Running 31:00 [2] 3.65 mi (8:30 / mi)
slept:5.25

Hosted the first meeting of the Webster Orienteering Team - surprisingly, given the late announcement, 10 kids were able to make it. I went over some basics and then sent them out on a street map run. I went out separately and met up with the two groups en route.

Orienteering 11:00 [3] 1.0 km (11:00 / km)

Drove over to EA for the BFLO Annual Meeting / A-Meet organization meeting. Walt and Patty had set up a little orienteering activity. I partnered with David Levine on a 4-control relay (the team alternated and brought the flag to the first control location, moved it to the others and back.

Running 34:00 [2] 3.78 mi (9:00 / mi)

Did some running around Emery Park after the orienteering activity. Walt and Brigid took off without me, so I looped the south, then the north, then found them as I started looping the south again.

Plenty of snow/ice covered roads, so it didn't much matter whether I was on the roads or in the fields.

Swimming 46:24 [3] 1.31 mi (35:25 / mi)
slept:4.5

3:51/7:45
1:27,30,31,32,32,32,31,32 (on 1:45)
3:23,22,20
golf: 80,81,82,79

Got up at 4:30 since Chris had to drive Nate to school by 5am to catch a bus. Went to work at 6, and still could not manage to make time for a break during lunch. My job(s) can fill up as much time as I make available. I did manage to get over to the Penfield Y just after 5, and the pool had a lane open, so I could get a swim done before Luke's hockey tournament game at Thomas Creek (followed by Zach's 9:15pm soccer game in Webster).

A poor coaching decision at the end of Zach's soccer game: this is just a 4-team league with 3 weeks round-robin play followed by 2 weeks of playoffs. Zach's team had already clinched first going into this game. They led 3-1, until the other team scored with just over a minute remaining in the game. The coach pulled a defensive player off the field, in favor of his son. This after subbing methodically every ten minutes throughout the game. Definitely a poor move with negative consequences all around at a meaningless point in a meaningless game.

Strange, since he has been an excellent coach over the past 4 or 5 years, and even won some NYS West coaching award last year.

I have to remind myself how visible coaches' actions are.

ANNOUNCEMENT FOR PROSPECTIVE SCHROEDER ORIENTEERS

Some of you have expressed interest in orienteering, either recreationally, or as part of the Webster team that will go to West Point in April, to compete in the US Interscholastic Championships.

This Saturday, February 28th, I will host the first meeting of the ?Webster Orienteering Club?. It will be at our house from 8:30 (sharp)-10am. We will cover some basic orienteering techniques and get in a short run.

Since this is late notice, I ask that you help spread the word.

If you can?t make this meeting, but are interested in orienteering, send me a note and I?ll be sure to include you in future sessions.

And to all of you, I hope you are looking forward to the start of Outdoor Track as much as I am!

Running 44:07 intensity: (20:00 @2) + (14:07 @3) + (10:00 @4) 5.8 mi (7:36 / mi)
slept:7.25 weight:163lbs

Had to get Luke to hockey practice at 5, and he almost made it - at the rink at 4:57, dressed and on the ice at 5:02.

Ran during his practice. Did 10 minutes easy, then 5 x (2 min hard; 2 min easy) and 14 minutes moderate. Mostly on the 104 path, like this.

Great evening for a run in shorts, but gloves would not have hurt.

Crosstrainer 30:00 [3] 3.93 mi (7:38 / mi)
max:145 slept:5.75

Jumped on a machine at the Penfield Y after dropping Nate off for hockey practice at Village Sports (it turns out they had as many coaches and players from other teams as they did players from Nate's team - 2 of each - so I could have played some 3-on-3 if I had my stuff).

Did 3 x (5 minutes at level 12, 5 minutes at level 15 with 2nd and 4th minutes hard), except last 5 minutes was level 17. Seemed to be a pretty good workout.

Biking 10:00 [3] 4.0 mi (2:30 / mi)
ahr:129 max:145

Random Hills-15 @ 84rpm

Nate's practice was only listed as 40 minutes, so I figured I only had 10 minutes available for biking, so I ratcheted it up to level 15. It turns out they had more time, so I could have stayed a couple of minutes longer, but it was a nice change of pace to have a short session that was more intense than usual.

Note
slept:6.0 (rest day)

Calendar got juggled on the fly, preventing a workout before 4pm, and by 4:50 I had to leave for the Sabres game. They seem to win when I can't make it and lose when I can. They should pay me to stay home.

Running 30:25 [2] 3.63 mi (8:22 / mi)
slept:8.5 weight:159lbs

Easy run in an attempt to recover from the weekend warrior training plan.

I ran this route, which took me past Lonsberry broadcasting from his new digs at the corner of Main and State. He did give a wave to me as I went by.

Biking 32:00 [2] 12.0 mi (2:40 / mi)
ahr:113 max:138

21 min Random Hills-12 @ 94; 2 min w/dn-10
7 min Manual-11/12 @ 89; 2 min w/dn-10

Swimming 37:15 [3] 1.08 mi (34:30 / mi)

4:02/8:13
1:27,31,32,32,32,32,32 (on 1:50)
3:25,25

My arms were fried from yesterday's skiing, so I just coasted thru this workout.

Hashing 38:00 [2] 3.8 mi (10:00 / mi)

RH3 from Genesee Valley Park.

Looped around both sides of the river, N and S of our starting point (the Roundhouse parking area).

Hockey 25:00 [2]

The hash included a stop at the Genesee Valley rink for some skating. Called it Hockey because I didn't want to create a new category for something I'm only going to do once.
