Orienteering race 45:30 [3] *** 4.14 mi (11:00 / mi)
spiked:22/25c

Scrooge-O at Brighton Town Park. I think I got scrooged 5 times. There were 4 scrooges, which I think was too many for such a small park, especially with the narrow trail to get around the pond, which meant the scrooges spent a fair amount of time congregating there. So, I just decided to run around to the controls and if I got scrooged, just continue on until I found someone else, and not worry about getting all the punches onto one card. Got scrooged once on the way in, so I had to scrooge someone else, which put me just overtime, and I got scrooged coming in OVT anyway. I visited all but 4 controls, but I visited 5 controls twice.

Running 45:00 [2] 5.65 mi (7:58 / mi)
slept:5.5

A tour of the village of EA after dark. Felt much better than my last run, a few days ago.

In town after Zach and Luke's hockey tourney games (2 each) in Niagara Falls. Zach beat Canada once!

Note
(rest day)

I had no intention of taking today off, but whining from the development team on one of my projects made it so I could not sneak away for an hour at lunchtime. This after 12 hours at work yesterday, plus over an hour more at home last night.

Work from before 8 to almost 8.

Running 49:01 [2] 5.82 mi (8:25 / mi)
slept:5.75

Did the UR Ped Bridge loop. With all of the construction finally wrapped up along the river, and no detours remaining, the 6-mile loop must be a little short, since I ran the first 2.5 at exactly 8:25 pace, and I don't think I picked it up on the way back (although the wind was more favorable coming back).

Took splits at:
5:24 - the river path entrance on South
9:04 - to the old mile start
8:25 - for the old mile
3:46 - to the river path entrance on the west side
17:02 - to the river path entrance at Court
5:18 - back to the Y

slept:8.0

4:10/8:30
1:35,36,37,36,37
3:39,41

That answers the question as to how much of the slowness last week was the marathon versus the 3-month layoff. I have some work to do.

Orienteering 42:38 [2] 3.55 km (12:00 / km)
slept:6.75

Followed Zach around the Map Hike 2009 course at Emery Park before the Bills game. We did the 8 southern controls plus 2 on the north side on the way back to the car. We did not find the marker at the end of the stream in the southeast part of the park, even though we looked for a bit at the two places where the stream conceivably ended (things were wet, so it was a tough call). And one control was in a particularly nasty spot - edge of a poorly-defined marsh, with a wedge-shaped white area that we thought would be a decent approach, but was not nearly white in real life.
