Day 6 ? 949 points (dropped)
Start to 1 (9:33) plan was to run around the depression to the trail, cross over the trail and run along the hilltops to the right of the marsh, than cross the next trail and cut the corner to the trail junction from there run to the right of the hill top to the trail cross over that, hit the depression, cross the fence and into the control. I did basically that, had a little trouble coming into the control but not too much.
1 to 2 (2:31) took a bearing and was going to use the depression on the trail and a half way marker and I never saw it but saw the trail. So decided to run to the trail junction and come in from there so I didn?t waste a ton of time in the green looking for the control. Was a good idea I think.
2 to 3 (3:37) again ran on a bearing that crossed a fence, man made object, trail and then down a very shallow reentrant. When it got to the shallow reentrant it didn?t see it and drifted a bit on my bearing so had to look around a little bit for the control.
3 to 4 (3:49) crossed the fence and went in between the two hill and hit the depression, than to the open area and hit the depression to far to the right so had to cut over to the left to the control.
4 to 5 (5:34) not really sure what happened on this leg. I think my map was oriented all the way so ran off a little bit to the right. plan was to hit the open depression and then up the reentrant to the little top and behind that would be the control. I think I did a parallel error and hit the open depression to the right not the left. Had a really hard time relocating!! But eventually hit a trail and a depression and figured it out.
5 to 6 (2:56) plan was to pass three depressions on the right and then get to a really big depressing and go around the right of that one to the control. Did just that.
6 to 7 (3:06) Ran to the trail, left on the trail to where it bends to the left. Cut in and run in between the two lines of hills into the control. Came up on the wrong side of the feature though so had to do a little searching before I actually saw the control but was on the feature.
7 to 8 (3:40) plan was to run to the indistinct trail junction and then run along the indistinct trail through the open area to the trail. Crossover the trail and up the reentrant, pass a knoll on my left, hit a depression and then the control. Did just that.
8 to 9 (3:28) Ran down to the big trail, right along the trial, cut in just after the marsh and made my way to the green area. Here I got a little turned around but quickly figured out that the control was further along than I first thought.
9 to 10 (2:42) Ran to the left of the pond, crossed over the trail and ran along the line of hills top in the green to the control. There was a path through the green appearing from everyone running there.
10 to 11 (2:16) ran along the high point, passed a marsh/pond on my left, passed the hilltop and into the control. Again many people running to the same control as from here to the end many courses have the same controls. Saw my dad at this point as well.
11 to 12 (2:32) cut to the trail, along the trail to the left passed all the rough open on the right and cut in right before the stream crossed the trail. And up to the right hilltop.
12 to 13 (4:18) Took a bearing and ran on it through the rough open. Had to stop and tie my shoe at one point. Ran almost right though the small marsh and saw a ton of people at a control where I thought mine was. Ran there and it wasn?t mine, turned around and mine was a few feet back.
13 to 14 (1:11) Actually saw where my dad went and knew he had the same controls as me from now on. Checked my map to make sure he was right and then headed up the hill and into the control. Didn?t really think on this control, was looking more at the next one.
14 to 15 (13:04) I had a great plan for this leg! Not so great execution. Plan was to cross over the wall go up one of the cleared paths through the green to the trail. Along the trail until the first clearing on my left go up that take the right split, cross the path and keep going to the vegetation boundary. Hit the tip of the marsh on my right, than the boulder and around the light green to the control. Well I got all the way to the vegetation boundary fine. Thought I had hit the marsh instead of the edge of it so went a bit left to get to the edge never saw the boulder and was so confused as to where I messed up so had to try and relocate. I ended up partly relocating from the path but didn?t know where on the path I was So went to the vegetation boundary and was going to cut in just after the open but didn?t really see it. So by that time I think I was back where I came out than some how I found it. Found a boulder and went in from there. I have no idea why I ended up going all over the place here.
15 to 16 (3:20) Was really annoyed from my mistake on the last control so ended up running the wrong way around the hill to the next control. Took a bearing though and ran to the trail which I found before. Then from there I saw the hill and finally found the control.
16 to 17 (2:30) no real plan here. I saw the Go control before I went out so had a general Idea where it was and there were a tone of other people running to it. So crossed over the stream, hit the path and into the control.
17 to finish (0:23) sprint into the finish!

