Orienteering (beer chase.) 1:26:51 [3] ** 8.7 km (9:59 / km)
shoes: VJ Falcons 2021

It was hot. I was sweating before starting. I drank a whole gatorade before starting (instead of just a few swallows like I normally do).

I was first off the line, drinking my beer. Usually I am third behind Valerie and Dan Quinn but they weren't competing. I was first to the road and was winning goin down the road. Ryan caught me and we ran together for a bit. He looked back and saw that no one was following us. I was surprised but he was right. There was no one behind us. I settled my pace and Ryan ran away. I cut into the woods but he took the road farther up. As I going by #2 I saw the leaders leaving it. Good I wasn't too far back. Unfortunately, #1 was mishung. There are three dot knolls and it was hung on the western most and not the eastern most as circled. I lost time in the circle. I got there just as Max Ahmed was punching. I passed him and never saw him after that. I was already tired and really hot sweaty by number 1.

#2: I ran there
#3: I ran through the "green" area and except for some low grass it was wide open.

#4, #5, #6: straight
#7: Cut over to trail. At first trail tip, cut across woods to control.
#8: north west'ish to the marsh and along marsh to control.
#9: I went north around the fence.
#10: There were people in my way during the drink. Usually I very fast. But with the people in the way it through me off. Instead of guzzling. I choked, litterally on beer. I had a coughing fit and it took a while before I could drink.
#11 along field
#12: There was an unmapped trail through the field. It would have been the best route although a little longer. instead I ran through the uneven grass and lot time. Andras was right behind me.
#13: Followed the marsh, across the trail, Was north west of the control and followed the hill line.

#14: I should have gone straight. I went straight to the trail then followed it all the way around (too far). Ryan passed me again and beat me to the control.

#15: straight
#16: Straight. I was north of the control and had to adjust.
#17, 18,19: straight.
#20: Drank fast, more normal.
Punched #21 and started running. Unfortunately I forgot my map and had to come back to know where I was going.

#? Got my map and couldn't find the start triangle. I just stood there trying to figure out what was what. I started going to #28 but then realized that wasn't right and stopped again. Finally figured it out, too the trail, across the marsh. I had to wait on the trail as there were hikers on it that weren't in a hurry to move despite me asking if I could pass. The area was narrow so I couldn't just run around. I could see the control from the top of the hill.

#23: I was running to the dot knolls. Turns out they weren't dot knolls but a too short ditch. I was looking for the wrong feature.
#24 straight
#25: across the swampy marsh. Sank in more than I wanted to. over to the trail but I cut of the trail too soon there were some small bends I thought was the bigger bend so I paralleled the trail in the woods.
#26 because I was moving so slowly at this point there was no point to take trails around. I went straight.
#27: down the hill along the marsh , across the stream. Hit the final stream south of the control and had to run along the green to get to the control.
#28: straight
#29: as I coming through the parking lot, Ryan sprinted by me. I couldn't run that speed so just said see ya as he ran by. Drank and finished.
