Cross Country Skiing (Skate) 1:06:00 [5]
A standard ski-O course at Royal Gorge with just 6 controls. They had put in a connector trail between to main ones near the last control. Unfortunately, they put it in the wrong place, so instead of turning right to hit the control, you had to turn left. I lost a few minutes floating around looking for it. I was going to skip the control, assuming it wasn't there, then someone told me where it was. I was going to fix the problem (after discussing it with the meet officials), but some people thought it was unfair and that the same shitty problem should be there for everyone. I think that since it was already unfair, why not remove a source of frustration for 3/4s of the other participants?

I lost most of my time on the 3rd control. I got on the wrong trail, then found myself following powerlines, which wasn't supposed to happen. I finally got it figured out and backtracked a little to an appropriate junction and went at it on the inferior right route choice.

Marie-Cat passed me at the 4th control, so I tried an alternate route choice to the 5th control. I thought that I would save at least 2 contours worth of climb (80 feet), but the map was off, so I didn't save much at all.
Cross Country Skiing (Skate) 55:00 [1]
Did some easy skiing roughly following my race course. I wanted to see the Wilderness Lodge where Paula and I had our honeymoon. It had burned down some years back, and they replaced it with a much smaller Wilderness Cafe. A little disappointing, but I did recognize the trails some.
Running 15:00 [1]
shoes: Brooks Addiction 6, sz 9.5
Ran with Annie on the road in front of the hotel. Could go very far because at one end of the road there was private property and at the other a highway. Oh well.

Tuesday Jan 30

Cross Country Skiing (Skate) 2:10:00 [5]
Score-O at Royal Gorge. There were some tremendous uphills on this course! Did a face plant when I hit some slush on a downhill. Towards the end I thought I was going to make it in time, but there were a lot of uphill sections between me and the finish. At one point, I had to take my skis off to cross the road. Then there was a rocky section shortly thereafter, where I didn't want to take my skis off yet again. I just carefully picked my way throught the crap.
