Orienteering (blue: woodstock) 1:20:56 [3] *** 8.3 km (9:45 / km) +400m 7:51 / km

Felt good. Beautiful day out (sunny, low 60's). Some areas greener (mostly closer to the start/finish) but most of the thorn bushes were easily navigable and not dense enough that you couldn't just run through them.
Course was navigationally easy and most of the controls were orange level. We didn't go into the "sweet spot" with all the boulders and pits. It helped that I made the map so am familiar with area. Climb didn't seem as bad as advertised but my watch said I did about 385m climb.

I lost time at #1 becuase I couldn't find the punch. I found the control but the punch wasn't hung by the control. I was about to run away when someone else came up and showed me where it was.
Control #2 had been stolen and replaced with a different code. They didn't tell me at registration but fortunately Dave Onkst mentioned it to me. I got to #2 saw the wrong code and sat there wondering where else it could be. I lost about 30 seconds until I release this was the replaced control. I told another person who was approaching (unfortunately they had already been there and were coming back a second time).
#3 I went the long way around to avoid the green (some unmapped)
#4, obvious route was to take the road but I didn't want to run the road so the followed the stream around to trail. I coudn't read the detail in this section so just ran to the general circle middle.
#5, I started heading a little too much west and started following the stream. Had to cut back over the hill.
#6 : Straight. Gimme control at trail junction. Running down the trail I didn't see the control, so started wondering if new trails had been built. Turns our the control was hidden in the bushes.
#7: Hesitant on final approach.
#8 Straightish. no problems. Did get slowed up by some green.
#9: down the spur to the controls.
#10: Along stream to first side stream. Up the spur. Another gimmer control right by the trail.
#11 Straight. no problems.
#12 Gimme control. Trees in middle of large clearing.
#13: Gimme control right by edge of power line clearing. I took a slight leftish route.
#14: Gimme control on trail. I drifted left trying to avoid the climb and came out at northern ruin.
Finish: not sure what the fastest route is. I ran across the ball field and took the old road because I thought that was clearer. It wasn't lost time getting back into the clearing extension. Than ran the high ground to the the download area.

All in all, a runners course. I walked much of the steeper up hills but tried to keep moving on the other parts. Good run but probably could have been faster.

Orienteering (mapping) 1:30:00 [1] 1.75 mi (51:26 / mi)
ahr:96 max:123 shoes: VJ Falcons 2021

It was a nice day out so I planned to do some map updates while I was there. Went out and redid the vegetation in the "sweet spot". Thorny bushes have grown up a lot making much of it undesirable now which is unfortunate. At least now the course setters will be able to determine which parts are usable. Most of the small previously mapped clearing are also now gone. Good news is the pine forest is now totally open running with all the lower branch gone.

Orienteering (mapping) 3:00:00 [1] 3.5 mi (51:26 / mi)
shoes: Addidas Ultraboost 20 2020

Mapping at Avalon. Finishing up the area I started yesterday. I got side tracked and started mapping a new area the I had hiked in before but never mapped. Lot of bike trails in the area.
I did finish the area I intended to do also.

Run (trail) 53:40 [3] 5.27 mi (10:11 / mi) +260m 8:50 / mi
ahr:145 max:166 shoes: ultraboost DNA 2021

after mapping went for a run on the trails. There was a lot more climb then I had planned for. It was good training for the billygoat but I was very tired. I wasn't fast as the trail was very curvy in places and not always good footing. Add in the climb and i was downright slow.

Mapping one of the greener areas of Patapsco (south Hilltop road area) where a the thorn bushes have grown and expanded. It is so not fun mapping green areas. The non green areas are updated easily, removing/updating/adding rootstocks or falling debris.