Over all I thought I was having a great run! Just some minor mistakes up until the last 3 controls where I blew it. I have no idea how I could have stopped from blowing the end as I thought I was concentrating hard. Maybe it was just my brain was died from 6 days and it was the end I?m not sure.

Well i had a great time at the Scottish 6day!!!! it was an amazing experience and it definitely made me want to train much harder this year so i can do better in two years time! Also it was nice to run in different terrain and to find out what other juniors are doing for training. Over all the whole comparison between where i am and other juniors from around the world was very helpful to me.

Day 5 ? 1124 points
Start to 1 (5:16) My plan was to run along the trail past the two green parts and then cut across the clearing and into the control. I ended up just to the left of the control and went a little to far but soon realize that the fence was getting too close so turned around and actually saw the control. Lost maybe a min here.
1 to 2 (10:00) went to the gate so I could get over the fence. Then ran to the left of the marshes, and right of the hill. Then through the marsh to the hilltop, through more marsh and up to another hill top where I hit the last stone marker. Went to the right of the earth bank/small cliff. Hit the trail and ran down that until I saw the control that was just off the corner. Hardly ran at all on this leg. The heather was up to my knees and really hard to run in, it was faster walking some points (less tripping)
2 to 3 (3:38) Ran along the top of all the cliffs and cut down after the cliffs past the marsh. At first though I got confused as to why I didn?t see it on top as I didn?t pay enough attention to the fact that it was a few contour lines down. Figured that out fast and then found it. Lost maybe 30 seconds here.
3 to 4 (4:20) This leg took forever but I have no idea how I could have done it faster. Plan was to cut up the cliffs to the knoll and then cross over to the right side of the hill. Well the cliffs were a bit to big to get up where I wanted to so ended up going a bit to the left. Found the control fine it was just slow with the cliffs and the tall heather.
4 to 5 (8:17) Took a bearing and ran on that. Made sure I didn?t climb or drop to much as I ran around the side of the two hills. Then got to the stone markers again and dropped down to the marsh, made sure I was going along side of the hill on my left and then hit the big hill on the right and went up and around the back of it to the control.
5 to 6 (11:02) A REALLY BAD PLAN!!!! My plan was to run back to the gate near the one I crossed earlier, run down that path until I got past most of the green and then cut across the hill side to the control. Really bad Idea!!! Should have ran back to the start and along the fence to the control that way. I think I decided not to do that because before I took the long route when I should have cut, well this was not the time to cut!! I drifted pretty far to the right and it took me a while to relocate. Once I did it still took me a bit to get to the control. Lost a lot of time here!!!!
6 to 7 (7:45) Much better plan here. Took the indistinct trail (more like an elephant trail from everyone running on it) All the way to the end of the green and then cut straight down and into the control. Some excitement on this leg; some Swede fell and I think broke his hip on the hill near the trail so there were a lot of people there and someone making sure the runner like me coming by were ok.
7 to 8 (4:26) plan was to run to the right of the dark green patch hit the fence run to the fence junction and then across the clearing to the control. Was a little further to the right than planed but running along the fence was very easy so that was good. And the clearing was more like a mud puddle from everyone running though it.
8 to 9 (3:04) Ran along the elephant trail through the green to the fence crossing. Ran to the rock wall but was to far to the left so had to stop and look at the map for a second then fixed it and ran along the fence to the go control.
9 to finish (0:14) sprint!

I thought I did much worse than I actually did. Only one major mistake and really should not have happened other than that a pretty clean run.

