I paid for it, because a guy a couple of lanes over started a 100 at the same time and I had to stay ahead of him.

There is no doubt that my swim training would be more intense if I wasn't doing the workouts alone.

Strength (Snow Shoveling) 30:00 [2]

A pretty deep layer of snow overnight, but it was nice and fluffy, so I was able to clear the entire driveway in a little over 30 minutes.

It felt pretty chilly this AM - my hands were feeling it. It turns out it was still only 4 degrees when I drove in to work.

Running 49:24 intensity: (10:11 @2) + (39:13 @3) 6.5 mi (7:36 / mi)
slept:5.75

I was going to do a marathon pace run on the treadmill, so I looked back at my log to figure out how far to go and discovered that I did not do a single MP workout in January. Not good. As it turns out, I got stuck at work and my time was limited by having to pick up Zach at 8pm from soccer, so I had 50 minutes to spend on the treadmill.

1 mi w/up (7.0->7.5 during first 1/2)
5.25 @ MP (8.0)
.25 w/dn, mostly at 7.5

Swimming 49:30 [3] 1.36 mi (36:24 / mi)
slept:6.0 weight:162lbs

3:50/7:42
1:22,22,24,26,27,27,28,25,26,27 (on 1:50)
3:22,17,15 (on 4)

The improvement continues! With just a little extra rest, I was able to average just over 1:25 on the 100s, for a record 10 of them. That was sandwiched between a pretty good 500 and decent pims.

Running 37:34 intensity: (36 @1) + (8:15 @2) + (7:39 @3) + (21:04 @4) 5.05 mi (7:26 / mi)
max:152 slept:7.0 weight:163lbs

OK, it's time to start getting serious. The Shamrock Run is just 4.5 weeks away, and that is followed quickly by the spring orienteering season, starting on March 27th.

So, today was the first of my tempo runs, on the treadmill:
1 mi w/up @7.0 to 7.5mph during first half
3 mi T @ 8.5 (21:04 total)
1 mi w/dn, some at 7.5, some at 8.0

The HR was measured during a 36 second (0.05 mile) span under 4mph, after the T run. 152 registered first and based on the trajectory, I think the real rate was just over 155.

Skiing (Double Pole) 25:49 [3] 3.5 mi (7:23 / mi)

Dropped Zach off for hockey practice, then went down the road to Willink to ski. As it turns out, the conditions were awful for skating. They had set 4 classic tracks, all too close together to skate between them. Plus the snow was WAY icy, so I was really unable to skate with any effectiveness. I did 7 laps:

4:49, 3:17, 3:00, 4:22, 3:32, 2:49, 3:57.

I tried skating on laps 1 & 4 (and some on 7), the rest was double-poling. I really went after the 6th lap and popped a pretty good time. Not good ski training, but probably good prep for the ski-o at Webster Park (if there is snow left on Sunday).

Swimming 48:47 [3] 1.42 mi (34:22 / mi)
slept:8.0 weight:162lbs

3:59/7:54
1:25,29,27,30,30,29,29,29,28 (on 1:40)
3:25,25,21

Weight is an average - home said 160.5, but the battery was low; Y said 163.5, but that was post-donut+

Hashing 53:50 [2] 4.49 mi (12:00 / mi)

From Piano Works plaza. Nice mix of snow-covered terrain and roads. At the halt there was a garbage bag completely buried in the snow that I was able to locate.
