stretching warm up/down 10:00 [1]
rowing 1:15:00 [2]
Rowed 2 seat in the 8. I have decided i really don't like rowing port! was a pretty good workout though. it was so hot it made it seam a lot harder.
C • Yeah - that's a lot of exercis... 1
rowing 1:15:00 [2]
rowed in 1 seat in the lloyd hall 8. This was one of the worst rows i have been on in a while. Our coxswan was having us zig-zag all over the river, people wouldn't set up the boat, and ann our coach was not in a good mood so was a little snappy. Still a good workout though.
biking 46:00 [3] 9.75 mi (4:43 / mi)
shoes: brooks s257
cycled the loop. wanted to do it in 45 mins but i got stuck at two lights on the last part of the way home so had to settle with 46. Next time i'll do it!
running 1:09:00 [3] 6.0 mi (11:30 / mi)
shoes: brooks- winter/trail model
TNT. ran with karl and clem for most of it. We ran hills again. I was a little bit slower this week than two weeks ago. I think it was that i haven't gotten as much sleep as before.

Monday Jul 30

stretching warm up/down 15:00 [1]
rowing 1:15:00 [2]
Took a quad and 8 out. I was 1 seat in the quad again. Had an ok row apart for the 8 almost crashing into us twice.
erg -rowing machine 11:00 [3] 2.21 km (4:59 / km)
shoes: brooks s257
Kinda just erging to do something so wasn't really trying to keep any pace up or anything. was kinda just pulling and then did a few power 10s.
rowing 1:15:00 [2]
was out in the lloyd hall quad in that afternoon. This time i was 4 seat. Had two people in the boat who had never rowed before so had to teach them. Then it started raining as we were coming in and then the coaches made us dock on one dock and then back it back out a little bit to dock it on our other dock. It was a crazy row! and i had to do most of the rowing.
biking 10:00 [2] 2.0 mi (4:59 / mi)
shoes: brooks s257
rode to and from lloyd hall. Coming back was interesting in the rain. i had to stand up the whole time so as not to get totally drenched.

Sunday Jul 29

Note
Spent all of today and yesterday packing for scotland and cleaning my room. Wanted to go out with my mom and her friend to walk the loop this morning but had a really bad head ache and so i stayed home.
C • Have Fun! 2

Friday Jul 27

rowing 1:30:00 [2]
Rowed in the middle of the 8. I really hate rowing in the middle of the boat but today wasn't so bad. But it was really hot!
Note
Four of us decided to jump off the dock after our row. It felt sooo good!!!! we swam around for a bit and even tossed a beach ball around a little. That was a bit hard though as we had to tread water the whole time as it was quite deep and there was a little windy. Was a lot of fun though!
biking 10:00 [1] 2.0 mi (4:59 / mi)
shoes: brooks s257
Biked to and from lloyd hall
Note
walked into town to do some school supplies shopping with my sister as we are going to scotland and won't really have time to do it when we get back. Was super hot!

Thursday Jul 26

rowing 1:30:00 [2]
Rowed in bow seat in the quad. It was a wet row as the girl in front of me splashed me with every stroke. Also had to do a lot of steering today.
biking warm up/down 10:00 [1] 2.0 mi (4:59 / mi)
shoes: brooks s257
biked to and from lloyd hall

Wednesday Jul 25

swimming 3:00:00 [1]
Went swimming in the ocean for a little bit. Well we jumped waves for most of the time and then actually got far enough out to swim a little bit.

Then we went swimming at the pool. Did a few laps and a few sit ups on the side of the pool.
walking 1:00:00 [1]
Walked along the board walk for a bit doing some window shopping. super hot out!!!

Tuesday Jul 24

running 25:32 [3] 2.25 mi (11:20 / mi)

Jumping waves in the ocean. Then went swimming in the pool. Did a few laps.
walking 30:00 [1] 2.0 mi (14:59 / mi)
Walked to the board walk. Walked around, and then walked back along the beach.

Sunday Jul 22

orienteering 1:18:00 [3]*** 7.2 km (10:50 / km)
24c shoes: o-ing shoes
ran green at the DVOA local meet. didn't have too many problems other than it being hot and so i didn't run as much as i would have liked. oh and my left cleat has such a big hole in it that it was weird to run in and kinda felt like i wasn't even wearing a shoe. guess it is time to get some new ones.

Alexies training notes- (that i'm doing a bad job of keeping up with)
Start to 1 ? watched others start so knew what direction to run in. Also you could see the tree that it was on from the start just not the control. So followed the path everyone else had bush whacked to the control.

1 to 2- plan was to run along the edge of the field to the parking lot cut up the road and hit the road intersection, then run to the right side of the open land and up to the control. I did just that but I didn?t really tell what the open land was but it was so open that after I got half way in from the road I actually saw the control hanging low on the tree.

