ROC Sprint Series race #2 at Seneca Park.

Very light turnout for the sprint, which is too bad because it was an excellent course - much better than the Score-O. I started about a minute behind Chelsea, who was perhaps a minute behind Zach. I caught her leaving C2 and got ahead, but she picked the better route choice (short connecting trail vs thru some medium green) and almost caught me. I got within sight of Zach around C6 and passed him leaving C8, I think. I was attempting to head down the serious gully leaving C9, when Z ran around behind me and I gave up on the descent (not sure the ascent would have been possible on the other side).

I passed Zach again after another couple controls and was able to pull away, despite a couple of bobbles (one was on the leg that was supposed to go thru registration, the other was a poor line going toward the road to C17).

The Schirminator was in town, but he left the door open with a 2-minute error, but I am so slow these days that he still beat me by 1:45. Ouch.

ROC Score-O at Seneca Park.

Spiked is an estimate. Most of the non-spikes were early on, mostly just hesitations that were long enough for Peter Dady to keep getting close to me.

Score-O was well-done for such a long and narrow park, but not as interesting as the Sprint. With the Schirminator in town and Rob going around the course with his kids, 2nd was a foregone conclusion, but I should have been much closer to Erin that to Peter, especially since Erin did the 60-minute Score-O in under 30 minutes, except he had to go back to a control that he missed for one that was ("illegally"?) too close to another.

I haven't been on maps enough lately. I think it is time to organize some Warrior O training sessions - probably doable with nate back in town.

Easy run from Thomas during [part of] Zach's off-ice workout - included a trip past the old Joylene Dr residence. Our little pine tree has become quite large and is doing its job of providing backyard privacy.

Still tough going with the chest congestion. Had to really press on the second half of the 500 to avoid deterioration.

XC Camp - started out with Joe W, Patrick, Arjun and James. We were doing a fartlek workout, with each of them supposed to lead twice for 4 minutes, with a total of 90 seconds at a faster pace in each segment. James dropped back, so I circled back a few times to make sure he was headed the right way, but during one period of less than two minutes, he disappeared. I tried to guess his potential direction and criss-crossed the trails, but couldn't find him. With thunder rumbling in and the workout time ending, I headed back. He wasn't there...

Easy run - Beacon Hills loop, back via Middleton. Legs were very heavy - perhaps it was just my not being used to running in the heat. Only had time for 3 after the hot water tank was replaced and before Luke's hockey party.

The cold lingers on and made for a tough swim.

Note

I was supposed to be running during XC camp, but I had a financial review run late at work, so I didn't bother changing to run, which turned out to be a good idea, since the thunderstorms rolled in and we had to cancel camp after about 30 minutes.

Meanwhile, at home, our hot water tank had ruptured and soaked our carpet in the basement, which made for a long clean-up process. Luckily, Wilbur happened to be in town and was quite a help.

So, Chelsea missing her bus in New Jersey to Newark, and having to take another bus to intercept her train in NYC, turned out to be small potatoes.

And it turns out that our high-efficiency water heater needs a $1350 replacement, not the $850 they thought at first. $&%*@%!

Got up a bit after 3 to watch for Nate's results at O-Ringen, but the results weren't working when he would have finished, so we just saw the time climb and climb, until the repaired the site. It looks like he lost over 10 minutes on the first control, but was pretty reasonable after that. Not as good as his 7th place finish on Etapp 1.

I had a small window to swim during lunch, but didn't get it done.

Frustrating night of golf - it could have been a good round, but I 3-putted for bogey 3 times and wound up with a 42.

In between Zach's two soccer games, the second being the finals, which they won, 3-1! And in the first, Zach scored the winning goal in a 2-0 game.

Ran along the canal in Brockport, from the Diner west to the out of service bridge, then east to the Sweden Walker Rd overpass and back to the diner.

Did 5 or 6 1-minute light pickups on the way out and 2 2-minute pickups on the way back (a little harder), plus kicked it in a bit after waiting for the main liftbridge to come down.
