| first training activity of Alexi's training weekend
Guy was susan and mine trainer. we did the activity where the trainer goes and runs some where says control gives you a minute or so then starts running again. Stops says control and then you have to tell them where you think the two "controls" where. However many meters you are off that is how many points you get. We had to add a part though. we added that if Guy didn't know where we were and susan and i figured it out before him then we got points taken off our scores. that happend a few times so i only endded up with 4 points at the end.

| next thing we did were a few memory races. They were all shuttle races. The first one was you had to run across to the maps, look at a leg, deside which was the rentrent (not spur), memorize it, run back to your blank map, draw the leg on your map. You had to do that for a whole orienteering course.
Then we did one where you ran picked up a map, looked at it while running back to the line you started and then back. During which you had to deside which was the second control lower or higher than the first. Oh and if you were wrong or last you were out.

| Ran a course after lunch. started off running with susan but then she didn't want to run so ended up running with amous. did pretty good only really messed up one control. I'm not totally sure how we messed it up but it was definetly some sort of parralle error. endded up like 2 or 3 conturs below the control. and we over ran one other but not by much.
here are the splits but sadly i didn't right them down right after and my watch got water in it so now it is kinda hard to read. so guessed on a few. 4:36 8:39 1:56 3:47 3;42 1;59 2:19 12:0_ (one i really messed up) 7;22 (one i over ran) 6:2_ ran slowly back to the mess hall from the start/finish as my cool down
| Note | ||
| After we went over my course from the US champs and worked on identifying CAR. Control, attackpoint, route. That was really helpful!!! and we went over how to aim off.
then we did some more map memory but no running this time. We got a map that was marked up in a grid and then a page with small circles of the map and we had to find them. first we had 5 to find but had the page right in front of us. then we had to find one but only had 20 seconds to look at it. then 2 to find with 40 seconds to look at it. and so on.

| signed up for clubs today. signed up for newpaper, ballroom/ latin american dance, enginering and X-country. I'm hoping that X-Country will help me get out running/trainning more. The X-Country coach said that he wanted the long distance peopl to be able to run the loop (about 8 or 9 miles) by the end of the school year. oh yeah so we are having lond distance and short distance. how messed up is that? X-Country is long distance not short or sprints. | ||

| shoes: brooks s257 | ||
| Sadly I had to work at school until about 5:30 because i'm speeking at our ribbon cutting ceremony on thursday. so i didn't have enough time to get to TNT tonight. But my dad and i went for a run a long kelly drive.
felt ok. my splits were not as fast as i would have liked, but i'm still getting over my cold so i'm guessing thats why. first mile- 10:08 second mile- 10:08 third mile- 9:28 short break to wait for dad because he went further- 1:14 from lloyd hall to the exit of the path- 7:48 cool down walk back up to the house- 4:17
Monday Sep 25 | ||

| rowing 1:00:00 [1] | ||
| (sick) shoes: brooks s257 | ||
| ok so we had practise for two hours but i'm only going to count 1 becuase it took us an hour to get both boats in the water and people in them. When we finally did get out there were so many other boats out it was crazy!! you would have thought a reggatta was going on. I was in 4 seat and I had a novice in front of me (ok i'm a novice to but this guy has never ever rowed before) and we only had one coach for two 8s and she doesn't even have a megaphone working. So we were doing ok rowing out but then we turned around and went through the set of bridges and i got a crab because all of a sudden the boat tiped far to my side. so we had to stop for that and then when we started rowing again we didn't row with everyone so we weren't going fast enough and two high school 8s almost run right into us. And one of the coxswains were like cursing off, we couldn't tell if it was at us or his boat though. Oh and then as we were rowing down boat house row we kinda dock by acident at the wrong dock, we got blown into it. Oh and i forgot my seat didn't have any shoes, it only had two pieces of tape. so i had to put my snikers in the loop that the tape made. It worked ok but i could go up the slide all the way.
so I would say it was a very intersting eventful practise, with a lot of yelling going on.

| (sick) shoes: brooks s257 | ||
| went for a run with my dad. I felt ok in the beginning but once we got to Lloyde Hall I was really feeling not that great. I felt slow and my legs hurt. Started out thinking I was going to run 4 miles but then when I told my dad how I was feeling he said iIshould only do 3, I desided to push it though and make it 3 1/2. My mile times were so slow!!!
first mile -10:13 second mile- 10:36 1/2 a mile (from the 2nd mile mark to lloyd hall)- 5:31 rest at lloyd hall for water- 1:22 lloyd hall to the train tracks -8:30 walk up to the house as a cooldown- 4:42 (though i think the whole run should be a cooldown that is how slow i was running)

| orienteering race 1:08:52 [4]*** | ||
| shoes: o-ing shoes | ||
| Well didn't have that great of a run. I used all of the collecting features as my attackpoints. that probably isn't the best thing to do but at lest it worked.
1 i found fine because we used that control the day before 2- I'm a little bad becuase I was going to try pace couting on a bearing but i ran into a control we used the day before first and i couldn't find it on the map but knew which way the power line was from it. so I ran to the power line. and of course as soon as i come into the finish and look at that leg I find where that other control was, the red line conecting 1 and 2 ran right over it. I was on a perfect bearing. oh well. actually the rest of the course goes kind of the same way. I tried working on something wasn't totally sure where I was so when I thought I went to far so I just kept going to the collecting feature and went in again.

