Golfing 18:00 [1]

Coogan Reunion golf tournament at Byrncliff. Played with Sue, Wilbur and Coff, and our team's performance seemed to be highly correlated with mine. Two teams tied for the win at -5, with only 1 bogey between them. Meanwhile, we had an eagle (nice putt, Wilbur) and 5 birdies, but 5 bogeys as well - mostly when my drives were unusable (and sometimes had to be used anyway).

Other Sports 2:00:00 [2]

Coogan Reunion tennis tournament and Brigid's house. Wilbur disappeared and Coop needed a partner, so I agreed to play, even though my only footwear was my topsiders.

We won the first round without much trouble, then had a real nice match against Zack and Jim to make the finals. We were no match for Dr. Love in the finals and lost in two sets.

Orienteering 1:57:56 [2] 10.0 km (11:48 / km)

BFLO Map Hike course at Emery Park. Ran around and located "all 24" controls. The "all 24" derives from two points. First, I am used to ROC Score-O events that often have 24 controls, so even though I went to 25 first (or because of that?), I was thinking there were 24 controls. When I got back and retraced my route, I realized I had never gone to 17, so I drove from the lot at the top of the ski hill to the lodge near 17 that I had run very close to on the way in, and walked down to 17 and back. So, that would have been 25 controls, except:

I never found C11. Like David, I attacked from two very easy attack points (the shelter and the stream/road junction), got to almost the exact same location both times, but no marker. I spent an extra 15 minutes trying to skirt around things that could be considered "forest boundary", but came up empty. It is probably missing.

I didn't know that Emery Park was a place for guys to hookup, but had an unpleasant surprise going past the shelter parking lot on the way from C8 to C4.

I don't have the map, so I'll have to add the route later. The splits were:
1:16
3:44
4:29
4:02
7:30
7:21
3:38
3:04
10:11
20:34 (this was C11)
4:29
2:25
4:56
3:20
2:02
4:26
3:34
3:33
2:51
1:36
1:40
3:04
5:30
2:48
2:53
(3:00 of walking to and from C17 - and David is right, it is one bend too far downhill, probably about 25-30m off)

Note
(injured) (rest day)

Calf made today a no-go. Staying out with the boys until 3AM after the Mud Run didn't help the motivation for x-training, nor did arriving home at 8pm, hungry.

At camp today, the clinic was on Reps, so the troops did 8x400 on the tennis court loop (6 for folks going over 1:45).

Running race 26:22 [4] 6.0 km (4:24 / km)
(injured)

The Mud Run in Boston, NY.

My calf was an issue, especially on the hills in the second half, so I just tried to make sure I could finish without serious damage. That resulted in my slowest time ever (with the possible exception of 2005, when I ran with nate and they had no times).

Record turnout for the Lyons family, with 17 finishers (18 entrants, but Huntz sprained his ankle at Hunter's Creek over the weekend) and one wussy Wilbur.

I caught Zach on the long downhill and he wasn't able to go with me. I caught Scott Knapp in the final stretch - first time I've ever beaten him. But Tim was 37 seconds ahead of me and I was 27 seconds slower than last year, despite much, much better conditions this year.

Running warm up/down 10:00 [2] 1.0 mi (10:00 / mi)

Wandered and jogged part of the course with the boys ahead of time.

Note
(injured) (rest day)

No point in trying to do anything today, with the hopes of finishing the Mud Run tomorrow.
