| 3x to the top of Bald Hill. Haven't done these in a while. First time running this year with no jacket. Road still muddy. Starting to dry out in places. Saw a group of people pushing baby strollers through the mud to the top of the hill. Also, saw one of the fast OSU girls going up the hill. |

| This was a good day for birds. Saw my first evening grosbeak since moving to Oregon. It was one of my favorite birds when I grew up in Oregon. A good looking male and female. Then I saw a violet green swallow who was interested in my bird house. First time I have ever seen one of those. He was sitting in the sun which made its colors very vivid. When I saw the grosbeaks and swallows I yelled for Paula, "Come here quick!" She was able to see them too and liked them. |

I'm reading a book on how people make decisions, Sources of Power: How People Make Decisions by Gary Klein. Of course as I read, I think of many orienteering examples that apply to the material presented. Then the author used his own orienteering example. Cool! He used a 180 mistake as an example of snap-back. After doing a 180, in your mind you think you are going in the right direction, so you explain away small discrepancies that don't match. Finally, the evidence gets so bad, that you must conclude that you have done something wrong. |

| Ran with Annie at Bald Hill. Finally identified the new mystery birds eating my bug suet. Rough winged swallows. They were difficult because I never saw them soaring like a normal swallow. I only saw them feeding.
Got a new camera lens yesterday for our big trip. The guy I bought it from apparently ordered it online before a big trip to Australia. It came 2 days before the trip, but was not working. Disaster! So he went downtown and bought another one. When he got back he returned the broken one and got a new one. So then he had two, one for him and eventually one for me. |

| Commute to work and lunch. Not able to read because of the light drizzle, so I got caught up on my NPR Science Friday podcasts. Heard the chain saws this morning. The power company is hacking at my trees. I hope they don't butcher them too much. |

| Ran to Bald Hill and met up with Paula and Annie. Missed the super hard rains. Set up the camera to take some pictures of birds. Soon as I did that, no birds. They disappeared. Later we saw a hawk sitting in our tree. Picture wrecker. |
