Running 1:10:32 [2] 8.3 mi (8:30 / mi)
slept:6.25

Ran with Zach again, this time from MIT. I figured I had to do one of the big 3 routes from back in the day. Fresh Pond is no good unless you are going around it to make it 10 and Chestnut Hill is the same sort of deal (the 8-mile option does not go around the reservoir, so Jamaica Pond it was.

As the route shows, we missed it to the left and had to run backwards around the pond to keep it close to 8 miles.

Running 29:50 [2] 3.81 mi (7:50 / mi)
slept:5.75

Easy run with Zach in Cambridge. Across the Harvard bridge and along the esplanade until we hit a dead end and had to backtrack a bit to over to the edge of Storrow drive. They appeared to be setting up for a concert at the shell. We came back the Longfellow bridge to Baker.

Note
slept:7.5 (rest day)

Took the day off. I had to drive home from the Poconos to pick up Chelsea and return to the Poconos. I was going to do something while home, but the lawn was not mowed and then I couldn't get the lawn mower started (but bent the garage door sensor while trying, and had to fix that).

Orienteering 57:03 [2] 4.0 km (14:16 / km)
slept:8.5

Just about everyone was going off to ride horses, at a place right near the Rt 940 turn off for Hickory Run, so I grabbed the old Motala map from the Sprint Series final weekend (I think) and dropped one carload off on the way.

I had no trouble with the first control (I think it was the GGGG variation), but could not find C2, then couldn't even relocate, so I cruised back down to the creek (200m away) and started back up towards C3, when I discovered that the map must be 1:15, not 1:10. Got C3, but missed C4 - I could not find any rough open near the creek. By that time I had to start heading back, so I angled thru some rough stuff and tracked down C8 and C9.

Running 47:00 [2] 5.37 mi (8:45 / mi)

A double-run day!

Ran with Zach from the edge of the Lake Arrowhead grounds. We ran out to the old rail trail, north to the first eastern trail and worked our way down to Brady Lake and to the dam. Coming back, we took a gamble and went a different route that brought us out to the rail trail, perhaps a half mile south of the access trail.

Then we did 6 strides.

Running 39:34 [2] 4.52 mi (8:45 / mi)
slept:6.5

Ran with Zach again. We just ran around near the cabin. We went by Chockataw pool, but by the time we got there, the thunder had started, so we couldn't stop in for a dip.

We were going to run 35 minutes, but managed to lose track of where in the labyrinth we were and went a few minutes over.

Running 43:20 [2] 4.82 mi (9:00 / mi)
slept:6.0

Ran with Zach. Chris dropped us at the trail leading to the State Game Lands (we weren't sure ahead of time whether we were allowed to park there - I think we can).

We went to the main trail (an old rail bed?) and ran north until it was about time to turn around, then cut in to a side trail. We got off the main trail and lost the small trail, drifting too far south, but recovered.

Out for 21:18, back to the first gate in 3:43, back to the creek crossing in 5:53 and back to the dirt road in 12:24.

Orienteering race 45:14 [4] 5.0 km (9:03 / km)

ROC Motala at Durand Eastman Park.

Nate is in Italy, feet is in CT and Rob H set the course, so the door was wide open and I managed to get in. Rob S and ccsteve were within 5 minutes. I was nervous on the last loop because they had gone out just before and just after me, respectively. They were both on my first loop which was 1.5k and I had a 1.5k loop to do alone. As it turns out, my loop was much easier (and one could run closer to the line on my loop), so my 300m+ hard uphill run on the road was overkill.

Splits (so I don't lose them before I figure out which one I missed - probably on loop D, when I was trying to catch Steve):
C - 4:40 6:44 7:55 10:29 12:43 15:52
A - 17:52 19:25 20:48 23:24 26:44
D - 28:24 30:50 32:34 34:02 36:59
B - 37:58 40:22 41:43 42:39 45:17

Running warm up/down 12:00 [2] 1.33 mi (9:00 / mi)

Just a couple of minute before the Motala and then picked up 5 controls for a w/dn.
