Running 21:21 [4] 3.5 mi (6:06 / mi) +50m 5:50 / mi
shoes: Asics Gel-Nimbus 10

A fast threshold run around Durham, with a warm up and warm down. Was very cold outside, but felt quite good, and managed to maintain a decent speed going uphill back to college.

Gym 1:00:00 [3]
shoes: Asics Gel-Nimbus 10

Quite an easy gym session, as it was the first session of the year. Spent 10min cycling as a warm up, then 10min rowing; followed by various short exercises. Finished with a 1km warm down

Running 48:17 [1]

Steady run on the riverside. Legs felt a little tired after yesterdays long run, so it was almost like a recovery run.

A fairly hard circuits session today, with about 40-50 exercises, all 45 sec long with a 15 sec recovery, and a 3min rest half way. Jogged there and back, which took about 15 min there and 20 min back (uphill).

Orienteering race (Holyrood Park) 1:06:07 [5] **** 7.9 km (8:22 / km) +450m 6:31 / km
27c shoes: Inov 8 Roclite 315

I was looking forward to this race after yesterdays event, and I once again had a reasonably good run. First couple of controls were fairly straight forward, followed by a tricky long route choice leg to control number 3. I decided to go around the valley, which looking back in hindsight might not have been the quickest route, as I was too far off the line. I made a mistake going to 4, where I ended up to high on the path, and had to go down to the control. After that, I made one more route choice mistake to 18, going down the wrong path; but overall it was my running (especially on the hills) that let me down. Overall, I was reasonably pleased with my performance, finishing 24/68, 17min 38sec behind Murray Strain. I particularly enjoyed the butterfly loop in the middle, but think it might have been even harder, if it was lower down in the gorse.
