Running 1:02:20 [2] 6.93 mi (9:00 / mi)

Went to Hobart to catch the indoor track meet. Caught the 4x8 relays (the girls relay was 3 soccer players and Natalie), before heading out for a run, mostly along Seneca Lake. The wind was coming just about straight out of the south, so it was flying up the lake (which looked more like a Great Lake with the whitecaps, than a Finger Lake). My right side was just about frozen when it was time to turn around and freeze my left side.

The trail by the lake was mostly just covered with a small amount of snow (sometimes ice), with occasional drifts, so the footing and the wind made the overall pace quite slow, but at least I was out for an hour.

Got back in time to see most of the 3200, the 600 and the 1000. Lots of great performances, with Val sticking with Shalyn Tuite the whole way to run 3:02 (and Annelise recording a nice PR). AJ won the 1000 by a ton in about 2:35. Afroless Thunder ran an outstanding race to win his heat, and Alex was not far back.

Strength (Snow Shoveling) 8:00 [2]

Enough snow today that I felt I had to clear the driveway, but it was relatively easy going since the plow did not feel a need to clear the roads in our neighborhood.

Back is sore, but not from/while shoveling, which I can feel a bit in my lower back, while the pain is in my mid-back. It made the start of my run tough again today as it limited my breathing early on and forced me to shuffle more than I usually do.

Erased my watch, so the total time is rounded and the 500 splits are from my own poor memory.

Note
(rest day)

Brought running and swimming stuff to work, but had no time during lunch, so I decided that my back was sore enough to justify a day off, since I was headed to the Sabres game right from work.

Back is sore, on top of the continued sinus infection. Add in a chilly wind from the east and not a fun run.

Running intervals 47:28 intensity: (26:50 @2) + (20:38 @4) 6.0 mi (7:55 / mi)
(sick)

Week 2 of speed work. Did 400, 800, 1200, 1200, 800, 400 - 400 recovery between each. This was tougher than last week - not sure how much is the cold/possible sinus infection that I can't shake and how much was the dehydration I had going on and how much was the upped effort over the last week. I started at 8.7mph, but on the second 1200 I had some anxiety kick in and I backed off to 8.5 after 1 lap, to convince myself to continue. Up to 8.6 for the 800 and 8.8 for the final 400.

1:42, 3:26, 5:08, 5:13, 3:28, 1:41 (avg recovery = 2:23)
