Barebones Day 3 Long

The forest was even more open than the previous days with the same subtle contours and soft ground. Legs felt heavy from the previous 3 races. Messed up the long leg, #4, despite thinking I had it dialed in until there was no control where I expected it. My other mistake was on the second to last control (is there a pattern here?), #15. I thought I could see the reentrant leading into the control, but I messed up. I bailed out to the start area, came back, and found it.

Barebones Day 2 middle distance
Messed up the second control. My approach to the control was off, because I wasn't seeing the checking features that I was counting on. Finally figured our where I was from the field west of the control. This was nothing compared to the problems I had on control 6. I was aiming for the longish depression SE of the control, but I must have mistook something else for the feature because I missed. I wasn't seeing anything close in my wandering around so I bailed. Unfortunately, I bailed from 5 (even though I was near 6) trying to go SSE to the green. When I thought I had gone far enough and still didn't see green I realized my problem. Luckily, I had basically retraced some of my route back to 5 (I thought it looked familiar). When I redid the leg I found the correct attackpoint and found my control. The rest of the course was clean.

Barebones Day 2 Sprint

Finally had a decent run, although I can't say that I was totally on the map 100% of the time. Adrian gave us a fiendish route choice problem for our control #1. I went right which worked okay for me, although the formline hills leading into the control were very vague. On #3 I didn't do the route that I wanted, but the control was on a trail, so I didn't loose too much time. On #7, I went through the first patch of green intending to go near the start, but I didn't see any transition from green to white back to green, so I went too far. I figured I was near the swamp, so I veered in that direction and stumbled onto my control. Oops, but I'll take it!

Day 1 of Barebones
Had a decent race going until the second to last control which I ran past. Came out on the trail beyond it. At first thought it was the trail to the left of the control, but was able to quickly determine that it wasn't. The terrain had subtle contour features with some brushiness (not lots) and some downfall. The brush was enough to make it difficult at times to read the contours.
