| Ran my first Brown course today. It was fun! Hard but fun. I had a lot more problems than I thought I would. The map was a 1:5 and not a 1:10 so that messed me up a lot. And I knew going out the map was bigger than I was used to so made sure that I wouldn't run to far. So didn't over run anything (if anything didn't run far enough) I think my biggest problem was I wasn't used to the contours on a 1:5 map, so I was thinking every thing was a lot flatter than it really was. Because of that I made a lot of poor rout chouses. One control that should have taken me about 50 seconds to get to from the last took 3:25 mins. I ran and thought, "ok it is going to be in a depression on my left as I run along this spur" yeah well it was in the depression all right. It was down a relatively steep hill in a depression. I found one of the orange controls before I found my own. Then I fell and slid on my butt down the hill into the depression. NOT a fun control!! Another one that was bad was from 12 to 13. Because I wasn't used to the contours I thought the bank along the stream wouldn't be to steep. Well I thought wrong it was SUPER steep. I went down and up, down and up, along and down and up again before I got to the control. Not a good route chouses at all!!! Other than those two big mistakes I think I did ok for my first brown. I can't wait till next year were I get to start running them (and green) all the time.
splits: #1- 2:45 (no problems) #2- 2:10 (again no problems) #3- 3:01 (was a little to far to the right) #4- 3:53 (didn't go far enough before i started looking for it) #5- 2:22 (no real problem) #6- 2:56 (found the green control before mine) #7- 3:25 (the first bad control i talked about before) #8- 3:52 (went back to 5 because i was to far to the right and then went from there. don't think the control was on the right place but was close enough. maybe it was because it was the only place to hang it) #9- 2:43 (was hidden so didn't see it right away) #10- 1:59 (no problems) #11- 4:49 ( had no problem getting to about 50m from the control it was just hidden so well i was looking around there for about a minute before i actually found it) #12- 2:26 (another one i didn't see right away) #13- 6:35 (my really bad route chouse) finish- 1:45 (should have run a bit faster but oh well)

| running 48:36 [2] 4.5 mi (10:48 / mi) | ||
| shoes: brooks s257 | ||
| got up at like 5:30 to go running with my dad. it was really weird to go running before the sun was up. Philly is so different before eveyone is awake. We ran down the parkway and you could hear birds. I had no idea birds woke up before the sun came up. And there were no cars on the roads i have never seen that little traffic other than when it snows. It was a really peacfull run, and i can now see why my dad likes to get up so early to run. it was funny my dad runs in the morning a lot so there is the group of people he calls "the Regulars" and i thought that all "the Regulars" were like runners like him or even more hard core runners. however one of "the Regulars" i found out today is an old man who my dad says walks about 4 or 5 miles every morning. I thought that was cool. Maybe some day i'll be able to call myself a "regular" however it isn't going to be happening to fast.
10.32 - home to lloyd hall (the parkway way) 10.11- 1 mile marker 5.11- 1 1/4 mile marker back to the 1 mile marker 10.12- 1mm to lloyd hall 10.01- lloyd hall to home 1.55- last two blocks home. time to and from lloyd hall are getting fater that is cool.