Day 4 ? 1028 points
Start to 1 (1:05) I actually saw two of my competitors go to number one as you could see the back side of the hill from the start. They would pop down and then pop back into view stand there for a second and then run off to the next control. So I had an idea of where it was. Anyway, went up the trail to the bend and then over one little hill and into my control.
1 to 2 (1:37) Crossed the edge of the clearing over the trail, saw the knoll and the clearing and so headed to the right to my control.
2 to 3 (3:33) ran to the big trail and hit it to the left of the trail junction right at the knoll. Ran on my bearing though the woods. Ran to the right of the three small hills and saw the depression on the left then into my control.
3 to 4 (1:18) took a bearing and there was actually a track from other people so ran along that and made sure to stay on the edge between the flat and slightly hilly ground.
4 to 5 (5:37) took a bearing and hit the main trail right at the edge of the field. From there I drifted a bit to the left and hit the hill top. Started going right but there looked as if there was a trail so I started to run down it thinking it was the one to the right of my control. Turned out it was just a path from other people coming from a control on the hill opposite mine however I saw mine from there so just ran to it and look at which way I had to come out of it. Probably lost about 30+ seconds here.
5 to 6 (1:59) hit the trail ran up part of the reentrant and then cut over to the one that mine was on.
6 to 7 (4:58) At first my plan was to run through the field along the hill tops. When I crossed the trail and saw the field and realized it was going to be a fight and a slow one, I decided to change my plan. My eyes went straight to the trails and how I could run them around. That is what I did with cutting the corner a bit on the last turn and not actually running on the tail there. However I was stupid and should have just ran along the vegetation boundary. I have no idea why I didn?t think of that. Probably lost about a min here.
7 to 8 (4:17) cut on to the trail and ran that to the trail junction. There I took a bearing and ended up going to the left of the three knolls and up hitting it perfectly. Didn?t run fast enough here.
8 to 9 (1:35) Ran to the clearing and along that then when it got all flat I cut in to my control.
9 to 10 (3:10) worked my way around the hill. However was too high up so ended up going to far. Started to see the field was looking so close so turned around and actually saw the spur. Lost probably a min here standing around before I actually turned around enough to see it and not running fast enough
10 to 11 (1:14) up and over the hill into the control. There was a path as a few courses had this leg.
11 to 12 (4:58) Plan was to run down to the clearing with the trail, and along there until the hills, run past 8 and along to 12. I decided to do that so that I didn?t have to go down and then up again. Everything was going fine but I didn?t run far enough so it took me forever to find it. There seamed like a lot more hills on that stretch than the map said. Lost about a min or two.
12 to 13 (2:17) kept running along the hills to the green. Once I got to the green. Went around to the left of the big depression partly because there was a trial from everyone else there.
13 to 14 (6:01) Decided to run the trails all the way. BAD idea! It really wasn?t faster, if anything It was slower. I should have just run straight through all the heather in the whit woods. Coming into the control was fine. Decided to attack from the hill top in the strip of clearing and found it fine.
14 to 15 (1:20) ran on a bearing for this one and checked off all the vegetation changes. There was also a big elephant path going to it.
15 to 16 (1:33) Decided to go out to the trail and up to the bend and into the reentrant. The green was quite tallish and I bit prickly so didn?t want to waste time fighting it.
16 to 17 (2:24) plan was to run to the trail junction which I could see from the control and then to the left of the small hill, over the saddle and into the control. I ended up drifting to the right though and ending up on the small hill to the left of the bigger one. Relocated fast and found my control.
17 to 18 (4:04) plan was to hit the fence right at the end and then go to the left of the light green and a long the back for a bit cross over the trail and into the control. I drifted to the left but didn?t notice it right away because I thought I hit the end of the fence as it was down but turns out I didn?t. Some how got to far to the left and hit the beginning of the trail and took that all the way to the hill and into the control.
18 to 19 (1:06) ran to where the two fences met. There was an elephant trail and you could hear all the people at the finish.