| Did the advanced training at DVOA's Hickory Run training weekend. Was a lot of fun and very helpful! The first thing we did was look at my dad's day1 course from the US Champs. then we went out and did a couse that Tom O. set up. that was really helpful. I didn't really learn anything new but i found out what i have to work on. I have to work on aming off and pace counting. oh and so i don't totally forget my pace count for on the road is 35 and in the woods 44. (now will i remember i put it here wenh i forget it probably not.) One thing on that course i was proud of though is my conturing skills. they have gotten a lot better! I think it is from all that time spent at french creak with my dad. | ||

| I also got to train a little bit with Samantha Sager after lunch. That was a lot of fun and very helpful. We went to about 3 controls they used for the faresta. And she told me what she thinks about during each part of a leg. We did one section with aming off and pace counting and for some reason this time it worked! We also talked about JWOC and training.
It was just nice to talk to a top female orienteer who is on the USA team. Thank you Samantha!!
| orienteering race (Night-O) 32:07 [4]*** | ||
| shoes: o-ing shoes | ||
| Did my first intermediate night-o course. It was a lot of fun! I was a little nervouse before i started but after i turned over the map I found out it wasn't going to be as hard as i thought.
it was a lot of chris crossing through camp. the only two i really had trouble on was 5 and 10. I was Extremly close to both of them but for 5 I was on the wrong side of the route stock and actually not really sure I was in the right place because the route stock was covered in fallen branches. and # 10 I was just a little to far down the rentrant. but over all a good race. And I was only 9 seconds behind first place which was the Sager sisters.

| since today is one of the days we get out early (2:50) I went for a run after school with my mom. Went nice and easy down to the trail partly so i stayed with my mom. after we crossed the tracks i picked it up a lot. I didn't quite do full speed because i knew i wouldn't be able to make it back, but i'm guessing maybe around 75%. went to the end of the path and turned around. on the way back to get a little bit of hill training in i ran up this long kinda steep ramp and then down some stairs on the other side. got to our exit from the path just as my mom did (i ran past them to the bridge and ran back) we walked back up to the house as our cool down.
house to turn around (locast point) 7:46 locast point to bridge 6:33 sprint from bridge to exit 1:10 cool down walk back to the house 4:29 I think i did ok. I would really like to be able to run this route in around 17 minutes by the end of 2006.

| walking 40:00 [1] 2.0 mi (20:00 / mi) | ||

| orienteering race (Sprint-O) 18:28 [4]*** 1.9 km (9:43 / km) | ||
| spiked:13/14c shoes: o-ing shoes | ||
| Did my first ever sprint today at Vally Forge! It was a lot of fun!! i only really messed up the first one becuase i didn't relise it was a 1:5 map. Other then that i was fine. granted i did have a bunch of people around me do it so they did show me into many of the controls and there where elephant trails. But i enjoyed it and would totally do another one!!
splits: 2:48 1:21 1:13 0:48 1:00 0:36 0:37 0:35 2:50 1:22 1:49 1:36 0:25 1:28 and I even beat my dad!!!!

| orienteering race (Score-O) 1:11:43 [4]*** | ||
| spiked:18/26c shoes: o-ing shoes | ||
| Did the score-o as well. I did ok in it. i only got one word but i got all the controls on the east side plus three on the west. I think the only way i could have only done better is if i could run faster. I guess i really need to start running more!!!
my dad sadly creamed me on this one (alone with a ton of other people). He got all of them and did it faster then anyone.

| another day out at French Creek. this time we went to all of the red and bluw controls. We did a lot of platform hopping and contour reading. I have now found out that i can't walk/run along the same contour. I keep drifting up or down. But over all it was a good day. I did a lot of map reading (espeshally on the control that my dad and I now nick named the hell control) and got a good work out. How people do what my dad and I did at speed i have no idea!!! the only way i could get places was to take a bearing a go for it and check off things that come before it.
Parts of it should be a 3 and other a 2, so i put a 2. oh and the end 500m should be a 5 because i ran an all out sprint back to the car to see if i could make it back before my watch said 6:15 but sadly I was slow by 13 seconds. hence the 13 seconds added on the end of my time.
Thursday Sep 7 | ||
| Note | ||
| Well although no training went on today it was a big, long and tireing day. It was my first day of high school today and i'm happy to report I SURVIVED IT!!! it was a crazy day with a lot of new information being thrown at me. But it was also fun. but anyway don't expect to much training from me in the next few weeks as i'll be trying to get into a pattern with school. sadly i wish there were more hours in the day!!!!!! | ||

| went out to French Creek East with dad today to walk/streamer some of the controls for the long-o champs. we got the white all done, but i had to make a few changes. Then we tried walking the yellow wait also checking some of my dads controls. the yellow need A LOT of work!!!! sadly i think it is to long and one part the didn't look to bad on the map is really really bad. But i learnt a lot today and i even found a few of my dads controls before he did (i did have the newer map though so that might have been why) really need to work on yellow and maybe talk to a few other people to get some ideas for it. | ||
