Event: QOC Manassas

12 PM

Orienteering (blue) 1:42:21 [3] 10.2 km (10:02 / km) +95m 9:35 / km
ahr:126 max:160 shoes: O' Icebuds 2014

Manassas. Windy in the 50's. My calf only felt a little tight at this point so I decided to do blue. Manassas is an open area with lots of fields and trails so it shouldn't have been too bad.
Unfortunately the map needs to be redone. The vegetation is not accurate, there are missing things all over the place. The courses didn't accommodate the map issues (the map should have been updated at least in the immediate control areas.

See my attackpoint race comments for full details.

walk 1:20 [1] 4.0 mi (20 / mi)

Long road work with Darcy. The walk helped stretch out my muscles.

Soccer (indoor) 35:00 [3]
shoes: Soccer Indoor Nike 2013 Mercer

My calf was still tight so I played easy. As a result I didn't play very well. We lost 7-9.

Leg felt better so I went for a run with a normal stride, Unfortunately it started tightening up again and got so bad that I actually stopped for a while and walked. Then I decided to just do a very slow jog home.

Run 8:29 [2] 0.72 mi (11:47 / mi)
shoes: reebok ZJET 2014

Slow Jog home.

Orienteering race (middle: Red) 47:56 [4] 4.5 km (10:39 / km) +250m 8:20 / km

I declared my self fit to run today so was looking forward to really running the course today. Unfortunately, the course had other ideas. I got beat up on the course. I was a late starter and the leaves were churned up from previous runners such that you couldn't see the footing. I twisted my ankle several times as a result. I was poked in the face and eyes numerous times by the small saplings that were everywhere.
The course was a sprint course that was a middle distance (with tons of climb). So many of the controls were so close together that you couldn't go wrong. Despite that I still made several mistakes (I did a 180 leaving the control which I haven't done in a long time). The annoying part was having to run around the olive green (out of bounds area) on the map that probably is an optic illusion given the close brown contours and the medium green (I.E. it wasn't out of bounds). I wasn't sure so took the trail around thinking it must have been some sort of sensitive area. I ended up loosing to someone by 1 second.
Overall, I was too exhausted by the climb to run hard. The saplings were doing everything they could to slow me down. I never got the rhythm of the course.