Day 3- 1015 (dropped)
Start to 1 (6:08) So plan was to take the first one slow so I could get used to the map and not make a big mistake on the first control. Plan was to run to the bend in the road then follow the hill down past the marsh and to the trail/clearing junction. From there aim in and go just past the two small hills into the control. Well coming off the hill I drifted a bit to the right but knew that so when I hit the trail headed down it to the left to find the trail clearing junction. Sadly however there were many not mapped so I walked to where it started going down hill and where it was less flat. Found the control but could have found it faster. 2 min error.
1 to 2 (2:30) took a Bering and ran on it. Aim was to hit the depression right before the boulder but was a bit to the left of it as it was easier running. Found the two boulders on the left first and then my control.
2 to 3 (7:04) plan was to run along the edge of the field, then up to the water stop, cut up to the field line, take that all the way to the end and then around the back of the hill there to the control. Did just that but not as fast as I could have. Need to learn to run harder on these legs.
3 to 4 (5:36) well my plan was to run the trail to the field bit, run along the side of the marsh, between the big marsh and the small one up to the control. Wasn?t sure at the time what went wrong but looking now I lost the trail as it turned to the right and I didn?t I ended up on the big trail but hit perfectly to relocate fast ran down the big trail a bit then along the side of the two hills into the control. Probably lost about 1 or 2 minuets here.
4 to 5 (2:40) ran down to the marsh and took the trail all the way around it over the rock wall, then came to the small clearing crossed over that to the trail, and then cut in just past the hill and up to the control.
5 to 6 (6:24) Didn?t have a great plan on this leg which got me into a bit of trouble. Plan to start off with was to run on a bearing which would take me past a bit of light green and a creek, then to power lines and across a field then over an earth bank ditch thing (not sure real name) then up to the control. That would have been a good plan if it was a real field but it was more like a marsh. Because of that I drifted to the right to get into the woods and easier running sooner. From there I desided to climb up a little bit and then over. However ended up droping back down to run along the earth bank and it was easier. But I wasn?t totally sure where along there I was and I actually almost over ran the control. Probably lost about 2 mins because I didn?t have a tight enough plan for the last part of the leg.
6 to 7 (4:56) crossed the road to the trail that runs along it. Ran to just above the trail road junction. Started up the hill, had my map a little bit off so started heading right a bit but caught that at the trail so corrected but almost went to the hill above mine because of it. Lost maybe 1 min from not running fast enough and my little mess up at the end.
7 to 8 (5:39) Ran on a bearing. Above the hill and the top of the reentrant dropped down a little too far to correct that but not much. Hit the trail just a little left of my control. Looks like easy running but it wasn?t! kept tripping over fallen logs that I didn?t see from the moss.
8 to 9 (4:23) did a 180 out of the control. Well kinda of I wanted to get away from the control so I didn?t give it away to the girl coming up behind me and so I stepped back out on to the trail to look at my map and then I realized that actually I wanted to go 180 degrees the other way. So turned around crossed over the rock wall had to cross it further up than I wanted to. (drew it wrong on the map at first I ran on the right part of the red line here) Then ran up to the trail hit the trail junction which was great as I actually didn?t even think about running there so I could run along the trail and then into the control. So probably lost about half a minute from my 180 and crossing the stone wall.
9 to 10 (4:13) Ran straight down to the big trail from the control, as there was a track there from every one else so it was easy running. Ran along the big trail for a bit then cut down to the power lines and around the right side of the marsh. Slowed down a bit after that as my plan was to follow the stream but couldn?t see it very well. However once I got to the finished I realized that I should have ran fast to the stream as I would have hit it no matter what way I was going.
10 to 11 (3:37) another track to the trail from other runners. Hit the trail junction. Then there was another track across all the creeks through this part. Took it as it was thick and easy running and knew that if I drifted it was to the right so I had to go left. Once past the green hit the hill went over it and along into my control.
11 to 12 (1:24) down to the stone wall and then along the muddy track that everyone else ran to the GO control. Heard mom and dad yelling go Alison so tried picking it up as much as possible.
12 to 13 (0:22) as fast as I could into the finish. Was quite muddy!

I was about 18 mins behind the winner again today. Probably could have made up 8 or 9 mines but that is about it. These girls are really fast! And I guess used to this terrain. I think I need to work on my compass skills as when I took bearings that was when I drifted.

