Orienteering (bumble-red) 1:58:09 [3] 9.75 mi (12:07 / mi)
ahr:144 max:164 shoes: VJ Falcons 2019

154K Blue bumble was too long so I did the Red bumble and still went 14K.

I had trouble right out of the start. I couldn't find the start triangle. When I finally did I was already behind Victor who started with me. i had to run wide to pass victor.
My plan was to do JHFGI DBCAE PQRTS UXYVW with the option of doing the last window if the felt like it to get to a blue.

That plan was lasted all to the first control. I was heading to J and couldn't make any sense of the map. The whole area was flooded so I couldn't tell what the streams were. I saw a lot of extra rock so wasn't sure where I was. It was also very slow going getting through the thorns and down debris. Turns out I was right were I thought I was but I didn't see the control or the dot knolls. Rather than spend a lot of time looking I decided to just head to the far window. I still couldn't read the map and was having a serious trouble with map not being top of the map. I looked for the streams but couldn't tell where they were. I cut across the open fields and then fought my way across the green. When I hit the road I ran to the little bridge crossing and thought I was at the big one. I cut into the green. When I saw the big stream I realized my error and went back to the road.. This time I went to the correct bridge and cut in. Area was bland and there was nothing to navigate by. I overshot. Eventually I found a control. Still couldn't may any sense of the features. It took me 19 minutes to get my first control.
I see now that what I thought were 5 meter contours are really form lines. That explains why I couldn't read the subtle terrain as I was looking for bigger features that didn't exist.
Decided to just take bearings and pace count since the map didn't make sense. I was off on B but saw the control. I was off on A but saw the control. Hit C fine and was able to start reading the rock wall area. Straight to E. This whole window had a lot of thorns and was very slow. I had already decided the stream was crossable and I would just wade across. I did.
Fought my way through green to get to I. Decided to take the road to G. I thought I cut into the intermittent trail but it wasn't. Fought my way through more thorns to get to the trail. Control circle hid the contours so I misinterpreted what I was looking for. I got off and it took me a while to figure out where I was. Went to G. on the way to F,these green woods were a lot more open than the other "white" woods. over to F then H. J to N. The power line towers didn't look like they were in the correct spot. I cut into what was open scattered trees and got stuck in thorns Made it through the thorns was was way right and had to cut back. Hard to read the trails and there were thorns growing in the trails. left the trails and left the thorns. Green area between M and K was one of the most open on the map.

After O I had planed to cut to S but then saw you couldn't run along the road. I wasn't sure if there was room between the road and fence but decided it was out of bound to went a lot way around the out of bound area.
At this point I was dead tired. I had nothing left to run. Open course was easy. until the end. On the way to the go control, I ran by the control at building and saw it was the finish control. So I pushed the go control and ran back to the control and punched it. Then I started walking away back to the download. That is when I realized there was no finish sign on my control. I looked at the map and saw the actual finish was across the parking lot. I had run by it twice. There was no control on it so I didn't even know it.

So overall, I ran a really bad route, got stuck in thorn numerous time and my legs are like pincushions, couldn't read the map, and got dead tired. would have been better doing blue then I would have run a better route and run about the same distance.
