Orienteering (wyoming) 1:14:00 [3] *** 8.2 km (9:01 / km)
ahr:137 max:151 spiked:15/18c shoes: Falcons 2018

Felt better today lung wise. Still not up to normal. Today the plan was to keep moving (not necessarily fast but to keep moving) and be clean.
Well, I couldn't keep moving and still had to walk a bunch. I was generally clean. I think most of my problems were hitting things hidden under the control circles/lines which through me off. Each time it caused me to pull up short.
Other than the circle issues, I liked the courses. I thought I did well but the faster people still outran me (when they were not making mistakes). This doesn't bode well for the remaining two courses as I am tired now.

Orienteering race (middle) 39:22 [4] *** 4.6 km (8:33 / km)
ahr:137 max:152 25c shoes: Falcons 2018

Middle Distance, Wyoming, Granite Planite.
I wanted this to be a good hard run as it was short and I hoped I could last for the distance. While I thought I was moving hard I guess I just wasn't moving that fast. Several controls I was off to the right and had to make some major adjustments. I lost substantial time on #11 and #12. I still thought I had done ok but looking at the results I just wasn't that fast.

Orienteering (wyoming) 1:03:03 [3] ** 6.8 km (9:16 / km)
ahr:138 max:150 shoes: addidas2016

one may cowboy relay. Everyone does multiple loops but the loops are in different order except the last one which everyone does the same.
I felt better lung/altitude wise today. I tried to keep a more even pace and keep moving but I still had to walk the uphills.
I was with Bill Cusworth much of the course even though we did the loops differently there were several common controls and I kept seeing Bill. He started just in front of me on the final loop and we ran together for awhile taking slightly different lines. He pulled up short one control and I got ahead of him only to then screw up the very next control and he passed me back. I finished 4th.

Orienteering (Wyoming) 54:47 [3] ** 7.7 km (7:07 / km)
spiked:14/14c shoes: O icebugs 2015

Out in Wyoming for week of orienteering. Today was just a fun run. Red course 7.7 K in wide open terrain. To make it easier it was a mass start. I didn't warm up any other than stretching. I guess I should have. My goal was to take it easy and get use to the altittude. I didn't want to burn out before the real orienteering starts later in the week.
I started off slow going up hill. I was one of the fastest out of the start so was just behind the leaders. They were running faster which was ok since I was taking it slow. I didn't get to far up the hill until I couldn't breathe and I was getting light headed. Not a good start. I stopped jogging and started walking. People were passing me left and right. I went from the front group to way back real quick.
The orienteering was very easy, especially with a line of people to follow. Eventually my body adjusted and I was just out of breath and not light headed. I proceeded to jog the down hills and walk most of the uphills. I was also passing back the people who passed me earlier. I still finished far back but was able to keep moving by the end. I had forgotten how dry the air is and my lungs are all dried out.

Orienteering (sprint) 11:57 [4] ** 2.17 km (5:30 / km)
spiked:15/15c

Pickup up controls from yesterday SQUIRRELNADO event. First park is Matthewstown Harmon/Joe Cannon Stadium. Did this on foot. Much less crowded today then yesterday.

Orienteering (sprint) 10:34 [3] ** 1.84 km (5:45 / km)
spiked:13/13c

Severn Danza park: I was already tired and slowing down. No football game. One control moved from the light pole by the football field.

Orienteering (sprint) 11:15 [3] *** 1.65 km (6:49 / km)
spiked:12/12c

SawMill Creek. I like this park. I cut through the woods on 2-3 but went around on 1-2. I had to look at the map as I couldn't remember which control was next.

Orienteering (bike) 13:11 [2] 3.25 km (4:03 / km)

Saw Mill Bike to Thomas Dixon Observatory. I tried to bike hard but was tired. I never really shifted to a higher gear.

Orienteering (sprint) 2:21 [4] *** 0.18 km (13:03 / km)
spiked:4/4c

Thomas Dixon Observatory. Short course. I put the bike down, took off the helmet and tried to run. I didn't feel like I was going very fast.

bike (road) 8:45 [3] 2.2 mi (3:59 / mi)

Bike back to Saw Mill. Same trail back but didn't have to stop for controls.

Orienteering (trail) 25:59 [3] *** 2.66 km (9:46 / km)
spiked:10/10c

Queenstown park. I did this on foot as I didn't want to deal with biking over the fallen trees. I took on bad route because I didn't read the fallen trees. It was tough to get by even on foot. Didn't get any chiggers.
Distance is much longer by trail. Traveled 2.12 miles

Orienteering (sprint) 13:29 [3] ** 1.46 km (9:14 / km)
spiked:12/13c

Jessup Dory Park:
I was a little slow on first woods control

Orienteering (sprint) 2:26 [3] * 0.46 km (5:17 / km)
spiked:4/4c

Jessup Park. Another very short course. I just couldn't run hard by this point.

Orienteering (sprint) 12:13 [3] *** 1.83 km (6:41 / km)
spiked:11/11c

Ft Meade High School/Middle SChool. The three hour time limit expired before I could get any controls. I was hoping to get at least one control but before I could get out of the car the time expired.
Since the time expired, and I was so tired I could not run anymore. My thighs were starting to cramp up if I tried running. I ended up walking a lot with some jogging in between.

Note

Took a break at this point. Went and got a giant slurpee and went home to recover some. Later went back out with Darcy.
4 PM

Orienteering (bike) 1:16:41 [2] 10.18 mi (7:32 / mi)

Bike from house to Joe Cannon Stadium with Darcy. Then did the course picking up control. Thigh so tired.
5 PM

Orienteering 54:16 [1] *** 2.29 mi (23:42 / mi)

Walked up to the CVS with Darcy. Then I went and picked up the Meade woods course. Darcy walked back home.
Last of the control all picked up. The first control and stand was stolen. I tried to pick it up earlier this morning but it was gone.
