Running 55:00 [3] 7.33 mi (7:30 / mi)
slept:7.0

Running around during 7 of the 10 State Meet races. Just watched Boys C from one spot, sat out Girls D to get dry clothes on, and only watched the start of Girls C.

Nico ran AA, which was the second race, so we only had one race to scout out the best viewing strategy. The officials were relatively lenient with the spectating, so moving around was not a problem. Nico had a nice race, finishing 47th.

Section V was outstanding in Boys A and Boys B (where the young EA team got smoked) - that was a good indicator of just how strong the Monroe County league is, and makes me quite proud of the boys for racking up a 19-4 record this year (which required defeating 5 state-ranked teams).

F-M girls were unreal - sweeping the top 5 spots of the AA race is simply incredible, especially considering the #3 team in the country was also in the race!

The EA girls looked quite good in winning the B race again.

Running 51:38 [3] 6.6 mi (7:49 / mi)
slept:8.0

Ran this loop with nate, looking for the XC course at SUNY Plattsburgh for tomorrow's State Meet.

Then we found the XC course:

2009 NY State XC Champs Course

Map your trip with EveryTrail

and ran it with the East Aurora teams. We saw Nico partway thru, so he ran with us for a bit.

Running 24:00 [2] 3.0 mi (8:00 / mi)
slept:6.5

Ran around Plattsburgh for a bit, while nate ordered a pizza for us. I came across a street called Couch St, which sounded familiar, so I ran the length of it. Tim confirmed that was the street we lived on until I was about 4. I still have this vague memory of playing with trains on the sidewalk in front of a yellow house next to a small hill. Not sure if the house is still yellow, though.

Map Run 1:00:44 [2] 7.15 mi (8:30 / mi)
slept:6.75

Stopped at Black Creek for a run on the way to the Sabres game. I had printed off a 1:10 version of the map, which meant 4 separate pages, but I could read it. It looks like the map attempted to be accurate many years ago, but now most of the rough open is now all overgrown and the patches of woods that are usable are different than they were at mapping time.

I had thought that there might be enough interesting white-ish woods to have a nice Long course, but that doesn't seem to be true after having a chance to visit the eastern and southern parts of the map. There are sections that are fun to run, but there is a whole lot of trail running with no route choice to get between the sections.

Anyway, it is still a fun place to run (since we are way past FDF season).

slept:6.75 weight:155.5lbs (rest day)

Nearly 13 hour workday meant it was easy to take a day off in the name of tapering - the marathon is just 12 days away.

Running 34:35 [2] 4.0 mi (8:39 / mi)
slept:7.0

Running from home - seemed very strange, since it has been awhile. Did the old Plank-5 Mile-Beacon Hills loop.

Legs were pretty sore from yesterday (quads especially). It was reminiscent of the time, many years ago, when I went to Letchworth with a bunch of folks and I was in very good running shape, but my legs still got beat up by just walking around.
