Thursday Dec 4

Running 53:41 [3] 7.16 mi (7:30 / mi)
slept:5.75
GTA, since it was my only likely chance this month (I'm going to the next two Wednesday night Sabres games and getting up before 5am is not fun after a late night, then it is Christmas and New Year's).

I tried to go to gmap and reproduce the route, but had to give up. I was not paying close enough attention to my surroundings and it was quite dark until we were almost done, so the switching between roads and connecting trails had me a bit confused. A few more runs down there will make it easier. So, the pace (and therefore the distance) is a guess. I stayed close the whole time, so the pace may have been a bit faster, but I think the darkness slowed folks down, as did the smaller group (just Erik, Frank, JV, Lawrence and Vinny).

Tuesday Dec 2

Note
(rest day)
No time to head to the Y during the day, and I had a "free" dinner at Mario's to attend after work - couldn't pass that up.

Monday Dec 1

Running 39:14 [2] 4.57 mi (8:34 / mi)
slept:6.5
Ran after dropping Zach off at hockey practice (dropping him off actually consisted of picking him up from track practice at Thomas and bringing him across the street to the rink). Just went out the back of the parking lot onto the 104 bike path for 20:15 and then back. That got me even with the U-Turn just before Bay Rd.

I was definitely hesitant going out in the dark. I was 9:06 pace over to Gravel Rd, about 8:36 turn the turn and picking it up a bit on the way back only got me to 8:17 pace to Maple and 8:04 pace from Maple to Gravel.

Sunday Nov 30

Orienteering 43:30 [2] 3.63 km (12:00 / km)
slept:7.5
Did the southern side of the Emery Park permanent course with Zach. Went a different order than last time (and the snow and ice chased us onto roads and trails more than we would have been), so the scenery and attacks were different this time. C2 is certainly missing, and we did not spot C4, although we didn't spend much time looking around.

Zach doesn't seem to like running uphill. And at the end, he didn't like running downhill, as he slipped on an ice patch less than 50m from the car, and went down hard.

Time is stop time (stopped the watch when we were stopped for various reasons).

Then it was off to the Miserable Bills game. Toronto can have them for the rest of the year.

Note
Front page of today's Buffalo News included this photo of me:

Well, me and a few other people, but I am clearly visible in my Webster XC T-shirt, about 25% of the way from left to right and about the 4th row back.
Orienteering 1:41:00 [2] 8.5 km (11:53 / km)
slept:8.5
What better way to recover from the Turkey Trot than to head out for some orienteering on the 2008 permanent course at Chestnut Ridge. There was enough snow and ice to make the slopes a bit treacherous, but still fun, and not too much snow to be a chore to plow thru the woods. And it was cold enough that stream crossings were best executed on rocks, but not so cold that splashing thru was a problem for long. And some snow fell occasionally, but not much wind, so it was pleasant.

Did 14, didn't notice 15, 18, 21, 22, 23, 24, 25 (didn't see the tag), 20, 19, 17, 16, 13, 12, 11. Started and finished from the former(?) rest room right at the main park entrance. I made a parallel error going to 25 and was one reentrant/stream to the east, but recovered and I think I found the correct boulder just west of the proper reentrant and not too far from the thick stuff, but didn't see the tag.

I was out about 1:48, but stopped the watch when I was stopped (to spot a tag, re-tie my sweats, etc.).

Hashing 45:00 [2] 1000.0 mi (3 / mi)
Scavenger Hunt Hash in Buffalo. We were out almost 90 minutes, but moving slowly or not at all about half the time.

We got killed by the winners, who collected a boatload of business cards and bar items (2 pts each, we got none), weren't afraid to be frisked by the police (15 pts) and had the most outrageous picture (10 bonus points), and timed the subway connection (10 or 15 pts).

But we took a nice look at the naval museum area and enjoyed jogging around downtown Buffalo.