2 to 3- plan was to run up to the road and cut up into the woods when the semi-open land got wider, hit the rootstock and then the pit. I did that I think I was a little over from where I planed to be in the woods though.

3 to 4- ran a long the indistinct trail or actually the bush whacked trailed just below it to the control.

4 to 5- came out of 4 a little to far to the left but ran to the semi-open land then to the road. Someone was actually standing at the control when I got there but I slowed down anyway as it looked as if it was a very small cliff that it was on.

5 to 6- decided to run along the edge of the woods, (as I didn?t want to fight through the mountain Loral.) to the corner where there was a trail. Here I made a parallel error I started looking on the hill right after the first trail junction when I should have looked on the hill past the second one. It took me a while to figure that out sadly.

6 to 7- plan was to run down the trail until just before the junction and where the top of the reentrant was, then run down the other side to the control. I did that but slowed down to soon and didn?t go far enough to hit the control at first.

8 to 9- cut up to the main trail right as I got out of the control. Ran along the main trail until the road curved on my left and then slowed down to find the indistinct trail on my right, which I then ran down to the boulder.

9 to 10- dropped down a little on the hill and then countered around. The rootstock was pretty big and easy to see.

10 to 11- ran down to where the field, woods and road meet and then ran along the side of the road to the control. Should have ran faster on this leg.

11 to 12- crossed the road and then ran down the paved trail to just before the second intersection and to the tree.

12 to 13- crossed over the field between the buildings and down a little trail and across the bridge.

13 to 14- went to right around the pond. Just below the other water feature. Then hit the corner of the fence. Ran up to the road. Then ran along a semi bush whacked trail that kinda went to the left and up the little bit of green in the field and then cut into the woods and went straight up from the green to the rootstock. Was an ok route chouse but I didn?t run much. If I went around the edge of the field I would have been able to run more.

14 to 15- ran along the trail passed two trail on my right and then when the trail made a sharp turn to the right I saw the rootstock and ran into the control

15 to 16- plan was to cut up to the trail intersection and then cut in a little to the right from there. I cut up to the trail a little to far to the left so had to run down a little to the intersection and then I cut in and drifted a little to far to the left but I think that was good as I might not have seen the control if I didn?t aim off the depression which I saw was a little bit off to the left of me.

16 to 17- crossed the path, the two dry ditches, the river and the trail. Then ran up the side of the reentrant to the left of the two fence enclosures, over the small saddle (I saw it on the map but didn?t really see it) and then into the control.

17 to 18- plan was to cross over the dry ditch, the top of the two reentrants right above the water and then counter around to the control. I ended up going to high and actually hitting the trail on my counter over. But could see the clearing from the trail so that was good.

18 to 19- went straight down the hill to the platform.

19 to 20- Cut down the hill to the left of the green and hit where the trail cuts right across the side of the hill. Ran along the right side on the spur and then around and down to the bottom of the cliff.

20 to 21- just cut strait down to the road, ran along the road to the control.

21 to 22- 22 was the same control as 13 so ran back the same way I came to go to 14. Around the left side of the building, crossed at the top of the small water fetcher, and then around the left side of the pond to the control.

22 to 23- control 23 was the same as 11. So ran back up the trail cut across the small field and then ran along the side of the parking lot to the crossing. Should have run faster here.

23 to 24- Plan was to run up the trail then head off to the left and hit a trail and take it all the way to the control. Well It started off well I ran up the trail and started cutting over then I?m not sure what happened. I think I might have just been tired and thought I made a parallel error, as when I cut over to the left so many people had run there it made a trail through the high grass and so maybe I just forgot that I was looking for another trail at the corner of where the green forest sticks out into the field. Any way some how I thought I wasn?t far enough to the left (when I was actually already too far) so started cutting through the stilt grass moving slightly to the left and in. This is when I finally noticed all the small hills to my right and figured out that I missed the trail. Got on the trail and then found the control.

24 to finish- ran along the trail out of the control to another trail and then cut up to the road. Took the road all the way to the finish.

Biked to Valley Green with my mom and dad. The first part was hard as we were road biking and i have a mountain bike (that doesn't shift to 3rd gear...grrrr...) But it was a lot of fun!
running 19:30 [3] 2.25 mi (8:39 / mi)
shoes: brooks- winter/trail model
Dad and I went for a short run along Forbiden drive and then back along the trails on the other side. Moved kinda slow on the road but once we got across and on the trail I started moving. Like trail running a lot better!! This was also the first time i had run with my dad since i got back from outward bound, so i think i surprised him a bit on the trail run and how fast I went. Before i couldn't really run faster than a 10 min mile without dying, now i have been running 8ish min miles for my past few runs and not dying to badly.
biking 44:30 [3] 9.25 mi (4:48 / mi)
shoes: brooks- winter/trail model
Dad and I after our run cycled home. Mom started biking home when we went for our run as my sister was home. We went a bit faster as there was more down hill and we both wanted to beat the 50 mins it took us to get out.

