Orienteering race 41:49 [2] 2.71 mi (15:26 / mi) +14m 15:11 / mi

ROC Scrooge-O with Luke.

Twice Luke and I witnessed a Scrooge, but we never got one ourselves. The first time we sprinted away during the transition between scrooges, so we'd be "out of range" when it was done. The second time, there was nothing we could do - we were in a dead-end path, but the scrooge just ran back to the main path with us and went to get someone else.

We visited C21, but somehow didn't punch. We decided not to go after C22 when we got C19, because there were too many people around and at least one had to have been a scrooge since that is such a easy spot to get people. We also had to skip C1 when coming out of the woods after C5 or whatever, because there seemed to be too many people near the building. That's when we just went out and back to C23, which we had skipped in our haste to avoid seeing the scrooge that we were running with again, thinking he wouldn't be so generous the next time.

We had fun trying to be stealthy, but I don't think it was possible to win on this course, without being scrooged, due to C21 and C22 being on the long narrow strip.

Orienteering race 16:11 [2]

This is roughly the first part of our route. Luke was wearing the Garmin, but didn't tell me until after several controls, then we turned it on. The timer started right away, but the track recording took a bit.

Running 39:29 [2] 4.28 mi (9:13 / mi) +55m 8:52 / mi

Easy run at Webster Park, just prior to picking Z up from Nordic practice.

Calves/achilles are still sore to walk on, but I had absolutely no trouble running.

Note
(rest day)

A meeting got scheduled for 12:30 (I should have declined), so I couldn't run at lunch. Went from work to the XC banquet, which was fun. It was great to see the kids again.

Swimming 36:19 [3] 0.91 mi (39:54 / mi)

Day 1 of swimming. Very sloppy and slow. Breaststroke kick is quite constrained, by the same limitations that I have getting over downed trees in the forest (lack of hip and groin flexibility). Maybe swimming can help.

Elliptical 35:00 intensity: (30:30 @2) + (4:30 @4) 4.03 mi (8:41 / mi)

Elliptical at Penfield Y during the first period of the Sabres game. Mostly pretty easy, but did 90-seconds pick-ups during the 3 commercials. HR stayed under 120 during easy parts and only got into the 130s on the hard parts. Started level 8, then tried 15, settled on 12.

Biking 12:00 [3] 3.5 mi (3:26 / mi)

Biking during the first intermission. Manual level 11, if I remember correctly. Only managed 87 RPMs and HR avg was in the 115 range.

Running 27:00 intensity: (22:15 @2) + (4:45 @4) 3.25 mi (8:18 / mi)

Treadmill during the second period of the Sabres game. 7mph for most, but did 3 x 90 seconds at 8.5mph during the commercials. Strangely, couldn't get HR below 140 after the first pickup, even though this seemed easier than the other two exercises.

Running 32:35 intensity: (28:35 @2) + (4:00 @4) 3.97 mi (8:13 / mi) +17m 8:06 / mi

Able to squeeze in a short run after getting home from work, and before having to get Z over to Thomas for WABO, and pick up Luke, etc.

Note
(rest day)

Very busy day, after arriving home just before midnight last night. I could have fit in a short run after 9am Mass, and before Luke's 10:50 hockey game (lost a tough one to Southtown, 3-1 after the buzzer-beating empty-netter than had the Southtown fans acting like they won the Stanley Cup), but didn't like the idea of no shower, followed by the drive to EA (3rd car I had in EA in 4 days), watching the Bills (starting almost 40 minutes behind on TiVo, catching up before the end), driving/riding to Pittsburgh with nate, then driving all the way home (mission accomplished by 12:45am or so).