Day 2 ? 1041 points
Start to 1 (6:17) Started out fine. Plan was to run to the fieldy area, hit the end of the creak, and up and around the green bit to the knoll. Well I got lost trying to find the fieldy area. Found out when I finished that I was actually going the right way had I just gone a bit further. Probably lost about 2 or 3 mins on this control.
1 to 2 (3:00) Cut through the semi green area, cross through the field marsh area. Hopped over the rock wall and then was lead into the control by someone else on my course.
2 to 3 (2:39) Straight across the field. Made sure I hit the reentrant and was running along the hill side. Also saw where two people on my course went. Realized that they were both drifting a bit and made sure not to follow them.
3 to 4 (9:37) Saw the stile that I had to go over from the control. Went over it, had to stop once I got over to check where I was going. That was a good thing as I almost went off 90 degrees the wrong way. Crossed the heather covered field, hit the very small cliff over the marsh (although the whole field was a marsh) and up the hill. Once at the top of the hill saw the fence that I had to cross. Once I got closer saw the small enclosure that I used to cut down into the woods and down to the river. Hit the end of the marsh and the wet ditch, which was more like a creek today. Up to the hill and around to the control.
4 to 5 (8:15) Ran up to the water stop which was at a trail junction. Started crossing the field trying to run parallel to the deer fence. Crossed the small creak then the marsh went to the left of the rocky ground and small cliff to then cross another smaller fence. Kept crossing the field drifted a bit to the right so cut into the forest to soon. Had to then cross along the hillside, hit the rocky ground so had some idea where I was but as I got further along wasn?t totally sure. Finally saw the boulder before mine and then stumbled on my control thank goodness. Maybe lost a half a min or a little more.
5 to 6 (15:27) bombed this control. Plan was to run up the reentrant then the spur, hit the side of the clearing, aim off the corner, down the hill, hit the end of the marsh, over the hill, hit the cliffs and clearings and down into the control. The plan was going well until just after the clearing. Then started drifting to the right and then I?m not sure what happened but some how I drifted far to the left and was almost half way to number 8. finally hit the edge of the green and relocated. Turned around and plan was to run hard and try and check off the cliffs but mostly aimed for the clearing behind the control and made sure to stay below the control so I knew to turn left once I got there. Once I got close enough to the control though someone on my course came out of it so I actually didn?t have to reattack it. Probably lost at least 5 maybe 6 mins on this control.
6 to 7 (0:45) ran straight out of the reentrant, around the hill to the two boulders and then by that time the girl who showed me into the last control was standing at 7 so just ran straight to her. Could see the control number from quite far away which helped so that I didn?t just follow her to the wrong control.
7 to 8 (11:04) another bad control. Took this leg slow as when I was above this area before when I messed up on 6 I knew it was hard to navigate. Tried to count the cliffs and spurs but the ground was so covered that it was actually very hard to tell. Then it got really dark in the green apart. And this was my mistake I took most of this leg slow when I should have plowed through the dark bit because I knew my control was on the other side of it instead of slowing down. Finally we found it (there were 4 of us on the same course by this time) line on the map should be a little more wavy than it is but wasn?t totally sure where I was up and where I was down so drew it kinda in between where I ran. Probably lost about 3 to 4 mins on this control from not running it.
8 to 9 (2:38) nice easy control after the crap ones we had earlier. Around the hill hit the first marsh up along the hill behind it. And then actually hit the creak behind our marsh but it had turned into a marsh from all the rain. So stopped looked around and then when I turned to the left I saw my control on the next marsh over.
9 to 10 (3:48) ran pretty much hard straight to the fence. Crossed over the fence saw the water stop just off to the right and crossed over the next fence at the fence junction. Then straight down the hill to the river. Was glad there was three of us as we had to help each other across as the river was quite strong. Could see the control by then, so up the hill a bit and into the control.
10 to 11 (3:59) there was a path carved out along the side of the hill to the bridge crossing. Crossed the bridge through the stone wall and along the small path then left at the big path to the bridge crossed the big bridge to the GO control. Could have run a bit faster in this part. Maybe lost about 30 or so seconds.
11 to finish (0:49) hard race into the finish with chloe. Was only a few seconds behind her, was really muddy coming down the hill.

Not that great of a course. Didn?t feel as confident with my navigation as I did yesterday. Was 18 mins behind chloe (not sure the winner) probably lost about 12 -14 mins today. Which would make sense as I was 4 mins behind chole yesterday with neither of us making that big of a mistake. Hopefully a better run tomorrow.

