Running 24:16 [2] 3.0 mi (8:05 / mi)

What a meet!

I wanted to get a few stretches of running accomplished during Sectionals today, but after an early run, before the 4x4, things were too exciting to leave the track for any extended time.

We came into the meet 11 point underdogs to Edison, the three-time defending champions, but when all the puts and takes had happened, we had tied for the win at 91. nate was a +6 point swing, seeded 8th, he placed 3rd in the 3200 in 9:55, in windy and very warm conditions. At the time, that put us in a favorable position, but we were -9 in the 800. Edison's pent guy was DQ'd for tossing a girls shot put during that event, and we went into the last event, the 4x8, down by 8. Our guys ran great and won by over 5 seconds, but Edison beat Thomas and Penfield to grab two points and tie things up.

Running 32:00 [2] 3.88 mi (8:15 / mi)
slept:6.0

Easy run after practice. Did a loop through the old neighborhood with a brief Hojack / side trail detour and cut thru the St. Paul's woods to Willink for a lap of the woods. When I finished, Thomas was ahead of East by about 15-1 in the 4th inning of their sectional game.

Our Sectionals are tomorrow!

Running 57:25 [3] 7.42 mi (7:44 / mi)
slept:5.75

Got in another GTA run, with Erik, Frank, DV, JV, G2. A little over 30 minutes in, I fell back just a bit, but it was enough that they disappeared on the trail west of East St - apparently up to Knickerbocker. I popped out on East to 96 to Crestview, where I ran 2 minutes fairly hard and still had more hill to climb. After I ran down the hill on Stone and approached Tobey, I saw them in the distance. I managed to stay 50 seconds behind for the final climb.

Running 19:27 intensity: (11:57 @2) + (2:30 @4) + (5:00 @5) 2.75 mi (7:04 / mi)
slept:5.75

Ran a bit during the kids' cruise intervals. It was hot today, so I had them do 5 x 600m with about a minute of recovery. They went slightly faster than tempo, but seemed very comfortable doing it, so it's all good. Now it is time to just chill until Saturday!

Since they were doing 600s and I wanted to make sure they were aware of pace, I had to run the diagonal to give splits and the final time, so it was something like 3 x 130-140m during each interval. The first one was easy each time, but as the guys spread out, it got tougher (especially in the later intervals where Adam was starting to fade just a bit.

Running 28:19 [2] 3.15 mi (9:00 / mi)

Not enough running during practice, so on the way home I parked at the Y and did some jogging in the Abe. Hillier than I wanted to do the evening before trying to hit GTA again, but it's time to go big.

slept:6.0 weight:161.5lbs (rest day)

Yet another day off. Worked past 6:30 and I had promised Luke that I would work some pitching with him. By then it was past time to eat.

Time to get serious about training, if the western trip is going to be worthwhile.

Running 22:30 [2] 3.0 mi (7:30 / mi)

Had to talk strategy with Coach Klehr during the kids w/up, so my "run" was just a combination of quick runs along the diagonal timing 200s and some easy laps between the guys' intervals (2 laps after the 400, 1 lap between the 200s).

I had them do the 4-minute mile workout today, but scaled it back just a bit since the quickest guys are nursing injuries and the quick guys have their big meet this Saturday. AJ did 400, 4x200, 400. Nico did 400, 2x200, 400, 2x200. Everyone else did 400, 6x200. AJ and Nico went 55+ on the first, AJ went 54.2 on the last. Just about everyone seemed to be under 30 on the 200s, with AJ and Nico tossing in some 25s and 26s. Overall, Geoff, Adrian and Ben were several seconds under 4 and Steve was several seconds ahead of them. Even Justin R was probably just a few seconds over.

Golfing 9:00 [1]

Legs quite tight from yesterday. I'm sure that contributed to my opening with a quad (9) tonight. I did manage to par 3, but drove into the pond on 4. Made pars on 6 and 7, but hit into the creek on 8 for an 8, before rallying with a birdie on 9, where my partner made par and we lost the hole - best ball and team, since the opponents made 3 and 5 and were each getting a stroke.

Billygoat at Mt. Tom in Holyoke, MA.

Walt and Patty also traveled with nate and Luke, so we had six family finishers, also a Billygoat record!

Tough course, physically, with lots of climb, but the navigation was only tough on a few early legs.

Luke was the highlight of the day, becoming the youngest finisher in history, with a surprising 15 minutes to spare.

I toured the course with Zach who, unfortunately, developed sore feet, presumably from the rocky ground, before the halfway point, so it became nearly impossible for him to run. We were in decent position at the manned station, but had to walk almost all of the rest, which was too bad, since we could have made great time on the trails from 17 to the finish. Luke gained 15 minutes on us in the second half.

Chelsea got a ride to the meet from Barb and Dave, but chose to sit out the Gruff, with her best excuse being that her Crew coach would kill her if she got hurt two weeks before Nationals.
