Running 54:10 [2] 6.61 mi (8:12 / mi)
(sick)

Went for a run from the Cheektowaga Ice Rink after dropping Luke off for his game. Ran through some rather ugly Buffalo neighborhoods - here is the route.

Planned on running for an hour, but when the display on my new watch went blank (just after 50 minutes), and I was back near the park, I just headed in.

Luke's game was quite exciting, ending in a 4-4 tie. Luke was the victim of bad ice on their first goal - he skated behind his own net and the puck stopped in a puddle of water left by the zamboni and the other team picked it up and scored. But he more than made up for it with his play in the rest of the game.

GTA - 9 of us there - here is the route.

Started out nice and easy. Picked it up quite a bit when we turned off the canal path onto the other path. Just slight snow cover, but enough to make the effort harder than the pace. At French Rd I had to tie my shoe, so I fell back about 25 seconds. I worked hard and closed the gap a bit, then caught them at Pittsford Plaza, but I was done. When they picked it up again after crossing Monroe, I could not respond. They waited a bit at the end of the trail, but took off again up 64 and Scott and I were dropped for good.

Running intervals (Gerbil) 45:54 intensity: (23:40 @2) + (1:42 @3) + (20:32 @4) 6.0 mi (7:39 / mi)

First Tuesday "speed" workout of the year. I have no specific marathon plans, but I would like to run one in 2011, to qualify for Boston 2012, since I was shut out in 2010 and 2011, after qualifying. I found the Hanson's marathon training plan in January's Runners' World intriguing - it has a great deal of similarity to my old marathon training plans - no runs over 18 miles, strong focus on the second-longest run of the week at marathon pace, and a "speed" session each week. It is an 18-week plan and I'd like to run the Pittsburgh half-marathon, if nate can wait until the weekend to get picked up from school, then perhaps springboard to a marathon shortly after that.

Regardless of all that, I can at least try to get in reasonable shape for the Buffalo Shamrock Run.

Running 23:45 [2] 3.0 mi (7:55 / mi)
(sick)

Easy run on the treadmill at Bayview. Feeling quite a bit better than yesterday, but not that great.

Erging 8:28 [3] 2.0 km (4:14 / km)

WIth Chelsea in Florida for preseason training, I had to jump on the erg. Just did a 2K, since I need to start the Tuesday intervals tomorrow.
2:12.7 at 22-23
4:22.4 (2:09.7) at 24-25
6:30.0 (2:07.6) at 26-27
8:28.0 (1:58.0) at 28+

I was worried my back would act up, as it had been aching since the ski outing, but it was fine.

Note
(sick) (rest day)

No way I could run today. Even if running is good for a cold.