Day 1 scan of map http://i125.photobucket.com/albums/p56/orientaly31...
(not sure how to do it so that it isn't that big long link but actually says like scan of map or something like other people do.)

OK so sorry this is so long but people did say just post the long notes:

Day 1 -1138 points
Start to 1 (3:17) Cut the corner up to the other trail. Crossed over the trail and followed the wet reentrant up the hill. Hit the middle of the marsh. Went around the left side and up to my control.
1 to 2 (5:04) ran over the rocky ground to the mandatory crossing point. Then headed up the hill along the vegetation boundary. Was relatively steep so ended up walking most of it which gave me a chance to look at the rest of my course. Checked off the cliffs on my right though on the way up and made sure when I hit the man made rock feature to be careful not to go too far. However took two more steps and I could see it behind the little cliff.
2 to 3 (2:06) Ran right along the edge of the marsh and the woods (more in the marsh) Once I got about half way I could actually see the control. Was sort of hard to see the two creeks in all the moss and grass, so relied more on just running until I hit a stream that was a little bigger and went all the way into the marshy field.
3 to 4 (3:09) Ran right along the river until right before the control. When the river started going to the left around the hill I cut up and over the hill. Almost went to the control just below the top of the hill then looked at the map again and realized that mine was further down the hill.
4 to 5 (2:30) made a parallel error here. Started running along the side of the hill I was already on instead of crossing the marsh and around the other side of the other hill. Realized this relatively quickly and cut over and found the control. I probably lost about a minute or so on this control.
5 to 6 (4:59) Crossed over the reentrant and then down the hill along a path that was dug out by everyone running to the mandatory crossing. Went up and over the deer fence. Then headed off to the right, crossed over three trails and hit the marsh and hill in the middle. Ran down along the hill to the control.
6 to 7 (3:01) Crossed over the marsh and ran along the woods. The clearings were semi hard to see. Ran on the right side of the hill. Hit a little bit to the right of the control so had to run up the reentrant a little bit.
7 to 8 (1:57) Ran right along the trail to the right of the top of the hill. When that dead ended I just kept running to the highest point after that and there was the control. Could have run a bit faster here.
8 to 9 (6:22) Cut straight to the bit trail and crossed through the mandatory crossing. Then down the big hill to the river. Was very steep, so took it pretty slowly. Crossed the river and then headed up the hill to the trail, aiming for the trail junction. There were a few paths carved out on the hill side so picked the one that was closest to where I was going to head and where I thought the junction was and took it. Turned out I was right and it lead me right to the water stop at the junction. Grabbed some water and then headed down the small trail to the hill.
9 to 10 (2:58) Started out heading around the hill but should have gone straight up and a long. May have lost about 30+ seconds here.
10 to 11 (4:00) plan was to run down the left of the hill and along the creek to the trail, across the field/marsh. And then down the wet ditch to the control.
11 to 12 (3:36) Down a path carved out to the first mandatory crossing. Along the trail to the second. Once past the second crossing ran up the trail to the junction, around the right of the small pond to the very shallow reentrant.
12 to 13 (3:56) crossed back to the trail and along to the last mandatory crossing. Ran right along the top of the hill cutting down a little bit. Made sure to stay focused as there were so many people around me to mess me up. Hit the stream and went down that until I saw the cliff with my control. Could have run faster for the first part on the trail.
13 to 14 (0:44) crossed over three cliffs to my control. So many people were coming from all over to my control.
14 to 15 (0:48) You could see the finish going to 13, also dad and I went to the finish before we headed off to the start so I knew exactly where the GO control was it was getting there that was the question. Getting down off the cliff was a challenge. Ended up falling in some bracken though, but felt like I was moving pretty fast.
15 to finish (0:23) Fast sprint into the finish. Passed quite a few people coming in which felt nice.

Over all I think I had a great first day. Managed to ignore almost everyone out in the woods which was good. Felt like I had great contact with the map and made only about two small mistakes. Could have run a bit faster in places though. Could have maybe made up about 3 or so mins, but I?m not going to sweat about it as it was a good start to my first multi day international competition.