Walked to Lloyd hall with my parents for thier dragon boat practice.
running 48:46 [2] 5.0 mi (9:45 / mi)
shoes: Saucony
Really crapy run!!!!
*no modivation
*Too hot
*forgot to streach
*dehydrated (didn't have two nalgine bottles yesterday)
the list could go on and on... so really did not enjoy this run. I went out the speed i ran my last 7 mile run at and i was doing really well!! but then i don't really know what happend but i lost that speed and got really slow. Only ran 5 miles instead of the 6 i wanted to. But i guess the good news is that the speed i was running at before i left (10 min mile) felt super slow and easy. Hopefully next run I'll have some more motivation and be able to keep my speed up, maybe I need to find a running partner.

8:28 - around the speed i ran my PCE at (surprizingly)
9:32 - short water break
10:34 - really started losing it mentaly (and water break)
10:40 - short water break, had no motivation to keep going, wanted to walk
9:31 - saw my parents out on the river and wanted to beat them back to lloyd hall

my coach would have been really upset with me becuase of how big the range is in these splits. I know your supposed to keep them consistant but i really couldn't do it.

361 miles to go!
walking warm up/down 15:00 [1] 1.0 mi (14:59 / mi)
shoes: Saucony
walked home with my parents as a cool down from my crapy run.
stretching warm up/down 10:00 [1]
tried to really stretch out. I think part of my problem was that i didn't really stretch out after my PCE and that is why my legs were hurting more than normal today. Falling asleep in the sun and being wet from canon balling into the pound without stretching = a very bad idea that will come back to haunt you.

Wednesday Jul 4

OUTWARD BOUND- PCE (personal challenge event)

ran a 7 mile trail run at ~ 6:45 in the morning. It was a lot of fun!!! It started and ended on a gravel road with a big trail run in the middle. There was a super big hill called chestnut mountain in the middle. I walked up that but ran the rest of the run. I beat most of the guys that were doing the run which was also cool. after wards we got watermelon which was nice and we did some canon balls into the pound which felt nice. also i was only 8 mins slower than what the instructors have to run the route in.

366 more miles to go.
C • way to go 4

OUTWARD BOUND- DAY 12

we did the ropes course today which was a lot of fun! I was one of the last people to go so i got to take a ton of photos of everybody else going. It didn't look to scary from the ground but once you go up to like the highest circle (~100ft tall) it was VERY SCARY!!! and to get down you had to go on a 75ft tall swing that had a little bit of a free fall when you start out. That was the best part though. It took me a few counts of 3 though before i actually let go and swang. I think the scariest part though was having to walk across a log with out holding on to anything like 75ft in the air. I actually couldn't really do it i got about 3 steps in before i had to hold on to the ropes that were tying me in. But i think this ropes course was one of the best things i have done! I got ride of a lot of fears on it.

in the afternoon we did our service project. We had to clean up part of the trail we hiked the other day so it wasn't so over grown and people could use it again.

Monday Jul 2

Hiking 7:00:00 [3]
shoes: L.L Bean hiking boots
OUTWARD BOUND- DAY 11

second day of final. Hiked about a mile or two along a road to the bottom of piolit mountain. There we stashed our big packs and hiked up the 5080ft mountain with our day packs on. half of us stoped for lunch half way up, the rest of us eat lunch on the top. You couldn't really see anything at the top as we were in a clowd. Then we hiked back down, got our packs and started the walk to base camp. Not sure how far we walked but it took us a while. When i figure out the mileage i'll try to remember to add it here. but yeah so we hiked down the trail made a right, a left, a right (on to a trail actually before the one we were supposed to go on and that was over grown), a left and then looked for the red dot trail after we passed the base camp sign. We were all very happy to see the red dot. then we hiked down to the pond and our camp site, Passing the ropes course we were going to climb on the way.

Sunday Jul 1

Hiking 5:00:00 [3] 5.5 mi (54:33 / mi)

OUTWARD BOUND- DAY 10

first day of our final. I got everybody up and we eat and packed up camp. We got out of camp at a good time and had a great pace going the whole time. It was mostly downhill as well. we actually got to our campsite at lunch time so we desided to have 4 people scout some closeish campsites. We decided to hike up 1/2 a mile to another campsite to get that half mile out of the way for tomorrow. Only thing is it started pouring as soon as we started moving so people weren't to happy about that move. Oh well.

this may have been one of the easiest days. we had a lot of free time as well which we spend most of under our tarps. or rather i spent it under one of the guy tarps as i didn't want to hang out with the two girls.
