Running 31:45 [3]
(rest day)

30min jog to take a bit of a rest after the weekend, going fine untill my heart rate decided to have one of its tantrums. Realised something was wrong when I got to the top of Orakei and it was sitting at 60, despite just running up a 8min hill. Felt like crap, by the time I got home was feeling like I was going to topple over and it had dropped below my acceptable threshold (was about 38). had to spend the next 20 minutes with my feet in the air trying to get it back up to 50.

Probably tiredness and dehydration set it off- drank a litre of water and felt a bit better.

Orienteering race 1:47:00 [4] 8.8 km (12:10 / km)

Long W21E course! so long! in fact the longest course i think i have ever run, so that was fun haha. much cleaner race than yesterday, just found myself tiring in the last 20mins or so. a few stupid errors, the usual plus a 4min error on control four when i had a mind bomb and decided to run off 90 degrees in the wrong direction. Had run back to the control and try again.

Long led (to 7) through the coastal strip which was interesting. I slowed down quite a lot, because knew if I lost contact with the map it'd be difficult to re-locate. Got a bit worried at the end, but refound my place and the actual entry into the control site wasnt too bad

I was actually just happy to finish really, took me a while but hey it can only get better from here

Orienteering 25:00 [5] 3.1 km (8:04 / km)

Not sure of the actual timings but 25mins sounds about right.

Awesome relay course by Matt! Was more like a sprint relay with a whole lot of small legs in complex detail. Tessa and Cos were on my splits so we ended up running together the whole way (untill I fell over at the end and had to come in 30s after them haha).

Legs were dead after the morning run so that caused some wonderful trip ups by everyone

Orienteering race 1:37:00 [4] 8.1 km (11:59 / km)

First time running w21E! Interesting..

I was expecting a big step up in terms of the distance, but actually found it wasnt the distance or endurance that threw me today but the navigation! Several 4min mistakes on some of the controls and at times it just seemed like a never-ending mission. Lost a lot of my confidence and slowed way down.

Several times my bearings were completly off, I wasnt finding good lines out to the tracks and would waste time running back on myself.

On a more positive note- the 8km was entirely managable. Wasnt running fast at all though, but at least it felt ok!
